Natural Disasters Sweep the World: While Everyone Escapes, I Have Billions in Supplies Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Stockpiling

Jiang Si used her mind to measure the height of the space. It was roughly 10 meters tall. If packed tightly, even with just one mu of land (about 1/6 of an acre), it could hold a lot of supplies.

A sudden thought occurred—she could breathe inside the space. Could she farm and raise animals in it? Could she bring her family into the space to hide from the apocalypse?

After the apocalypse, much of the land was polluted. Even if you found clean soil to grow food on, it would be eyed by others, and various natural disasters could still destroy your crops.

If her whole family could live safely in this space, they wouldn’t need to fear anything.

To test it, Jiang Si brought in a hydroponic pothos plant and an apple.

The pothos remained just as it was outside—still alive and continuing to grow.

She cut the apple in half, and after a while, it began to oxidize, which meant that time flowed the same in the space as in the outside world.

Then she ran downstairs and caught two flies from the trash.

But the flies couldn’t be brought into the space—they weren’t controlled by her thoughts and were completely blocked.

Disappointed, Jiang Si went to the garden and tried bringing in an ant colony. But no matter how she tried, it didn’t work.

Living creatures other than herself couldn’t enter the space.
Also, food couldn’t be stored long-term.

The good news: she could grow crops. With careful planning, one mu of land might just be enough to feed her whole family.

But that meant there was no extra room to store survival supplies.

Jiang Si searched online for vertical farming techniques developed in Japan.

All she needed to do was purchase industrial vertical farming equipment, which allowed for stacked growing platforms and adjustable lighting angles. It made harvesting easy and saved space.

The integrated system of fertilizer recycling and drainage made it easy to maintain and clean.

Over 20 different vegetables could be grown simultaneously using the same environmental controls and nutrient solutions.

From seed to harvest took only 42 days.

Even rice could be grown this way, with three harvests per year.

The cultivation racks could be stacked high, and with just half a mu of land, she could achieve complete self-sufficiency in both vegetables and grains.

S City was the most modernized metropolis in China, and one of these companies had its “Urban Farm” showroom right nearby.

When Jiang Si entered, she was immediately captivated by the lively, green-filled office building.

In the café and workspace alike, plants and vegetables were everywhere—it truly felt like being on a farm.

After touring the rice fields and vegetable gardens, Jiang Si found the person in charge and asked,
“I want to buy a batch of your company’s equipment. Do I have to use your seeds and soil?”

The manager smiled, “Our vertical farming system works with any seeds, soil, and fertilizer. Of course, our own seeds are better—they’re carefully cultivated for higher quality and better flavor.”

Jiang Si asked, “What’s the rice yield like?”

The manager replied confidently, “Maximum yield per mu is about 1,000 jin (500 kg).

Jiang Si nodded. She’d rather use domestic hybrid rice—it could yield 2,000 to 3,000 jin per mu.

She calculated the height and area of her space, then estimated how many racks could fit in half a mu.
“I’ll take six sets of your vertical growing units. Can you deliver them tomorrow?”

In an expensive urban area, not many wealthy people were buying farming setups.

So when Jiang Si ordered six units at once, the manager was thrilled.
“We just happen to have six in stock. We’ll send someone tomorrow for delivery and installation.”

Jiang Si said, “I’ll pay now. I’ll send you the address shortly.”

The six vertical systems cost her 1.8 million yuan in total.
The manager also gifted her many vegetable seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools.

Jiang Si then went to the outskirts and rented two warehouses—one for assembling the equipment, and another for storing survival supplies, as a cover.

In the apocalypse, without electricity, modern devices became scrap metal. Heating, lighting, and cooking all required braving the dangers of going outside.

So Jiang Si bought a large industrial generator, a solar generator, and 1,000 barrels of fuel.

She knew the global blackout began on June 1st, and the electromagnetic field wouldn’t recover for half a year—only then would generators work again.

But inside her space, they might work normally.

She had now spent two-thirds of her 3 million yuan.

She still wanted to buy a fully-equipped RV and a luxury rescue yacht.

Ordinary ones weren’t durable enough to withstand solar radiation and extreme heat.

A high-end model big enough for her family of seven would cost at least a million yuan each.

She didn’t have that kind of money, so she chose to rent instead.

It wasn’t exactly honest, but she had no choice.

That night, she contacted a leasing company and selected the most luxurious options.
The RV and yacht together cost 800,000 yuan, but since her rental term was long, she got a discount and paid 700,000 yuan, including handling and deposit fees.

Now, she only had 300,000 yuan left.

She also wanted to rent a small helicopter. Even the cheapest one that could hold seven people cost 500,000 yuan per month.

When disasters suddenly struck, not having a helicopter made survival much harder.

She had to find more money. And fast.
There was still so much she hadn’t bought.

Jiang Si opened WeChat and messaged the manager of her extreme sports club:

“Mr. Zhang, I’m resigning. Can I get my deposit back tomorrow?”

Her grandfather, Jiang Zhenwu, was a retired soldier and had raised her since she was young.
Brave and adventurous, she had become a coach at an extreme sports club, where she could earn money and live on the edge.

When taking on clients at the club, 20% of the fee would be held as a deposit, which would be refunded when leaving.

Since graduating two years ago, she’d worked there full-time and had accumulated 260,000 yuan in deposit.

In her previous life, when the power went out and transfers failed, Mr. Zhang had distributed gold bars to employees instead.

Those gold bars had helped her survive in the early days of the apocalypse.

Mr. Zhang quickly replied,

“Why are you resigning all of a sudden?”

Female coaches were hard to train, and she was one of the best.

Jiang Si replied:

“My family’s worried. They don’t want me doing such dangerous work anymore, so I’m quitting.”

It was normal for a girl’s family to worry.

Mr. Zhang didn’t ask further.

“Come to the club tomorrow to handle the paperwork. I’ll transfer the money in the afternoon.”

“Thanks, Mr. Zhang.”

After hanging up, Jiang Si immediately began organizing all her existing outdoor gear:

  • Polar expedition suit
  • First aid kit
  • Tent
  • Paraglider
  • Wingsuit
  • Diving suit
  • Goggles
  • Oxygen tank
  • Climbing rope
  • Mummy sleeping bag
  • Anti-slip gloves
  • Waterproof low-power flashlight
  • Compass
  • Thermometer
  • Detector
  • Magnifying glass
  • Whistle
  • Hunting knife
  • Military shovel
  • Multi-purpose survival axe
  • Emergency manual
  • Solar charger
  • Flint
  • Life vest
  • Raincoat…

In the basement storage, there were also jet skis, inflatable rafts, and mountain bikes—all provided by the club.

Her gear was already pretty complete. Tomorrow, when she visited the club, she could get another full set for her family.
