“Military Marriage Threw Its Back Out: Commander, Your Wife Ran Away Again!” Chapter 28

Chapter 28: The Whole Family Singing Praises

“Mom, this is the good news we’ve been wanting to tell you!” Gu Siqing quickly added. They had been staying here for a month, which meant a month of treatment in the space as well. Every day, she treated Shen Qingyan, using acupuncture and massage to stimulate his meridians. Gradually, he began to regain feeling in his legs, and just a couple of mornings ago, he was even able to stand for more than ten seconds with the support of a rehabilitation robot.

They originally planned to tell Qi Yuan after returning to the capital, but since the house was already sold and the university admission reinstated, this was the perfect time to share the good news.

“Good, good!” Qi Yuan was so overwhelmed she burst into tears. Walking over in surprise, she said, “Son, Mom thought you’d never stand up again. What happened?”

They had consulted many doctors in the capital, but every one of them had just shaken their heads, saying the chance of recovery was incredibly slim.

Now, miraculously, there was hope.

Even if he could only stand for a few minutes, it was already a huge breakthrough that moved Qi Yuan deeply.

Gu Siqing and Shen Qingyan exchanged a glance, and she smiled. “I’ve always liked medicine. I learned a bit of acupuncture from traditional Chinese medicine when I was young. Even while living at the Gu family’s house, I secretly read a lot of medical books and taught myself.”

“Since we were just staying here with nothing much to do, I looked at Ah Yan’s legs and thought there might be a way, so I gave it a try. I didn’t expect it to work, even just a little.”

“With time, he should be able to stand up again.”

In fact, she was certain he would stand, but Gu Siqing didn’t want to make too bold a claim yet. After all, curing what even the top hospitals in the capital had declared hopeless—especially through self-taught skills—was already shocking enough. It was best to take things one step at a time.

“Yes,” Shen Qingyan looked up at her with tenderness. “Every day we stayed in the room, Siqing performed acupuncture and massage for me and helped me gradually exercise.”

Qi Yuan couldn’t hold back her tears anymore. Like a breached dam, she began sobbing audibly. Clutching Gu Siqing’s hands tightly, she said, “Siqing, you truly are our family’s lucky star. Not only did you give Qingyan two children, but now you’ve also helped him recover.”

“He doesn’t even know how to thank you. If he ever treats you badly in the future, just tell me—I’ll teach him a lesson myself. I’ll never let him take your kindness for granted!”

“Being able to marry you is the biggest blessing of his life!”

Qi Yuan held onto Gu Siqing’s hands, praising her over and over. Shen Qingyan, standing behind, couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth. His mom really knew how to roast him. But of course, he would never take Gu Siqing for granted—never. In every possible way, marrying her was indeed his greatest fortune.

“Mom.” Seeing how sad Qi Yuan looked, Gu Siqing gently patted her back. “He will stand up. Life will get better. Don’t be too sad—this is good news.”

“Yes! This is great news!” Qi Yuan snapped out of it. Laughing through her tears, she wiped her face. The two little ones, seeing her like that, ran over and hugged her legs.

“Grandma, don’t cry.”

With one child on each side, Qi Yuan finally smiled through her tears. “Grandma’s not crying. Grandma’s just really happy.”

The two little ones had been listening the whole time. Dabo blinked in confusion and asked, “Mom, does this mean Dad can stand up and play soccer with us?”

“Yes!” Shen Qingyan rolled over in his wheelchair and held their hands. “Once Daddy stands, not only can I play soccer with you, I can also go shopping with you, and do everything else.”

He had long wanted to make up for what he couldn’t give his kids. If he could stand, he’d fill in all the missing fatherly love.

“Yay!” The kids cheered and jumped for joy. Seeing how happy everyone was, Gu Siqing quickly uncovered the food. “Come try the food I brought back today.”

The kids’ eyes lit up at the sight of the feast on the table. They’d been eating well lately, and their faces had started to fill out. But seeing this rich spread—and with the aroma filling the air—they couldn’t resist.

Everyone dug in heartily. Qi Yuan took a few bites and sighed, “The food at this restaurant is amazing. Who knows if we’ll ever get to eat it again.”

Gu Siqing and Shen Qingyan exchanged a knowing glance but said nothing. They had agreed in the space to keep things low-key regarding his recovery.

Qi Yuan now believed her daughter-in-law was a miracle worker. She even emphasized it when she later called the university principal.

After the meal, Gu Siqing went out for a stroll and tried to get more information about Gu Dakai’s family. Unfortunately, she heard they hadn’t yet sold Gu Dakai’s job. She was a little disappointed—she had hoped to pay their house another visit before leaving. What a pity! (??? ? ???)

Yawning, Gu Siqing finally left the compound for good.

The Next Day

The whole family went for one last walk around the area. For the sake of memories, Gu Siqing even took Qi Yuan and the others to take a family photo together.

Everyone happily packed up, and early the next morning, they headed to the train station.

The kids had never been on a train before. When they got to the platform, they looked around nervously, clutching each other’s little hands tightly.

The train soon arrived.

“Wooo!” The whistle blew as the train entered the station. The children’s eyes lit up—they’d only seen trains on TV before, and now seeing one up close had their little hearts racing with excitement.

“Let’s go!” As the train pulled in, the passengers behind surged forward. Gu Siqing stayed behind to push Shen Qingyan, while Qi Yuan led the kids to find their seats.

They had booked a sleeper cabin. Dabo and Xiaobao were overjoyed once they sat down, waving their little hands.

“Mom! Are we really riding this green train to go see Grandpa?” Dabo blinked his sparkly eyes, while Xiaobao looked around curiously.

“Yes. Once the train stops, we’ll be with Grandpa again,” Gu Siqing said, prompting the kids to jump around the compartment with joy.

As the train began to move and the scenery outside zipped past, the kids clapped and shouted excitedly.

“So pretty!”

Seeing their bright-eyed wonder, Gu Siqing patted their heads and pulled out some jerky from her pocket. “If you get hungry, have a bite.”

Qi Yuan leaned in and whispered, “You managed to get this? It’s not easy to find jerky like this—it takes forever to make.”

“I got it from that food stall I mentioned. The owner makes it herself. I told her we were taking the train, and she offered me some. I bought extra to bring back for Dad to try,” Gu Siqing lied without blinking.

Shen Qingyan chimed in, playing along, “So when you’re out for a while, you’re really learning from the boss lady, huh?”

He was helping set the stage—just in case the same flavors showed up later, Qi Yuan wouldn’t get suspicious.

“Exactly,” Gu Siqing laughed, glancing at Shen Qingyan with affection. This man wasn’t just handsome—he was considerate, clever, and always stood by her.

Shen Qingyan nodded. “We’re in for a treat then.”

Qi Yuan was a little stunned. She looked at Gu Siqing with growing admiration—and some emotion. If Gu Wanrou hadn’t minded her son’s disability and refused the match, they might have missed out on such an amazing daughter-in-law.

They all tasted the jerky, and Qi Yuan gave a big thumbs-up.

The kids, tired after a while, fell asleep after eating a few pieces.

Gu Siqing continued massaging and doing acupuncture for Shen Qingyan as Qi Yuan watched attentively.

The train ride would take several days, but she never missed a session. Gradually, Shen Qingyan progressed from standing to walking ten meters on his own.

Watching her son walk across the cabin and back again, Qi Yuan couldn’t stop her tears from falling.

From standing to walking—it was really happening. His legs were recovering.

“Mom,” Shen Qingyan chuckled when he saw her crying again. “You’re crying over good news?”

Qi Yuan glared at him, “Can you blame me? Back then, all those top doctors in the capital said you’d never walk again.”

Now, seeing her son walk like a normal person, she was reminded of his sharp, heroic figure when he was a soldier. How could she not be happy?

Shen Qingyan returned to the cabin and held Gu Siqing’s hand. “It’s really because my wife is incredible. Even better than those old professors in the capital.”

Gu Siqing, embarrassed, tried to pull her hand back, wanting him to stop saying such things. After all, her success heavily relied on the space’s advanced equipment.

But Qi Yuan was dead serious. “That’s right. Those people can’t compare—our Siqing is the best.”

Hearing them both praise her so seriously made Gu Siqing blush.

“Mommy’s the best!”

“Mom is the most amazing person in the whole world!” the two kids echoed, tilting their heads, full of admiration.

Gu Siqing felt her teeth ache from the sweetness but braced herself. “Maybe it was the acupuncture and massage that helped most. We also used herbal compresses.”

“Traditional Chinese medicine is profound. Everyone interprets it differently. Maybe this time I just got lucky.”

“But no matter what, the professors in the capital are experts too. I’ll continue learning from them—only by filling in my gaps can I become truly good.”
