Chapter 19: Commander Fu Becomes a Shameless Homewrecker for Love

To avoid being consumed by hatred, Li Zhi threw herself completely into her studies.

There was still over a month before the new school term began, and many students had already started self-studying to avoid falling behind when classes resumed.

After taking her college entrance exam last July, Li Zhi hadn’t touched a book in over a year, devoting herself entirely to Lu Yanzhi. A year had passed, and she’d forgotten most of what she had learned. Now, she had to start from scratch—requiring much more time and effort than others. She had to race against the clock to review everything within a month.

Since there was no learning environment at home, she took her textbooks to the largest library in Yangcheng to study.

Meanwhile, across the street from the library at a café—

Fu Tingzhou asked the man beside him, “Why did you drag me along on your blind date?”

“To help me draw fire, of course. You’re good-looking. Just by sitting here, you’ll make sure no woman takes a liking to me.”

Heaven knows how terrifying his parents were—if any woman showed even the slightest interest in him, they’d immediately start asking around for her address and rush over to her house to arrange a marriage.

There had been times he was so scared he fled back to the army overnight.

Fu Tingzhou frowned. “Ridiculous. If you don’t want to go on blind dates, just say no. Using me as your human shield is irresponsible.”

“I’m just joking, don’t get mad. Most of these girls are just here to go through the motions—they’re not serious.”

“I’ve got something to do. I’ll head out first.”

He planned to walk around near the Li household—maybe he’d bump into Li Zhi.

Suddenly, Zhou Yufeng pointed toward the door behind him. “Wait, look over there.”

“That’s the Li Zhi you’ve been dreaming about.”

Li Zhi had just walked to the entrance, coffee in hand, heading toward the library.

She wore a knit top and wide-legged flared pants—clean and neat—with a backpack on her back. It wasn’t hard to guess she was going to study.

Fu Tingzhou had just stood up to chase after her but stopped. It would be rude to interrupt her studies now. He decided to wait until she came out.

“Oh right, I forgot to tell you—last night Yanzhi came to me. He asked what kind of relationship you have with Li Zhi. Said you hugged her last night or something? Impressive, huh?”

Under the table, Fu Tingzhou kicked him. “Keep your voice down.”

The café was fairly empty that morning—just a few people chatting quietly at scattered tables. As long as they kept their voices low, no one would overhear.

Zhou Yufeng nodded repeatedly. “Okay, okay, I’ll keep it down. But judging from your reaction, something did happen, right? So… are you guys dating now? Be honest, man.”

“No. She ran into trouble, I got rid of the bad guy, and she was so scared she hugged me.”

“I see. Well, Yanzhi came to me last night, asked what was going on between you two. I told him there was nothing. He also asked for your address. He looked pissed—like he was ready to fight you. I didn’t tell him.”

Fu Tingzhou tapped his fingers rhythmically on the table, the corner of his lips lifting into a cold smirk. “The Li family is determined to cancel the engagement. There’s no chance of reconciliation. If he asks you again, tell him to give up.”

Zhou Yufeng’s peach blossom eyes widened. “Are you crazy? If I tell him to give up, that confirms you’re the third wheel! He’s not even officially dumped yet—you’re literally the side piece, and not even subtle about it. Warning the ‘main’ woman like you’re some legit boyfriend… You know what that’s called? That’s a homewrecker’s status with a wife’s attitude—acting like a courtesan but expecting wifely respect. Aren’t you afraid of getting your ass kicked?”

Fu Tingzhou calmly rubbed the rim of his coffee cup, eyes narrowing. “Afraid? If he wants to fight, I’ll be happy to oblige.”

Over the past few days, he’d heard from Zhou Yufeng all about how much Li Zhi had sacrificed for Lu Yanzhi and the Lu family.

And in return, she got betrayal and heartbreak.

Fu Tingzhou wasn’t afraid of Lu Yanzhi starting a fight—he hoped he would.

He’d been wanting to teach that guy a lesson on Li Zhi’s behalf.

Zhou Yufeng gave him a big thumbs-up. “Old Fu, you’re something else—becoming a third wheel for love and being so damn arrogant about it. You’re a legend!”

He had never seen such a bold homewrecker before.

Today was a real eye-opener.

Then again, Fu Tingzhou had every right to be arrogant—his looks, height, strength, and family background all crushed Lu Yanzhi. There was no comparison.

They chatted for over an hour when Zhou Yufeng’s blind date finally arrived.

She looked to be about twenty, with a neat short haircut and big, bright eyes. Her fair skin seemed soft enough to squeeze water from, and when she smiled, two dimples appeared. She was very pretty, dressed in a more androgynous style, giving off a tomboyish vibe.

Seeing two handsome men sitting there, she got excited.

Wait, were both of them her blind dates?

The matchmaker didn’t say anything about that!

She walked over and asked, “Hi, I’m Wang Jingyi. Are you both here for the blind date?”

“I’m Zhou Yufeng,” he replied.

“Perfect,” she said, and sat down.

Out of politeness, Zhou Yufeng asked, “Comrade Wang, would you like something to drink? I’ll go order it for you.”

But Wang Jingyi’s eyes were glued to Fu Tingzhou’s face—she didn’t even hear what Zhou Yufeng said.

This man was so handsome. Exactly her type.

Long brow bones, sword-like eyebrows, starry eyes, high-bridged nose, sharp jawline—both his bone structure and skin were top-tier. His military uniform highlighted his tall, straight figure. He exuded a restrained but intense masculine charm—imposing, but not scary. In fact, it made her want to know him more.

Even sitting down, she could tell he was over 185 cm tall—her ideal type in every way.

If she could marry a guy like him, maybe marriage wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Zhou Yufeng had to repeat his question twice before she snapped out of it. “Huh? What did you say just now?”

“I asked if you’d like something to drink.”

Zhou Yufeng could tell she was already smitten with Fu Tingzhou. Dodged a bullet today!

From now on, he’d always bring Old Fu along for blind dates. Genius!

Wang Jingyi smiled. “A milk coffee, please. Thank you!”

“Alright, I’ll go order.” Zhou Yufeng stood up and walked off.

Finally, it was quiet.

That guy talks way too much. Buzzing nonstop—so annoying.

This quiet, handsome guy was much better.

Wang Jingyi reached out her hand and said, “Hi, I’m Wang Jingyi. What’s your name?”

“Fu Tingzhou.” He shook her hand briefly and let go. Then, politely clarified, “He’s your blind date—I’m just his comrade, here to accompany him.”

Wang Jingyi looked a bit disappointed. “Ah, not you? I thought both of you were.”

But even his voice was nice—low, magnetic, and crisp.

Zhou Yufeng returned with the drinks and overheard her last sentence. “Wait, what do you mean both of us?”

Wang Jingyi explained, “I thought you were both here to go on a blind date with me.”

Fu Tingzhou’s gaze drifted across the street to the library entrance.

He was afraid of missing Li Zhi—Yangcheng was huge. Running into her yesterday had been a fluke.

But seeing her again today—that was fate. He had to seize the opportunity.

Wang Jingyi and Zhou Yufeng chatted casually. Both extroverts, they quickly warmed up to each other. She even started calling him “Brother Zhou.”

After a while, she couldn’t resist asking quietly, “Brother Zhou, does Commander Fu have a girlfriend?”

“You mean a girlfriend?” Zhou Yufeng could tell she was interested.

He doesn’t, but he likes someone. Does that count?

“What’s your plan? You want to chase him?”

Wang Jingyi boldly admitted, “Yes. He’s handsome—I want to pursue him.”

Her personality was straightforward, unfiltered.

Zhou Yufeng hesitated, then leaned in and whispered behind his hand, “Old Fu has a girlfriend.”

To avoid complications, he told a tiny lie.

Wang Jingyi didn’t believe him. “No way. Look at you stuttering—you’re totally lying. If he doesn’t have a girlfriend, can I chase him?”

She had failed her college entrance exam this year—not even qualifying for a vocational college.

Her family gave her two options: one, go on blind dates and get married; two, repeat the year and retake the exam.

Why not work?

Because she had tried and hated it. The lack of freedom wasn’t for her—she valued independence.

After more than ten failed blind dates with no one she found attractive, Fu Tingzhou was the first man who ticked every box. She really liked him.

If she could marry someone like him, she might actually give it a shot.

Zhou Yufeng didn’t want to commit. “It’s true. As for whether you can pursue him… ask him yourself.”

Fu Tingzhou spotted a familiar petite figure through the window.

She was buried in her notes, writing diligently and completely focused.

Zhou Yufeng nudged him with his elbow. “Old Fu, she’s asking if you have a girlfriend. If not, she wants to chase you.”

Then he leaned in to whisper: “She said she likes you and wants to pursue you. To save you the trouble, I told her you already have a girlfriend. Please don’t blow my cover.”

Wang Jingyi wasn’t dumb. Seeing them whispering like that, she was convinced. “I don’t believe it unless I see it for myself. Commander Fu, I want to pursue you—please give me a chance.”

Fu Tingzhou’s brows furrowed slightly—he was about to politely decline.

But Zhou Yufeng beat him to it. “He really does have a girlfriend. She’s at the library across the street. Want me to go get her?”

Just then, Fu Tingzhou also spotted Li Zhi standing at the library entrance.

It was almost noon—she was probably heading out for lunch.
