Chapter 18 – Blind Date
Sang Feiyu looked at the two elderly people in front of her, covered in injuries, and felt no emotional ripple in her heart.
They had cursed her to die, reported her to the Revolutionary Committee, and now she had simply returned the favor—she had no psychological burden about it at all.
Madam Tao’s eyes were like poisoned daggers. “It was you, wasn’t it?”
Sang Feiyu replied coldly, “That’s right.”
“I reported you by name—for sheltering criminals, slandering others, and having problematic ideology…”
“You reported me by name first. I simply learned it from you. If you want to blame someone, blame yourselves.”
Old Man Tao spat harshly, “You should’ve never been born!”
Madam Tao cursed viciously, “You killed your parents, and now you want to kill us too—you’re a jinx!”
At the mention of her parents, Sang Feiyu’s eyes dimmed slightly.
She had come here today precisely to tell them the truth about her parents’ deaths!
“Tao Jiaxing and Liu Ying conspired together and bribed a mechanic at the repair shop to tamper with my parents’ car.”
“My parents were murdered by them!”
“You blamed their deaths on me, but I won’t accept it!”
Madam Tao didn’t believe a word she said. “You’ve already dragged us all down—happy now?”
“What’s the point of saying this now?”
Could her second son and daughter-in-law come back to life?
Sang Feiyu saw the disbelief on their faces and sneered slightly. “Believe it or not, I don’t care.”
“The mechanic has already confessed. Liu Ying even gave him three gold bars. What do you think got them caught again?”
Madam Tao stared at her in shock. “What are you trying to do?”
“Are you trying to drive us to death?”
Sang Feiyu said word by word, “You always favored your eldest son, but it was him and his wife who orchestrated the murder of my parents!”
“I’ve said what I came to say.”
And with that, she turned and walked away.
Madam Tao cursed her under her breath a few times but then started feeling something wasn’t right.
They were already imprisoned—why would Sang Feiyu still lie to them?
Was she just trying to anger them to death?
Just then, a Red Armband passed by, and she instinctively called out to ask about the matter.
“Oh, that’s real.”
“The Tao couple hired someone to tamper with Tao Jialin’s car to claim the family inheritance.”
“If the mechanic hadn’t suddenly quit and gone back to his hometown, the police wouldn’t have caught the killer so quickly.”
“They even found three gold bars on him, said to be given by Liu Ying.”
Madam Tao gasped. “What did you say?!”
Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted on the spot.
Old Man Tao wasn’t doing much better. He had always believed that their second son and his wife had been cursed to death by Sang Feiyu.
He never expected it was actually the eldest son and his wife who had killed them!
Why would they do that?
The second son didn’t even have a child—everything in the future would have gone to the eldest son anyway. Couldn’t they have just waited a little longer?
When Madam Tao woke up, she spent her days crying, face bathed in tears. “Boohoo…”
“What a sin we’ve committed!”
“Our second son died so horribly!”
“Boohoo…”
Meanwhile, Sang Feiyu was completely unaware of this. At that moment, she was in the state-run restaurant… on a blind date.
It was strange, really. From Min Province to Yangcheng, plus the need to apply for leave, it should’ve taken at least three or four days.
And yet—after just a phone call, he boarded a train that very night?
Perplexed, she met Ning Zhiyuan’s gaze. His eyes shimmered faintly with light as he stared at her without blinking.
Sang Feiyu didn’t immediately look away. Instead, she carefully took in Ning Zhiyuan’s appearance.
With sword-like brows and starry eyes, clear-cut features, and every detail on his face perfectly proportioned—he was flawless.
Setting everything else aside—just that face alone was already a major plus.
Ning Zhiyuan looked at Sang Feiyu cautiously, as if afraid this was just his own illusion.
Dear heavens—he had never been this excited before!
He was actually on a blind date with the girl he’d had a secret crush on!
“Sang Comrade, I think it’s necessary for me to properly introduce myself again,” he hurriedly began promoting himself.
“My name is Ning Zhiyuan. I’m from Shanghai. I have both parents, an older brother, and a younger sister.”
“My brother is already married and has a child.”
“I’m a company commander in the Fujian Provincial Military District, responsible for coastal security in the eastern region.”
“With my current rank, my family is eligible to live with me on base. Based on the standard for company commanders, I can apply for a two-bedroom unit.”
“My monthly salary is…”
Sang Feiyu interrupted him, “You don’t need to go into such detail.”
“And besides, this is a public setting—talking about salary and benefits isn’t appropriate.”
She didn’t lack money, so she didn’t care about how much he earned or what benefits he had.
What she needed was to find someone dependable—someone who could protect her during this special period.
“Do you know about my situation?” she asked.
“Yes, I do.”
“You don’t mind?” Sang Feiyu asked curiously.
She was worried that Ning Zhiyuan had been forced into this blind date by his father—especially considering the connection between Commander Ning and her grandfather.
But Ning Zhiyuan answered without hesitation, “I don’t mind.”
“Sang Comrade, actually, my family situation is quite suitable for you.”
Sang Feiyu squinted slightly. Something felt off!
Why did it feel like this man was trying to convince her?
“You really weren’t forced into this at all?”
“Not at all!”
Ning Zhiyuan quickly explained, “Two years ago, I saw you at a Cantonese restaurant.”
“You left a very deep impression on me back then.”
Sang Feiyu was taken aback. “We’ve met again since we were kids?”
She only remembered her grandma telling her they’d met once as children!
“Yes, two years ago—on your birthday. I went to that restaurant with some friends and happened to see you.”
Sang Feiyu suddenly slapped her forehead, surprised and delighted.
“So it was you!”
“I remember you were in uniform that day. Your hair was even shorter than it is now.”
Ning Zhiyuan was shocked. “You remember me?”
He was so handsome that he stood out even in a crowd—it would’ve been hard to forget him.
Sang Feiyu had always remembered that on her birthday, she’d seen a very good-looking soldier.
She just never thought that same person would end up as her blind date!
“Yes, I remember you.”
“I’m very happy to see you again.” Sang Feiyu’s face bloomed with a brilliant smile, like spring sunlight brushing softly across one’s face.
Ning Zhiyuan was equally captivated by her smile. The light in his eyes sparkled like a galaxy.
The bell signaling that food was ready rang. Sang Feiyu and Ning Zhiyuan went together to pick up the dishes: “Chicken feet, rice noodle rolls, roast goose, stir-fried beef noodles…”
“It’s all my favorite food.”
“Did you ask my grandma about my preferences?”
Ning Zhiyuan answered honestly, “Back then at the restaurant, I overheard the staff talking about it.”
“I just didn’t know if, after two years, you’d still like the same things.”
Sang Feiyu widened her eyes. “Your memory is way too good!”
Ning Zhiyuan replied modestly, “It’s alright.”
The two of them exchanged smiles. But to someone watching from outside the window… the sight was absolutely unbearable.
