Chapter 160: What’s a Yandere?
Ye Wenxin was quite surprised and somewhat puzzled.
“These days have been suffocating for me, with all those people…” Ling Jue paused, not good at complaining and unwilling to vent her frustrations to Ye Wenxin. After some thought, she just held Ye Wenxin tightly, reluctant to speak about her recent unpleasant experiences.
“I often see you surrounded by a bunch of female cultivators,” Ye Wenxin said with a somewhat mischievous smile, remembering Ling Jue’s recent state.
In fact, these days she had a bit of a schadenfreude mentality, thinking about how a group of people only saw Ling Jue’s outer appearance but did not know what a beautiful and gentle woman Ling Jue was beneath the surface.
But seeing Ling Jue looking so exhausted, Ye Wenxin felt a pang of pity.
Living with a false facade was not easy for everyone.
“Aren’t you jealous, Little Sister Wenxin?” Ling Jue was somewhat dissatisfied, but she remembered that this was not the type of face Ye Wenxin liked, so she refrained from making more intimate moves.
“Why should I be jealous? Our agreement is still far from being fulfilled,” retorted Ye Wenxin with a laugh. The agreement could take hundreds of years to fulfill, and in that time, she might have already run away and ascended to immortality.
And when Ling Jue finally achieved her goal, Ye Wenxin would be waiting for her somewhere else, continuing the cycle of the unattainable agreement.
It was with such thoughts in mind, that Ye Wenxin dared to make the agreement.
“Little Sister Wenxin is really cunning, but I know I was too hasty.” Although somewhat dissatisfied, Ling Jue was not angry.
Once liking someone became a one-sided affair, all that remained was a long battle; she had confidence that one day Ye Wenxin would come to like her.
“Big Sister Ling, if you could fulfill our agreement, and I did start to like you, what would you want to do next?” Ye Wenxin could not help asking, flustered from receiving another confession, which had been even more assertive.
Ye Wenxin even suspected that she had somehow ended up in the channel of domineering CEOs; otherwise, why would people be disregarding her opinions entirely?
Ling Jue gently held Ye Wenxin’s hand, her eyes showing some confusion at Ye Wenxin’s question but also seeming to long for what lay ahead.
“Of course, I would resign as the Valley Master, travel the Martial World as a woman with you, and show off our happiness to the world.” As if imagining that scene, Ling Jue’s lips formed a slight smile, unable to restrain her longing for that kind of life.
“And mutually supporting each other?”
“You could say that, but my feelings might be better explained using medicine as an analogy.” Ling Jue pondered for a moment, and ultimately decided to express her future emotions using her expertise in pharmacology.
“I want to hold you in my hands and refine you into the most precious pill in the world.”
Ye Wenxin burst out laughing, finding Ling Jue’s declaration of love quite amusing.
“Then wouldn’t I melt?”
“That’s the point, so I can devour you.” Ling Jue laughed even harder, her eyes devoid of any hint of jesting. Ye Wenxin felt something was off.
“Big Sister Ling, I feel like you’re turning from a sickly type, to a yandere.” She felt Ling Jue was developing some strange attributes, but she seemed unable to stop her possessiveness.
“What is a yandere?”
However, Ling Jue, the non-Earthling, had no idea about Ye Wenxin’s current mindset. She saw Ye Wenxin finally smiling, and let out a quiet breath.
“I saw you weren’t in a good mood just now, so I ditched those women and came to find you. How about it, will my hug make you feel better?”
“Hmm, a ‘Big Sister’s’ hug would’ve been better.”
“Little Sister Wenxin is so mean; you know I can’t…” Ling Jue sighed helplessly. Only when it came to teasing her about her gender, she had no choice but to accept it and watch as Ye Wenxin showed disdain for her male guise.
“I’m running late; I have to go to my seat now. Good luck in the finals, Little Sister Wenxin.” Ling Jue looked at the rising smoke in the distance, and could not help but give Ye Wenxin some encouragement.
“Mm… See you later, Big Sister Ling.” Ye Wenxin could only watch Ling Jue walk further and further away like a sneaky thief, and she almost bumped into disciples from Medicine King Valley.
The scene was somewhat comical, but Ye Wenxin’s mood had improved considerably thanks to Ling Jue. Humming the tune of “Don’t Step on the Wildflowers by the Roadside”1, she strolled along the path to the venue, only to see a figure dressed in black, standing in the distance.
All dressed in black, they exuded a dangerous aura that defied description. Ye Wenxin took a quick glance and judged that the person was probably from a demon sect.
However, such a conspicuous display would likely end in a gruesome fate.
Ye Wenxin sighed inwardly, then sensed the black-clad figure approaching.
Taking a closer look, a woman’s face was hidden underneath; her complexion was somewhat pale, her breath unstable, as if she had suffered a serious injury. The face was somewhat familiar, but for the moment, Ye Wenxin could not recall where she had seen it before.
The black-clad woman just gave Ye Wenxin a fierce glare and quickly disappeared, bewildering her even more.
“Now these truly fearless types are popping up.” Ye Wenxin chuckled helplessly. Just as she took a few steps, she encountered Su Mei.
“What are you talking about, Miss Wenxin?” Su Mei continued to wear her friendly facade, trying to get closer to Ye Wenxin.
Today, she not only changed her appearance but also gave Ye Wenxin an illusion of simplicity. If Ye Wenxin had not already learned about Su Mei’s plan from Xiao Zhang, she might have thought that Su Mei genuinely believed in the suggestions she had made and reformed herself from head to toe.
It seemed that the current Su Mei, who was already quite plain-looking, had even more of a village girl vibe.
Gu Aotian was still following her as usual; their relationship was more like that of a servant and master than that of Dao companions. Su Mei thought of herself as a proud queen. Yesterday, she was quite pleased with herself after making a deal with Long Qingyue, but little did she know, it was all a trap.
Ye Wenxin also put on a smiling face while thinking about how to deal with Su Mei.
If she were to die immediately, that would be too easy.
She had seen many fleas like Su Mei, they were small-time villains who thought they could turn the tables; in the face of her and Long Qingyue, they were just clowns.
The two continued the usual exchange of pleasantries between cultivators, and the nearby Gu Aotian scratched his head, a little depressed that he could not join in.
Gu Aotian, who had been fairly normal in the early stages was reduced to this wishy-washy figure. Ye Wenxin felt like she really could seize luck, and that was why Ling Jue and Xiao Zhang fell for her, another woman.
If Gu Aotian’s luck were to return to what it was before, perhaps everything would change again.
Ye Wenxin was a bit guilty, and her eyes carried grandmotherly kindness as she watched Gu Aotian. However, Gu Aotian, completely oblivious to Ye Wenxin’s feelings, just smiled guilelessly. In order to avoid misunderstanding with Su Mei, he even intentionally provoked Ye Wenxin, almost making her want to strangle him, this useless male lead.
After some thought, Ye Wenxin still endured it, and stuck close to Su Mei, pretending to be deceived, to see how Su Mei would recommend her to Long Qingyue.
Su Mei added a lot of fun to the unchanging daily routine; precisely because she was the antagonist, so she enjoyed being nasty to people in various ways.
If Zhao Teddy had no lower bound, then Su Mei had no bottom line. As long as something or someone was beneficial to her, she would use them regardless of the consequences.
However, she had picked the wrong target.
In her mind, Ye Wenxin simulated a hundred ways Su Mei could die while chatting and laughing.
Meanwhile, the finals continued. To add more excitement, the first to compete were, surprising enough, elder-ranked cultivators.
The first match started with Jin Xiaoqin, an Azure Wings Sect elder who was also Gu Xiangsi’s master and a well-known figure among female cultivators.
Although lacking in appearance, her interrogation skills could be described as, indiscriminately ruthless. Ye Wenxin did not realize it before, but when she heard that Gu Xiangsi’s master was named Jin Xiaoqin, she finally understood why Gu Xiangsi had undergone such a significant transformation.
“Do you think Fairy Fengya will participate?”
“Heh, impossible. Look at how many months it’s been since Fairy Fengya took in Aotian, and we haven’t even glimpsed her shadow. Our Aotian is really pitiful.” Su Mei ruthlessly criticized Fairy Fengya, earning angry glares from some of her fans.
Everyone knew that Gu Aotian was Fairy Fengya’s only true disciple. Previously, they just felt disdainful, but now, seeing Gu Aotian mixed up with Su Mei and often engaging in shady activities, their disgust towards him had skyrocketed.
Gu Aotian lacked Su Mei’s cunning and means. He was a growth-type male lead, and all kinds of setbacks could actually help him succeed. But because of Su Mei’s presence, all of this vanished.
Seeing Su Mei standing up for him, Gu Aotian, who was already overwhelmed, was deeply moved, almost shedding tears.
“What a despicable woman!” Fatty could not stand it anymore and cursed quietly beside Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin listened with interest and looked at Fatty. “Aren’t you always fond of beautiful women? Su Mei isn’t bad, right?”
“But I judge based on both appearance and heart… Big Sister, you’re very busy, you don’t know how many times I’ve advised Aotian. He just refuses to leave that woman, and even wants to cut ties with me!” Fatty’s face was red with frustration, as if he wanted to punch Su Mei.
Fatty was also the only member of the Cozy Gang who advanced to the third round of the competition, which made Ye Wenxin very pleased with this supporting character’s dedication.
Ye Wenxin smiled gently, patted Fatty’s shoulder, and continued, “Don’t worry, I’ve looked at the match schedule, and you’re likely to face Su Mei.”
Ye Wenxin implied that Fatty should beat up Su Mei, and at first, Fatty was delighted, but then he showed a disappointed expression.
“But… I can’t beat her.”
“Hehehe, don’t forget what your Big Sister is best at.”
