The list above contains many things, all of which were done by Xu Shuying.
It’s unclear where Big Sister collected them from. Xu Shuying looked through it, feeling both shocked and incredulous.
Among them, there was one instance where she brought a love interest home and found Xu Mo there. She denied Xu Mo being her brother, claiming he was a servant.
And then there was another where she slapped Xu Mo because he accidentally dirtied her skirt.
Between siblings, these things weren’t initially a big deal, but now that Big Sister brought them up, it became very unusual.
Xu Mo was poisoned, someone wanted to kill him.
Xu Shuying couldn’t believe someone would do such a thing and hastily looked up at Xu Wanting. “Sister, I admit to doing these things, but I swear I didn’t poison Xu Mo. I couldn’t have done it!”
“Palladium, an ordinary person can’t get it, only your laboratory can. You, Xu Shuying, can’t shake off the suspicion!” Xu Wanting stared coldly at her. “Let me tell you, Xu Shuying, you’d better think about what you’ve done. There are over a dozen items listed here, and each one shows you mistreating him!”
“Me? Mistreating him?” Xu Shuying was shocked.
“Isn’t it? What do you think you’ve been doing? Do you think it’s just sibling playfulness? Even if you falsely accused him, you didn’t care? Even if you reported him to our parents, causing him to be punished and not allowed to eat, you think it’s fine?”
Xu Wanting stared at her. “Xu Shuying, I now believe you’re the one who poisoned Xu Mo!”
Xu Shuying was stunned, finding it hard to accept, suddenly unsure how to refute.
“I know you don’t like him, you despise him, you hate him. But that’s not a reason to kill him! Neither you nor anyone else, including myself, has a reason to kill him!”
“You can hate him, you can despise him, you can scorn him. But why would you want to kill him? Hasn’t he been humble enough in our family? Has he done anything outrageous in our family?”
Tears streamed down Xu Wanting’s face. “Xu Shuying, you’d better think about what you’ve done. When did you poison him?”
Xu Shuying looked at her elder sister crying and felt a panic rising within her. Hastily, she said, “I didn’t poison him! I don’t want to kill him! When did I ever want to kill him?”
“Then explain to me, how did his blood test show high levels of heavy metals, and he got palladium poisoning? You’re telling me he did it to himself? Would you do it to yourself?” Xu Wanting snapped.
“He might…” Xu Shuying faltered.
“I checked the palladium, and it came from your lab! If it wasn’t you, then it must be Third or Fourth Elder Sister, or someone else!” Xu Wanting continued, “Xu Shuying, he hasn’t done anything outrageous! In our family, he hasn’t even taken much money! Our parents only give him five hundred yuan for living expenses each month, barely enough for meals. He doesn’t even have anyone to buy him clothes or shoes! He hasn’t offended you, Xu Shuying!”
“Even though he’s tried to visit your hospital several times to see you, making you feel insulted and unable to admit he’s your brother, does that warrant death?”
“Since he left home, he hasn’t told anyone he was poisoned! But he’s always known someone was trying to poison him!”
“He’s always known someone wanted to kill him!”
Tears streamed down Xu Wanting’s face. “You’re one of the prime suspects because the palladium came from your lab! Only you could access palladium powder!”
Xu Shuying stood still, her expression filled with fear. “I-I didn’t do it! I didn’t poison him! How could I poison him? I just…”
“I know you hate him! You feel he’s not worthy of being your brother! I felt the same before!” Xu Wanting cried as she spoke. “Before, everyone in the family felt the same way! So when he was at home, nobody cared about his feelings! He endured beatings and scoldings, received no allowance, and had to secretly work part-time outside…”
“Xu Shuying, there’s another document here. Take it back and have a look! Maybe after reading it, you’ll understand some things! I need your cooperation to find out who wanted to poison Xu Mo!”
Xu Shuying was startled by Xu Wanting’s words, her movements mechanical as she subconsciously took the other document and glanced at it.
A conversation quickly caught her eye, causing her expression to freeze.
“Tang Lei, did you know? It turns out that the doctor who comes to our orphanage for charity clinics is my fifth sister!”
“She works at Fu Yi Hospital!”
“The first time I saw her, I recognized her! Doctor Xu, she cured Huanxi’s cold, and Banzhuang’s heart disease too! I asked around, and it turns out Doctor Xu is the most famous and talented doctor at Fu Yi Hospital!”
…
Xu Shuying was stunned, looking up at Xu Wanting.
Xu Wanting sniffed, “Did you ever go to the East City Orphanage for charity clinics? Did you see Xu Mo there?”
Xu Shuying recalled for a moment, but she couldn’t recall any impression of Xu Mo. However, six years ago, just after graduating, she had indeed gone to the orphanage for charity clinics.
“I don’t remember him!”
“He recognized you the moment our parents brought him home! Among us, you were the first one he recognized!”
Xu Shuying swallowed hard, feeling her heart racing for some inexplicable reason.
She had almost forgotten that Xu Mo had grown up in the orphanage.
Trembling, she held the documents, trying hard to remember. After a moment, she continued, “I, I recall some now. Xu Mo was very thin at the time, hiding among the crowd. Most of the children in the orphanage were like that, feeling insecure and weak…”
Xu Wanting sniffed, “Keep looking. Hopefully, you’ll find some answers.”
Xu Shuying nodded and picked up the document to read.
She saw several dialogues again:
“I’m so happy, Tang Lei! Dr. Xu turned out to be my sister! My real sister, a kind and gentle doctor!”
“I’ve heard many people go to my Fifth Sister for treatment. She’s extremely famous at her hospital, a highly skilled attending physician!”
“At that time, we were all thinking, ‘If only Dr. Xu were our sister,’ and now it’s actually true!”
As Xu Mo wrote these words, he seemed extremely excited and happy, punctuating his sentences with a series of emoticons, conveying his overflowing excitement onto the page.
Xu Shuying’s heart trembled, and she turned to Xu Wanting in astonishment, “Sister, this…”
“He has always admired you!”
“Dr. Xu!”
Xu Wanting, her eyes red, spoke up, “Since the first time he stepped into our home and recognized you! He almost constantly admired you, looked up to you, and took pride in you! He considered you one of the best sisters in the world. He knew you a long time ago!”
Xu Shuying had no memory of this aspect and was left speechless, her mouth agape in disbelief.
“He went to your Hospital several times, wanting to see if you were there! For him, as an orphan, having a sister working at a prestigious hospital like Fu Yi Hospital was something he was extremely proud of!”
“He couldn’t wait to share this happiness and excitement with his friends! He was once so eager, almost like a madman, to trace your footsteps!”
