Chapter 28: It’s an Eyesore to Keep—Might as Well Throw It Away
Ruan Liuzheng poured the soup she had made into a thermal container, then drove to the hospital.
By the time she arrived, it was nearly eleven o’clock.
The hospital parking lot was rather quiet. After calling Ye Shutong to get the room number, she took the elevator straight to the top floor.
“Liuzheng!”
Ye Shutong had stepped out of her room to wait by the elevator the moment she got Ruan Liuzheng’s call.
Seeing her now, she called out happily.
Ruan Liuzheng’s lips curved slightly, a faint smile softening her otherwise cool expression.
She quickly stepped out of the elevator, eyes filled with concern. “Shutong, where are you hurt? Is it serious?”
Ye Shutong wrapped her arm around Ruan Liuzheng’s and shook her head. “It’s nothing, just a small injury. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to worry. Come, I’ll take you to my room.”
Ruan Liuzheng nodded.
She adjusted her position and reached out to support Ye Shutong.
Even though Shutong said it wasn’t serious, Ruan Liuzheng couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy.
When they arrived at the hospital room, it was empty.
Only a few unopened plastic food containers sat on the coffee table in the middle of the room.
They must be the lunch Ye Shutong’s assistant had brought.
“I kicked everyone out just for you. Touched yet?”
Ye Shutong sat down on the sofa and explained proudly.
Her chin lifted with a smug look, clearly fishing for praise.
Ruan Liuzheng smiled, eyes curving slightly, and sat down beside her.
She placed the thermal food container on the table and nodded. “I made your favorite—corn and pork rib soup. Eat before it gets cold.”
“Mmm~”
Ye Shutong’s eyes lit up, and she suddenly threw herself into Ruan Liuzheng’s arms, moved to the brink of tears. “Liuzheng, you’re the best! Fu Yanci is so lucky to have you!”
She hugged Ruan Liuzheng tightly, nuzzling her affectionately. Then, as if remembering something, she sat up, grabbed her purse, and took out a small, elegant box to hand over.
“Here. This is what you asked me to buy. I went through hell and high water to get it.”
Ruan Liuzheng looked at the blue velvet box in Ye Shutong’s hand, and a hint of darkness flickered in her eyes.
It was a product from a niche foreign brand—not well-known, but with a distinct, refined design style.
Fu Yanci loved collecting watches. He even had a custom glass cabinet built specifically to display his collection.
He had practically bought out every major luxury brand, domestic and international.
With his birthday coming up, Ruan Liuzheng had wanted to give him something different.
After researching for a long time, she found this unique brand. Since Ye Shutong was going to that country for filming, she’d asked her to bring one back.
But now…
Ruan Liuzheng gave a mocking twist of her lips. She took the velvet box, didn’t even open it, and tossed it directly into the trash can nearby.
“Liuzheng!” Ye Shutong was shocked, her voice rising slightly. “Wasn’t that the birthday gift for Fu Yanci? Why’d you throw it out?!”
Ruan Liuzheng’s expression didn’t change. She lowered her gaze and spoke calmly, “I’m planning to divorce Fu Yanci. Keeping this is just an eyesore—better to throw it away.”
“Divorce? You’re really going through with it?”
Ye Shutong stood up in disbelief, eyes wide with shock.
But deep in her gaze, there was a trace of delight.
As Ruan Liuzheng’s best friend, she knew everything about her and Fu Yanci.
And ever since Fu Yanci had cheated and fallen for that manipulative little white flower Bai Wanqing, Ye Shutong had advised her to leave him—many times.
But Ruan Liuzheng was stubborn. Once she loved someone, she wouldn’t easily let go. She’d always clung to hope.
Ye Shutong had been helpless, watching her best friend get hurt over and over again, unable to stop it.
She’d held back her advice for fear of damaging their friendship.
Sometimes, Ruan Liuzheng really was too obsessed.
“Mhm. I just feel like… there’s no point in holding on anymore.”
Ruan Liuzheng nodded firmly. Her cool voice carried a sense of relief.
Seeing her like this, Ye Shutong paused, slowly calming down.
She bit her lip, sat back down, and asked with concern, “Did Fu Yanci do something again to upset you? Why did you suddenly decide to divorce him?”
Ruan Liuzheng let out a soft laugh and shook her head at her friend’s worried gaze. “Not exactly suddenly. I just… saw things clearly all of a sudden. I don’t want to keep being stupid.”
She said it casually, but Ye Shutong felt a pang in her chest.
To give up someone she had loved for so long—it couldn’t have been easy.
Still, Ye Shutong didn’t press. She just hugged Ruan Liuzheng tightly, saying nothing more.
She knew her friend’s personality—her pride and her resolve.
Pushing any further would only reopen her wounds.
She offered comfort instead. “It’s okay, Liuzheng. It’s just a man. Divorce him if you want to. Three-legged toads are hard to find, but two-legged men are everywhere.”
“Trust me—the next one will be even better!”
Ruan Liuzheng looked down and smiled faintly. “Alright. Now eat. I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Ye Shutong nodded. “Okay.”
…
Meanwhile, in Bai Wanqing’s hospital room—
Fu Yanci had been busy all morning but had finally freed up time for lunch.
He arrived at the hospital, planning to have lunch with Bai Wanqing. But as soon as he walked in, he was met with a cold stare from his friend Shi Mufeng.
Fu Yanci paused, the smile on his face freezing momentarily, but quickly recovered and walked into the room as if nothing was wrong.
“When did you get back?” he asked.
Shi Mufeng sat by Bai Wanqing’s bed and paused briefly before replying, “Two days ago.”
Fu Yanci nodded and said no more.
He walked to the other side of Bai Wanqing’s bed, his expression warm. “How are you feeling today? Any better?”
Bai Wanqing smiled gently, her face still a bit pale. “Much better. Yanci-ge, if the company’s busy, you don’t have to come every day.”
“I don’t want to delay your work because of me.”
Fu Yanci smiled softly and took her hand, his deep eyes tender. “Wanqing, no work is more important than you.”
“Yanci-ge…”
Bai Wanqing lowered her head shyly, a blush coloring her cheeks.
Fu Yanci’s gaze darkened. He raised his hand to pull her into his arms.
Just then, Shi Mufeng finally had enough.
He cleared his throat and interrupted, “Yanci, come out with me for a moment. I need to talk to you.”
Fu Yanci froze slightly, lips tightening in displeasure.
But seeing Shi Mufeng’s serious expression, he nodded and followed him out of the room.
