Judging from the timestamp on her Moments, it just happened a couple of days ago.
“No way? There are really guys that blind?” Ning Wang leaned in to take a look too.
Even though Wen Jiu’s personality and looks weren’t his type, he wasn’t the kind to speak ill of someone just for the sake of it.
But when he saw the post on her Moments, he uncharacteristically went silent for a second.
“Damn, there really are people that blind.”
“So…” Qi Qin frowned, “Wen Jiu came to Hong Kong to heal from a breakup?”
Ning Wang nodded, “Probably.”
“Yan-ge!” Just a moment ago, he had been feeling oddly subdued, but now Qi Qin perked up with excitement. He stared at Jiang Yanci:
“Time to strike while she’s vulnerable, Yan-ge!”
Jiang Yanci: “…”
He couldn’t help but doubt himself. “Was I that obvious?”
“Not obvious at all,” Ning Wang patted him on the shoulder. “It’s just that ever since you saw Wen Jiu for the first time yesterday, you haven’t been able to look away.”
“And!” Qi Qin added with a squinty smile, “At the airport yesterday, you said she didn’t need our help, but you still contacted the person in charge there to make things easier for her.”
When Jiang Yanci said that, he had just sent a message.
Qi Qin, sharp-eyed as ever, caught sight of the message he’d just sent.
If yesterday’s actions could still be chalked up to a moment of kindness, then what he did today completely exceeded both of their expectations.
Because someone like Wen Jiu—who accepts every challenge and plays wild and free—is definitely not the type Jiang Yanci would normally give a second glance.
As soon as Wen Jiu appeared—even though there was a line of men around her too many to count—Jiang Yanci’s gaze still fell on her and lingered, unable to look away.
That was why Qi Qin suggested “borrowing” a seat from Wen Jiu, and why he stirred things up by encouraging her to play dice with Jiang Yanci.
The moment Jiang Yanci didn’t refuse, it confirmed their suspicions.
At the very least, to Jiang Yanci, Wen Jiu’s presence was something special.
Watching the two people in front of him making exaggerated expressions, Jiang Yanci shook his head helplessly, but didn’t deny it.
He had never been in a relationship before, but he knew well enough—his feelings for Wen Jiu definitely weren’t as simple as just wanting to be ordinary friends.
The uncontrollable pounding of his heart and the rising heat that burned within him were all reminders—this was a feeling he had never experienced before.
Wen Jiu… he murmured her name deep in his heart, and after a while, under the teasing gazes of Qi Qin and Ning Wang, the tips of his ears turned red.
“Don’t bother her,” his voice was a little hoarse, but it wasn’t hard to hear the good mood behind it.
Qi Qin and Ning Wang exchanged glances and nodded in agreement.
Ning Wang understood that emotions had to follow their natural course—too much outside interference could backfire.
And as for Qi Qin, he figured that as long as he didn’t bring up Jiang Yanci, asking Wen Jiu out to hang out wouldn’t really go against Jiang Yanci’s suggestion.
On the other side, ever since Wen Jiu left the bar, she had noticed several covert gazes tracking her movements. Strangely, before she could react, those eyes vanished without a trace.
She circled around the area a few times, and only after confirming that the watchers had indeed disappeared completely did she finally hail a cab back to the hotel.
After a quick wash, Wen Jiu took her phone and walked out to the hotel balcony.
The damp sea breeze blew directly toward her, stirring the silk nightdress draped over her body, brushing against her smooth, fair legs.
Reclining on the rocking chair, Wen Jiu opened her chat app and began replying to messages.
Upon receiving her message, Gu Xiao instantly sat up from bed:
[Jiujiu, are you done for the night]
Wen Jiu: [Mm, what’s wrong?]
Gu Xiao, thinking about what happened earlier that day, replied honestly: [All the photos and videos of Jian Yue and Lin Anlan on the campus network are gone. He probably got someone to delete them.]
[Besides that—]
Gu Xiao sent over a photo and continued: [Jian Yue posted on the campus network saying that what happened with Lin Anlan was just a misunderstanding, and that your relationship is still strong, that you haven’t broken up. A lot of people seem to believe it.]
The two of you grew up together as childhood sweethearts and have been dating for years. On top of that, your looks, family background, and capabilities are evenly matched—so in the eyes of people at Jing University, you two are a perfect match made in heaven.
The photo that appeared on Wen Jiu’s Moments that day caused quite a stir—many people didn’t believe it, thinking someone had deliberately photo shopped it to stir up trouble.
The next day, Jian Yue released a statement, and after that, more people started to believe that he and Wen Jiu hadn’t broken up.
Gu Xiao sent over a photo—
A screenshot of Jian Yue’s statement. The content read:
It was a short statement, but so firm and righteous that no one could find fault with it.
Wen Jiu curled her lips slightly and replied to Gu Xiao, “[Got it, thanks.]” Then she opened the campus forum.
Because of its popularity, Jian Yue’s post was still at the top, so Wen Jiu didn’t even need to search — she found it right away.
She clicked into the comment section and directly typed a line:
“[I’m currently single. The claim that Jian Yue and I are in a stable relationship is pure fabrication on his part. Also, the photo and video of Jian Yue and Lin Anlan romantically hugging in the rain were originally leaked by me. Polite blessings to both of you — may you be locked in for life.]”
After posting the comment, Wen Jiu copied it and shared it on her own profile page as well, even tagging Jian Yue and Lin Anlan.
Once that was done, Wen Jiu, feeling refreshed, played on her phone for a bit before heading back to her room to sleep.
Since Jian Yue was so eager to disgust her, there was no need for her to be polite.
At the same time, seeing Wen Jiu’s reply made Jian Yue’s face darken instantly.
He immediately opened the private chat page with Wen Jiu on the campus network.
[Jiu Jiu, where are you? Do you really have to be this heartless?]
[For the sake of all the years we’ve been together, please give me a chance to explain, okay?]
He waited for a long time, but Jian Yue still didn’t get any reply from Wen Jiu.
Feeling heartbroken and helpless, he slumped against the sofa, downed the drink on the table in one go, and sent another message to Wen Jiu.
[It’s fine if you don’t want to meet. Can I at least explain things to you now?]
[“The only reason Lin Anlan existed was because I wanted to make you jealous. I just wanted you to care about me a little more. The closest I’ve ever been to her was that hug the other day. Jiujiu, I only love you, truly only you.”]
[“Jiujiu, I just wanted you to throw a little tantrum. I never thought about breaking up with you. Can you please not be so cruel as to leave me?”]
After sending this message, Jian Yue collapsed helplessly from the couch onto the carpet. His bloodshot eyes brimmed with tears.
He had no idea which faction had interfered, but he couldn’t track down where Wen Jiu was now.
She disappeared from his life without giving him even a moment to catch his breath.
Jian Yue admitted it—he was in pain. Constantly. It felt like a chunk of his heart was missing, leaving everything he did feeling hollow and meaningless.
The only thing that kept him going was scrolling through his chat history with Wen Jiu, clinging to that sliver of hope while waiting—hoping that in the very next second, a message from her would appear.
He thought even If Wen Jiu yelled at him or hit him, it would be better than this—this complete silence.
But when he finally did receive a message from her, cold and heartless, it was like a knife twisting in his chest.
Jian Yue closed his eyes, and tears slid down his cheeks, sinking into the carpet.
He truly knew he was wrong.
Why couldn’t she just soften her heart toward him a little… just a little?
The Wen Jiu who once loved him so much…
