Chapter 27: Old-Fashioned
Only now did Xu Yu clearly see the woman standing next to Qi Jun. She wore a well-tailored, body-hugging dress, her figure graceful and seductive, and her hair gently curled.
From time to time, the woman glanced around, her fair and delicate arm clinging to his, fully displaying a woman’s flirtation and affection toward a man.
Qi Jun didn’t push her away. Instead, he even lowered his head and said a few words to her.
Xu Yu stopped in her tracks and turned to Zhang Jiahua, saying, “Maybe we shouldn’t go over there…”
Lin Yiqiao sensed the gaze and turned her head for a quick look.
Zhang Jiahua looked puzzled and hadn’t fully understood what was going on when she locked eyes with Lin Yiqiao.
Whoa—she’s really pretty.
Zhang Jiahua didn’t have time to comment further. Pretending to be casually browsing, she pulled Xu Yu aside. “Is that your cousin’s older brother’s girlfriend?”
“I don’t know.” Xu Yu took another glance, and by now the two had already walked over to the display counter.
Lin Yiqiao had already let go of his arm, standing properly and politely.
The saleslady was very enthusiastic. “Comrades, are you here to buy a watch?”
“Mm. Help her pick one that suits her,” Qi Jun said.
There weren’t many watches in the cabinet, and even fewer women’s watches. The saleslady took them all out.
“Here, girl, let me help you try them on.” She reached for Lin Yiqiao’s hand.
Suddenly Lin Yiqiao remembered she still hadn’t taken off the diamond watch Qi Jun had just bought her. She glanced at him, and Qi Jun simply took her hand and began to carefully remove it for her.
The saleslady’s eyes widened when she saw the watch on her wrist—it was nothing like she’d seen before, clearly not something ordinary people could afford. A glance at the man’s wrist showed he had a similar one.
The man radiated authority and elite presence, while the woman was beautiful and charming. The saleslady kept her thoughts to herself and focused on helping Lin Yiqiao try the watches.
After wearing that diamond watch, the rest all felt a bit dull to Lin Yiqiao. “Gege (big brother), which one do you think looks best?”
Hearing her call him that, Qi Jun glanced at her. “This one.” He pointed and made the decision for her.
Lin Yiqiao didn’t argue. Wearing her new watch, she followed Qi Jun to the cashier to pay. Wherever he went, she followed.
Seeing her gaze at him so joyfully, Qi Jun reached out and pinched her cheek.
She followed him downstairs, obedient and sweet.
On the first floor was a clothing store, with rows of dresses hanging. At the front counter sat several salesladies, and people were lining up outside to buy. But to Lin Yiqiao, the dresses all looked a bit old-fashioned.
Qi Jun pulled her over by the arm. “See anything you like?”
She glanced at the saleslady, then leaned in close to his ear and whispered with a pout, “They’re all kind of ugly.”
Qi Jun ignored her and looked at a pink, mid-length dress, pointing at it. “Take that one down for us to try.”
“Comrade, this area is for browsing only—no trying on,” one saleslady said while chewing sunflower seeds.
Qi Jun frowned.
“This one’s great!” Lin Yiqiao quickly tugged his sleeve, spun in front of him, and said, “Just eyeball it. If you think it fits, it definitely does.”
She held up the dress with a smile, her eyes never leaving him, full of teasing affection.
Qi Jun looked at the little dimples she showed when smiling and didn’t say anything. Then, coming back to his senses, he said, “Alright, wrap it up for us.”
He paid directly and left with Lin Yiqiao.
Sitting in the front passenger seat, Lin Yiqiao hugged her new clothes and opened the package to look—yup, still old-fashioned.
“Today was so much fun,” she said, squinting with a smile, rubbing her head against Qi Jun’s side.
Qi Jun wrapped an arm around her waist. “As long as you’re happy.” His fingers gently touched the dimples on her cheeks. Lin Yiqiao felt ticklish and squirmed in his arms, giggling.
Outside, Xu Yu watched the Jeep drive off.
“If she really ends up becoming your sister-in-law, that would be one lucky woman,” Zhang Jiahua remarked beside her.
“I don’t think the Qi family would approve of someone like that. My almost-sister-in-law wasn’t like her at all. The Qi family picks daughters-in-law for their manners, looks, and proper character. A woman who’s not even married and already having a man buy her things? I don’t think that’s acceptable.”
Well, you’re not married into the family yet either, Zhang Jiahua thought but didn’t say. Noticing that Xu Yu seemed unhappy, she quickly changed her tone and said with a laugh, “That’s true—look at you, Xiao Yu. Just from your temperament alone, anyone can see how elegant and well-mannered you are. That’s exactly why the old madam of the Qi family likes you so much.”
Xu Yu withdrew her gaze. “I’ll go visit the old madam again in a couple of days.”
