Xu Shuying was completely stunned, unable to utter a word for a long time.
She watched as tears streamed down her elder sister’s face, feeling at a loss for what to do.
Glancing down at the papers in her hand, memories flooded back to her about the first time she saw Xu Mo when he was brought back by their parents.
There were many people present, including police officers.
Xu Deming brought over a dark, thin little boy to introduce to them.
“This is your Fifth Sister, Xu Shuying. She’s a doctor,” he said to the boy.
The little boy was initially wary and unsure around others, but as soon as he saw her, his eyes lit up with excitement and vitality.
At that time, Xu Shuying didn’t understand what that meant. She simply shook his hand warmly, only to realize afterward that his hand was dirty, perhaps from nervousness, as it was drenched in sweat.
After shaking hands, Xu Shuying quickly withdrew her hand and wiped it with a tissue.
Later, Dad, Xu Deming, asked her to lead Xu Mo on a tour of their mansion.
“This is the kitchen, this is the garden, this is the backyard garage, this is the indoor theater, this is the second-floor KTV room, and this is the library…”
Coming from the humble orphanage to the opulent Xu mansion for the first time, the little boy was clearly overwhelmed and at a loss. It was as if he had stepped from a modest abode into a grand palace, his eyes wide with wonder, as if there was never enough to see.
Seeing this, Xu Shuying felt a sense of superiority, inwardly mocking him, considering him no different from a rustic.
Xu Mo seemed cautious and timid from the moment he entered the Xu mansion, as if afraid of breaking something or causing displeasure, unlike Xu Junzhe. It seemed growing up in the orphanage, he wasn’t fond of bathing and appeared frail. Xu Shuying didn’t feel inclined to get close to him either.
Every time he saw her, his eyes would light up, and Xu Shuying felt a sense of disgust, similar to how she felt about those pursuers.
That kind of look made her very uncomfortable!
Looking at these things now, Xu Shuying’s mind went blank.
She suddenly realized that Xu Mo wasn’t like those pursuers; Xu Mo was her own younger brother. As for Xu Mo knowing her since their time at the orphanage, she began to recollect some memories.
She had indeed gone to the East City Orphanage for charity!
“He hasn’t offended you, Xu Shuying!”
“He shouldn’t be condemned to death no matter what!”
“Why did you poison him?”
“They’re all dead, some died of rotten hearts, some of insanity, some just died! They’re all gone… completely gone.”
“They’ve all died, and I’m an orphan!”
The day Xu Mo emerged as the top scorer in the college entrance examination, they all went to see his interview. Hearing these words, Xie Bingyan, Xu Deming, and others were extremely angry.
She and Xu Manni were also very angry, believing that Xu Mo was cursing them to die, finding him extremely malicious.
However, considering all these things together, Xu Shuying felt her body go cold.
She felt chilled to the bone.
“He was poisoned… it’s a fact! The palladium powder… came from my laboratory! So, I…” Xu Shuying suddenly looked at Xu Wanting, her face pale, panic rising within her.
“Xu Mo knew he was poisoned! He probably knew the palladium powder was from you, so he must have thought you poisoned him!” Xu Wanting sniffed. “He must have thought you wanted to kill him!”
Xu Shuying nearly choked.
“Of course! He also thought it might be me and Xuehui! The last time I went to ask him if he knew about being poisoned, it turns out he already knew, but he didn’t say anything! He said it was me and Xuehui who poisoned him!” Xu Wanting’s eyes reddened, tears welling up.
She looked at Xu Shuying. “Do you know? Once, Xuehui was in the living room, and Fourth Younger Sister’s dog almost bit Xu Mo. Xu Mo, startled, pushed the dog, but ended up being forced by Fourth Younger Sister to apologize to the dog! There were many people in the living room at that time, Mom and Third Younger Brother were there, but not a single person spoke a fair word!”
Xu Shuying was stunned.
“Forced to apologize to the dog! Perhaps you all think it’s a trivial matter, not worth mentioning! Sibling quarrels may be like that! But Xu Shuying, your hatred and disgust are completely uncontrollable, none of us can control it!”
Xu Wanting burst into tears. “During this time, Second Sister and I have reviewed many of the things Xu Mo experienced in our home, each one more shocking than the last. No one in our family cared about him! Until now, no one has cared! Mom and Dad went on a trip, to Paris, they’re enjoying themselves abroad, but what about Xu Mo?”
“They didn’t even inform Xu Mo, knowing that he was the top scorer in the college entrance examination!”
Xu Wanting wiped away her tears and continued, “If it weren’t for accumulating enough disappointment and complete despair, Xu Mo wouldn’t have left our home. There’s a high chance he won’t come back now.”
Xu Shuying recalled Xu Mo’s financing of 100 Million.
She also remembered Jiang Pingting and some investors’ evaluations of Xu Mo. Director Tang from the hospital wanted to adopt Xu Mo but was rejected.
With so much weighing on her, Xu Shuying felt like she was almost suffocating.
“I… I’ve done a lot of things to hurt him!” Xu Shuying suddenly felt her throat dry. “Just a few days ago, I even scolded him…”
“We need to find out who poisoned Xu Mo! If it wasn’t you, then the next suspect would be Manni! Manni’s possibility of being the one who poisoned Xu Mo is very high; she has repeatedly tried to drive Xu Mo away,” Xu Wanting said. “Do you remember last year’s end-of-year trip? It was Manni who hid Xu Mo’s phone, preventing him from contacting us, not wanting him to come home!”
Xu Shuying was taken aback. “Third Elder Sister? Hid Xu Mo’s phone?”
“Exactly!” Xu Wanting nodded. “That day, we got home and realized Xu Mo hadn’t returned! None of us noticed him on the way back! You know what? We have almost ten people in our family, and not one of us remembered that he hadn’t come back! He walked alone for a long time before the police found him!”
“I don’t know what Xu Mo was thinking as he walked, but all I can imagine is coldness, icy coldness throughout his body, as if his blood had frozen solid! How could a family be so heartless?”
Xu Shuying didn’t know about Manni hiding the phone, but upon hearing this, she immediately recalled what happened last year, and she was stunned.
“Your Second Sister has also done a lot of things! She’s not much different from you! Or, you could say, we’re all in the same boat! Xu Mo has now come to hate us, completely!”
Xu Shuying didn’t know what to say. She recalled seeing Xu Mo a few days ago, and he indeed seemed sullen, not wanting to talk to her at all.
At that time, she was furious and wanted to reprimand him, but now she realized that if she had taken action then, Xu Mo probably wouldn’t have indulged her.
“Sister, Xu Mo’s bike-sharing project seems to be succeeding!” Xu Shuying spoke up after a moment of thought.
“Oh?”
“Yesterday, Jiang Pingting took him to attend a charity dinner, and he presented his proposal there. As a result, he secured angel investment of a hundred million!” Xu Shuying continued.
“What? A hundred million, for bike-sharing?” Xu Wanting had been busy investigating matters at home recently and hadn’t had time to look into Xu Mo’s affairs.
Xu Shuying nodded. “Yes! After Xu Mo left home, he seemed to be busy with a project called Shared Bike. He’s placed bikes all over the streets, even near our hospital! A few days ago, I thought he would fail, but I didn’t expect that some investors would see potential in him and invest a hundred million! Now, the value of his project has exceeded 1.5 billion!”
Xu Wanting widened her eyes slightly, stunned.
“I always thought he wouldn’t make it, that he was sure to fail. But I didn’t expect someone to believe in him! Also, Director Tang at our hospital wanted to adopt him as his son. Director Tang’s family has no children, but Xu Mo refused!” Xu Shuying continued.
Xu Wanting’s breathing became somewhat rapid, and she fell silent.
Suddenly, she slowly walked over to the computer and sat down, gazing out at the scenery outside.
After a moment of silence, she spoke softly, “Shuying, do you know? When Xu Mo found out I was his eldest sister, he always wanted to come to our company to see!”
“Oh?”
“But I never let him in! When he got to the entrance, I had the security guards chase him away! He always envied those who worked in buildings like this!” Xu Wanting spoke through tears.
“So now, he’s succeeded too!”
“He didn’t rely on any of us, didn’t rely on the Xu family. He proved his excellence with his own hands! He’s a genuine top scorer in the college entrance examination! He’s much more outstanding than you, than me, than any of us!”
“He’s only eighteen years old and has achieved what many people can’t achieve in a lifetime!”
Xu Shuying’s mouth opened in astonishment, wanting to say something, but suddenly found herself speechless.
“What exactly is the shared bike project? Tell me in detail,” Xu Wanting turned around, sniffing, tears streaking her delicate face. “Even though this worst and most heartless elder sister couldn’t offer him comfort and support when he needed it most, at least now, she knows she was wrong!”
