“Military Marriage Threw Its Back Out: Commander, Your Wife Ran Away Again!” Chapter 26

Chapter 26: Shen Qingyan – My Wife Is So Smart

Gu Siqing figured that even if it were a real thief, they would still be able to empty out most of the house. Her goal had been achieved, so she didn’t linger any longer. She exited the house skillfully and headed straight back to the hotel. After returning, she entered her space, freshened up, and then flopped onto the large bed. The bed sank slightly beneath her weight, and she rolled around with satisfaction, her heart still brimming with anticipation.

If, before she left for the capital, Gu Dakai ended up selling off her job again and used the money to buy more things for their household, maybe she could pay them another “visit.” In any case, her aim was to push them into a corner! After all, over the years, they had enjoyed the inheritance left behind by her parents and lived a very comfortable life!

Back at the police station that day, although Gu Siqing couldn’t state the exact amount, judging by how well their family had lived all these years, she could guess that the inheritance must’ve been quite substantial. When the brothers split the family property, their grandparents had gone to live with Gu Dakai’s family, who only got a small three-bedroom apartment. They sold it early on, and the money had likely depreciated over time, meaning it wouldn’t have lasted long. She remembered her mother had bought some gold jewelry back then — probably as a way to preserve value — but it had likely been sold off by her aunt.

Although she hadn’t said it aloud at the station, she had already made her plans in her mind. Thinking about all this, Gu Siqing peacefully drifted off to sleep. Since they weren’t sharing the same room, no one would know she had gone out.

———

At the crack of dawn, the sound of roosters crowing rang outside. Gu Dakai stretched lazily and got out of bed, eyes half-closed, intending to head to the bathroom. He patted Bai Cuiyan on the shoulder as he got up.
“Get up and make breakfast,” he muttered.
He still had to go to work after breakfast.

The two of them sleepily shuffled out of the room. The bathroom was just to the left of the hallway. Gu Dakai went in first. Bai Cuiyan, now more awake, walked toward the kitchen. As soon as she entered, a chilly breeze swept in. She yawned, fully alert now — only to find that everything on the stove was gone.

What the…?

Her heart skipped a beat — could it have happened again, like last time? Had they been robbed? She slowly turned around and sure enough, the living room was completely empty. She couldn’t hold it in anymore and screamed,
“Ahhhhhh!!!”

Gu Dakai, still in the bathroom with his eyes shut and pants halfway up, jumped at the sound. He rushed out, pants in hand. The moment he opened the door and saw the empty living room, his eyes widened with rage.
“What the hell happened again!?”

The elderly couple also rushed out upon hearing the commotion. When they saw the stripped-bare house, they slumped to the floor in shock.

Before anyone could say a word, Gu Ruizhuo came running out wearing nothing but boxer shorts. His eyes were red as he glared at Bai Cuiyan.
“My stuff’s gone too! And those two new pairs of shoes I just bought!”

“Which bastard did this?! If I find them, I swear I’ll beat them to death!”

Gu Ruizhuo had always been an arrogant brat, and now he was ranting furiously. Hearing about the stolen shoes, Bai Cuiyan suddenly remembered those were worth more than 30 yuan. Her head spun, and she collapsed to the floor sobbing.
“Old Gu, what the hell is going on? Could it be those same people who robbed us last time?!”

“Why are they still targeting our house?!”

Her body swayed. Gu Dakai suddenly remembered something and rushed back into the room. In a corner, he found a plain little box. When he opened it — the 1,000 yuan inside was gone.

“Aaahhh!!!” he shouted involuntarily.

The more they thought about it, the more wrong it seemed.

“That thief must be targeting us specifically — twice now! And this time they cleaned us out!” the elderly woman cried, trembling.

“It has to be someone from the old compound!” Gu Ruizhuo seemed to have a rare moment of clarity. “Think about it — last time, our house was cleared out so thoroughly. Someone must’ve helped them, either by giving them the inside scoop or hiding stuff for them. Otherwise, how could they be so fast? We were only gone for a few hours!”

“And this time, only the people in the compound know we sold the job and moved to a new place.”

Hearing Gu Ruizhuo’s analysis, Gu Dakai thought it made sense. He hurriedly yanked Bai Cuiyan off the floor.
“What are you still doing here? Go report it to the police!”

Since they had moved, the area was under a different jurisdiction, and this time a different group of officers responded.

When Bai Cuiyan got to the station sobbing, the officers followed her home. Upon seeing the completely cleaned-out home, even they were stunned.

One young officer couldn’t help but remark,
“This thief is impressive… Not a trace left? This has to be the work of a gang!”

“We’ve been robbed of everything but the beds — and it’s not even the first time!” Bai Cuiyan wailed.
“Officer, you have to catch them this time! That was all the money we had — they’re trying to destroy our whole family!”

“Not the first time?” The police immediately caught that detail. Gu Dakai then recounted what happened the last time and even provided a few of his own deductions.
“Only people from the old compound knew we sold the job and had money.”

The police thought his reasoning had some merit — though of course, evidence would still be needed before making any arrests.

Because the door was open and the police had arrived, the new neighbors nearby all came over to watch the commotion.

“Why are the police here?”

Hearing that, everyone came over out of curiosity. After all, back in those days, it usually meant someone had done something wrong.

When they saw the completely empty house, everyone was stunned — no furniture, nothing. Just an empty shell.

Then they heard Bai Cuiyan sobbing to the officers,
“This is the second time we’ve been robbed! That thief is clearly targeting us!”

“Officer, you must investigate thoroughly!”

The neighbors, now hearing it was the second time, began to panic. They quickly rushed back home to hide their valuables.

If the thief didn’t get anything here next time, what if they chose their homes instead? They had to secure everything.

———

Gu Siqing, meanwhile, knew nothing of the chaos back at their house. But she guessed that when they woke up the next morning, they’d definitely feel like they’d been hit by a truck.

She had slept soundly and, upon waking, went to check on Shen Qingyan, then started making breakfast.

Shen Qingyan had wheeled himself around the courtyard inside the space for a couple of laps. Then, in the corner, he noticed a new pile of furniture.

He stared blankly for a few seconds, then the faintest smile spread across his lips.

Looks like his wife had gone out last night to “rob the rich and give to the poor” — robbing Gu Dakai’s wealth and enriching her own poverty.

His wife was truly brilliant!
