Transmigrated to the ’70s: The Wild Days of the Village Beauty Chapter 29

Chapter 29: Zero-Cost Shopping

At 2 a.m., Lin Qingmei woke up from her sleep.

Thinking about what she was about to do, she instantly lost all sleepiness. She splashed her face with cold water and went straight downstairs. The hotel, noisy during the day, was now completely quiet. The hallway was deserted.

Using her mental power to scout ahead, Lin Qingmei avoided all hotel staff and left without alerting anyone.

Not long after, she arrived at Victoria Harbour, the central area of Hong Kong City, where most foreigners lived. Even the Governor’s residence was nearby. These foreigners had occupied her country’s land for so many years—it was time to collect some interest.

Lin Qingmei had always aimed big. There were many villas here, and she went straight for the largest one. It happened to be occupied by a foreign couple.

Using her wood-type power, she sent herself up to the third-floor balcony. There was a locked door there.

With a twist of her psychic strength, the lock was shattered, and the previously locked door opened with just a push.

To avoid waking the sleeping villa owners, Lin Qingmei used a sedative to put them to sleep. In her past life, she was a graduate student in pharmacology, and she had plenty of sedatives stored in her space.

The villa owner was clearly wealthy—she found a large box of jewelry on the dressing table. Lin Qingmei didn’t lack such things, but she wasn’t picky. If nothing else, they could just collect dust in her space.

Following the rule of “a thief leaves nothing behind,” she also cleaned out the clothes and bags from the wardrobe.

In the study, she took the calligraphy, books, and even emptied the safe.

She didn’t even spare the sofa, bookshelves, desk, chairs, kitchen food, or utensils.

After finishing one house, she moved to the next. In just one night, she had swept through all the foreign-owned villas in Victoria Harbour.

Around 3 a.m., she arrived at the Governor’s Mansion.

Standing outside, Lin Qingmei observed for a moment and saw many patrolling guards. But she wasn’t worried. Relying on her strong mental power, she stealthily infiltrated the building.

The mansion’s layout was complicated, but Lin Qingmei proceeded carefully. First, she located the vault filled with gold bars and rare gems. Her eyes lit up with excitement as she unhesitatingly stashed them into her space.

Next, she went to the Governor’s office, which held many confidential documents. Thinking they might be useful later, she took those too.

However, just as she was about to leave, she accidentally triggered a hidden mechanism. Alarms instantly blared. Lin Qingmei was startled but quickly calmed down. She used her wood-type power to generate vines that temporarily blocked the guards, then made a swift escape.

Escaping the Governor’s Mansion wasn’t easy. When she finally made it out, Lin Qingmei let out a sigh of relief. Dawn was approaching. With her haul secured, she quietly returned to the hotel, mentally noting that next time she had to study the layout more carefully before making a move.

After sunrise, police swarmed Victoria Harbour. Over a dozen villas had been robbed, all owned by foreigners. The incident caused an uproar, alarming the top commander of the Hong Kong City Police Department. He ordered every officer in the force to be dispatched, demanding that the daring thief be caught and the stolen items recovered as soon as possible.

The Governor of Hong Kong was enraged. The gold and jewels he had hoarded for years had been stolen. The worst part was, he couldn’t even make a fuss about it. The origins of those items were questionable—if anyone found out, he could lose his position immediately.

Meanwhile, Lin Qingmei was still fast asleep in the hotel, unaware of the chaos she had caused.

At 11 a.m., she woke up and checked out of The Peninsula Hotel. After pulling off such a major heist the previous night, she knew the hotel would soon be investigated. To avoid being discovered as an illegal entrant, she needed to leave as soon as possible.

Before leaving Hong Kong City, Lin Qingmei needed to buy a few more supplies. She took a taxi to a wet market near the pier and, under the pretense of preparing for a banquet, bought a whole pig.

She also purchased over 20 kilograms of beef, a set of beef offal, 10 ducks, and 10 chickens.

Since she had bought so much, she paid someone to help deliver the items to her boat.

Just as Grandpa Er and Grandpa San parted ways with Boss Wang, they saw Lin Qingmei getting off a tricycle.

“Qingmei, didn’t you say you’d stay a few more days? Why are you back already?”

“Let’s get everything loaded first. We’ll talk later.” Lin Qingmei hoisted the pig onto her shoulder and headed toward the boat. With so much meat on the tricycle, it was best to move it quickly.

After all, their identities couldn’t withstand scrutiny. If anyone found out something was off, they wouldn’t be able to run even if they wanted to.

After two trips back and forth, Lin Qingmei and the two grandpas finally finished loading the meat onto the boat.

“Second Grandpa, did you manage to buy the grain? If not, we need to go ashore again.”

“We got it. Come, I’ll show you what we brought back.”

Grandpa San led Lin Qingmei to the ship’s cargo hold. Inside, in addition to grain, there were also several barrels of rapeseed oil and peanut oil that he had bought over the past two days.

“Grandpa San, you and Second Grandpa are amazing! You managed to bring back so much grain in just two days.” Lin Qingmei was truly impressed by the two old men.

“We just got lucky. Yesterday we happened to run into Boss Wang’s cargo ship arriving at the port, and he sold us this grain at a great price.”

“Sometimes good luck is also a form of strength. Since we’ve secured the grain, let’s leave right away.”

When she boarded earlier, Lin Qingmei had already noticed more patrols nearby. They needed to escape before they were searched.

“Alright then, I’ll start the boat.”

Soon after Lin Qingmei’s fishing boat left the pier, the authorities began inspecting the docked ships.

By the time they realized a boat was missing, Lin Qingmei’s group was long gone.

“So, can you tell us what happened now? You didn’t seriously rob the Governor’s Mansion, did you?” Grandpa San joked, not really believing it. The Governor’s Mansion must be heavily guarded, and no matter how capable she was, Lin Qingmei was still just a teenage girl.

“What if I said I did? Would you believe me?” Lin Qingmei neither confirmed nor denied it. Even if she told the truth, he wouldn’t believe her anyway.

He’d probably think she was just a country girl who wouldn’t even know where the Governor’s Mansion was.

“Do you think I should believe that? I’ve been to Hong Kong so many times and still don’t know where the Governor’s Mansion is. You, coming here for the first time, would know?”
