“Military Marriage Threw Its Back Out: Commander, Your Wife Ran Away Again!” Chapter 12

Chapter 12: She Took Someone Else’s Spot in College! That’s a Crime!

Qi Yuan and Shen Mengzhou were completely stunned, as if struck by a bolt of lightning out of a clear sky.

Gu Siqing was nearby, looking after the two children. She figured it was best to be upfront about the situation. She naturally trusted that Qi Yuan and Shen Mengzhou would treat the children well—after all, in her previous life, they had never mistreated Dabao and Xiaobao. But if they knew the kids were their biological grandchildren, this family would be even more complete.

“Three years ago, I told you about something—do you remember? I’ve been searching for that girl ever since.”
He had even asked his family to help look for her, but after all those years, there had been no trace.

“Now I’ve found her. It’s her.”

Qi Yuan and Shen Mengzhou exchanged a glance. They remembered what happened three years ago—Shen Qingyan had mentioned it, and they had helped him search, but no matter what they tried, they couldn’t find the girl. They figured she had left quietly the next morning, unable to accept what had happened. After all, if word got out, it would have been a total scandal.

But to think—that girl turned out to be Gu Siqing!

“I thought Dabao looked like me,” Shen Qingyan said, not mentioning the paternity test, “so I asked a few questions. The time and place from three years ago all matched.”

“Dabao and Xiaobao are my biological children.”

Once again, the conclusion was stated clearly, along with all the context. Qi Yuan and Shen Mengzhou were shocked—but also overjoyed.

Their son had injured his leg and… well, couldn’t have children anymore. They thought he would never have kids. But by some twist of fate, he had married a woman who already had children—children that turned out to be his own!

The children’s ages matched, and they were even a pair of twins—a boy and a girl! To their son, this was nothing short of perfect.

As that thought sank in, the smiles on their faces grew even more radiant.

Qi Yuan was so happy she started to cry. She turned and grabbed Gu Siqing’s hand tightly, eyes brimming with tears. “Thank you, child. You’re truly a blessing to our family.”

Shen Mengzhou wasn’t good with words, but he was clearly delighted too. They had already grown fond of the two children after they stayed over the previous night, and now they were thrilled.

These were Shen family children!

“Dabao, Xiaobao,” Qi Yuan called. The two kids ran over at once.
“Grandma!”

“Hurry!” Qi Yuan scooped them up in her arms and gave Shen Mengzhou a little smack.
“Go get the gifts we brought for the kids! Why are you just standing there doing nothing?”

They had prepared gifts in advance as a welcome for the kids. Now, they brought them out even more enthusiastically.

They originally had two red envelopes, but Qi Yuan thought that wasn’t enough. She directly reached into Shen Mengzhou’s pocket, took out his wallet, and emptied all the cash into the children’s hands.

“Let Mom take you shopping,” she said. “Now let Grandma have a proper hug.”

With one child on each side, Qi Yuan didn’t feel tired at all—she showered them with kisses.

When the dishes were brought to their table at the restaurant, she even sat with the kids while they ate.

Gu Siqing laughed and cried, “Mom, they can eat by themselves.”

“I’m just happy,” Qi Yuan said, beaming the entire night.

Back then, when Shen Qingyan was injured on the battlefield, and she learned he couldn’t walk and couldn’t have children anymore, she had nearly fainted. Now that everything had turned out so beautifully, she could hardly contain herself—she wanted to shout the news to the world.

“Let us enjoy this moment,” Shen Mengzhou said as he fed Dabao.
“What do you want to eat? Grandpa will get it for you.”

Seeing how kind they were to the children, Gu Siqing felt genuinely happy. Her old family had treated the kids like burdens, like leeches. Now, the kids had their real father and grandparents—they were finally whole. Life would be so much better now.

After dinner, the kids came down from their grandparents’ laps and ran back to Gu Siqing, throwing themselves into her arms with wide, contented smiles.

“Mommy, this is amazing,” Dabao whispered.

Gu Siqing nearly cried as she gently patted their heads.
“It’ll always be like this from now on.”

The kids nodded eagerly, their faces full of joy. Everything about tonight made them giddy with happiness.

The family finished dinner joyfully. As they were about to leave the restaurant and return to the hotel, Qi Yuan ran downstairs again.

When she came back up, her hands were full of shopping bags—new clothes and toys for Dabao and Xiaobao.

She dropped the bags and rubbed her sore arms. “If I wasn’t so tired, I’d go buy even more.”

Then she shot Shen Mengzhou a glare.
“You have no awareness at all! You knew I was going down to shop—why didn’t you come help carry things?”

Shen Mengzhou: “…”

You already took all the cash out of my wallet, okay?

Qi Yuan seemed to realize this too. She huffed, “Even if you had no money, you could’ve come help carry stuff!”

Seeing her in-laws still so affectionate after all these years, Gu Siqing couldn’t help but feel warmth in her heart.

This really was a good family. No wonder they had treated her so kindly in her past life.

They chatted for a while longer and talked about the next day’s return visit. Qi Yuan reminded her,
“Wanrou, we bought some things, but if it’s not enough, go buy more.”

Then she stuffed the leftover cash from shopping into Gu Siqing’s hands.

“You’ve had it hard these past years. From now on, Mom will make it up to you.”

As a university professor, she was well aware of how harsh society could be on women during this time. People often said women could hold up half the sky, but a young girl raising twins on her own under so much gossip and judgment—it was no easy feat.

She could already imagine the neighbors whispering behind her back when they found out a young girl gave birth without being married.

Some girls might even have taken their own lives from that kind of pressure. Then the kids would’ve lost their mom, and who knows what would’ve happened.

They wouldn’t have ended up with her son, that’s for sure.

“Mom, her name isn’t Wanrou,” Shen Qingyan interrupted, pinching the bridge of his nose. He had been so focused on announcing that the kids were his biological children that he’d forgotten the other major issue.

Qi Yuan froze again.

If that last piece of news had been a shock, then this one was just baffling.

Seeing the confusion on his mother’s face, Shen Qingyan spoke seriously and explained how Gu Wanrou had used Gu Siqing’s identity to go to college—how she had impersonated her.

After hearing everything, Qi Yuan shot to her feet in rage.
“How can someone be so shameless!? Does she think college is a joke?
She actually took someone else’s spot to attend college? That’s illegal! That’s jail time!”

Back in those days, this kind of identity fraud happened quite a bit. Information systems were lacking, and there were no official ID cards yet. As long as the name on the introduction letter matched the name on the admission letter, you could get into college.
