“Military Marriage Threw Its Back Out: Commander, Your Wife Ran Away Again!” Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Gossiping Neighbors: The One Who Got Into College Was Actually Gu Siqing???

Ever since Shen Qingyan began to speak, the police officer’s eyes had been on his face. Now, hearing him say, “I know my wife was falsely accused, that’s why I reported it to the police. I just want the truth to come out. Officer, please start the investigation right away—don’t be fooled by their attempts to muddle things,” the officer began to head toward the door.

Bai Cuiyan and Gu Dakai exchanged glances—how had things escalated to this point? Panic began to set in.

From the very beginning, their plan had been to steal Gu Siqing’s spot for college. It was just four years, after all—once finished, the good job placement would be secured. They thought Gu Siqing wouldn’t dare speak out. But how did things fall apart so quickly?

Hiding inside a room, Gu Wanrou was also panicking. Getting into college had given her access to better people, better resources, and a better future. Now they wanted her to give that all back? Impossible! But what was she supposed to do about today’s situation? The police weren’t joking.

Their minds raced, trying to come up with a flawless solution.

Gu Dakai, utterly flustered, stood across from Gu Siqing, desperately signaling to her with his eyes, even trying to threaten her. But Gu Siqing, seeing his mouth moving, was completely unfazed. She had already stored everything from their home into her spatial space, and the house was legally hers. Threaten her? Ha.

“Uncle,” Gu Siqing stood beside Shen Qingyan, arms crossed and gaze cold, “if your eyes are malfunctioning, go get them checked. It would be unfortunate if you went blind. Stop blinking at me like that!”

The police officer, catching the exchange, shot Gu Dakai a sharp look and warned, “If you continue obstructing our investigation, don’t blame us for being harsh—we’ll take you in for a few days!”

Gu Dakai instantly shut up.

“Officer, the real Gu Wanrou should be in that room,” Gu Siqing said, not wanting to waste any more time as she pointed to Gu Wanrou’s room. “Please get her out. I want to clear my name.”

“These days, getting into college isn’t easy,” she added, fueling the fire.

The officer nodded, thinking her words made sense, and walked to the door she pointed at. He knocked.

Earlier, Gu Wanrou had cracked the door open when she considered coming out, but worried about making too much noise, she hadn’t shut it completely. When the officer knocked, the door creaked open.

Gu Wanrou stood inside, fists clenched so tightly her palms were almost bleeding, silently cursing Gu Siqing over and over. Seeing the police, she had no choice but to pretend to be calm and step out.

Putting on a pitiful act, she said, “Stop making a scene. You’re ruining the whole family! Have you forgotten who gave you food when your parents were gone?”

Gu Siqing rolled her eyes. “Back when I was little, how old were you? Was it you who fed me?”

Shen Qingyan, sitting in his wheelchair, raised an eyebrow in amusement. That’s his wife—sharp as ever. This family was truly disgusting!

“You…” Gu Wanrou was trembling with rage. “Gu Siqing, you’re a white-eyed wolf! You’re just jealous of me!”

Gu Siqing grinned brightly. “Shouting your own name to scold yourself—does that feel satisfying or confusing?” She shook her head, pretending she couldn’t understand.

Gu Wanrou, furious, raised her hand as if to strike. “I am the real Gu Siqing! I’m the one who got into college! I passed the exam with my own ability! She’s slandering me!”

Gu Siqing didn’t even flinch. The neighbors were about to arrive—let them decide.

At this point, Gu Wanrou still had the audacity to call it slander. Her psychological endurance was truly impressive. Then again, she was the heroine of the book—naturally skilled at twisting the truth.

Ranting like a madwoman, she nearly lunged at Gu Siqing.

The officer couldn’t stand it anymore and sternly said, “Just because your family says it’s slander doesn’t make it so. We investigate based on evidence. We don’t blindly believe, and we certainly don’t wrong the innocent.”

Gu Wanrou had to freeze in place, though she kept glancing at Gu Dakai and Bai Cuiyan. The three exchanged frantic looks—how could they get out of this mess?

Just then, the officer returned with two neighbors—and a crowd of curious onlookers behind them. People thought this was about the theft case and started chatting.

But when the officer explained they were here for a different matter and needed help identifying someone, the onlookers got excited. Someone even brought sunflower seeds—only the folding stool was missing. They were eager to see the drama unfold.

The officer brought the neighbors inside and asked, “Could you tell us who is Gu Siqing and who is Gu Wanrou?”

The Gu family had lived in the courtyard for years, and the neighbors had watched both girls grow up—of course they recognized them.

One pointed at Gu Wanrou: “That’s Gu Wanrou, their biological daughter.”

Then at Gu Siqing: “That’s Gu Siqing, Wanrou’s cousin. She’s the daughter of Gu Dakai’s younger brother.”

The second neighbor nodded in agreement.

“Is there any chance you’re mistaken?” the officer asked again.

They both shook their heads quickly. “How could we be wrong? We’ve lived in the same courtyard for years—we watched them grow up!”

“Yes, exactly!”

“We can definitely tell them apart.”

The crowd outside started buzzing.

“When did they switch identities?”

“Another shady deal? The Gu family is always up to something!”

“Gu Dakai’s done plenty of shady things over the years. It’s embarrassing just hearing about it. Too bad he’s never felt ashamed himself!”

Someone even shot Gu Dakai a contemptuous glare.

Inside, Bai Cuiyan and Gu Dakai felt as if their faces had been ripped off and stomped on repeatedly. They were livid but couldn’t lash out with the police present, so they just glared at Gu Siqing like dying fish flipping on a dock.

With the neighbors confirming their story, the officer realized this wasn’t a simple dispute. He turned his attention to Gu Wanrou and began to scold her.

“This is wrong. Getting into college is hard—how could you take someone else’s place?”

What?

The officer’s words caused an uproar in the crowd.

They realized he was addressing Gu Wanrou—she was the only college student in the house. So she was the impostor?

“Even if you’re family, you can’t enroll in college using your cousin’s name. She earned that spot herself. That’s her achievement.”

The officer ignored the chaos outside and continued lecturing Gu Wanrou.

The neighbors’ eyes widened in shock.

For years, Bai Cuiyan had been bragging about how talented and beautiful her daughter was, how she got into college and would soon be assigned a great job—a golden phoenix flying out of their humble home.

Whenever someone asked about Gu Siqing, she’d sigh dramatically, tear her down completely, saying her grades were terrible, she failed the exam, her character was questionable, she was promiscuous and even had two illegitimate children. The only reason they hadn’t kicked her out was because they were kindhearted, letting her stay and help around the house—even though she always acted like they owed her.

But now?

It turns out Gu Wanrou stole Gu Siqing’s identity to go to college?

So that means—the one who actually got into college… was Gu Siqing!
