Chapter 39: Teasing Him

Shopkeeper Xu instantly beamed with joy, handed the contract to Su Wan and stroked his mustache. “Before you teach them, could you come by during lunch and dinner times?”

“Sure.” Su Wan put the contract into her sleeve pocket and instructed, “You should post a hiring notice now. Hire four or five chefs, and I’ll start teaching them tomorrow.”

“Alright.” Shopkeeper Xu settled the payment for the pork belly with Su Wan, then picked up his pen to write the notice.

Su Wan had someone in mind. Mother Gu’s cooking skills were quite good, and it would be even better if she came to the restaurant.

She hadn’t yet asked Mother Gu about her willingness, so she wasn’t sure how to bring it up.

When Su Wan looked up, she saw the two little ones standing beside her. She pinched their cheeks and asked, “Have you eaten?”

“Brother Jiang made food for us. We’ve eaten,” Gu Baozhu whispered in Su Wan’s ear to share a secret. “Sister-in-law, big brother bought you a roast duck.”

Su Wan looked at Gu Huaizhi in surprise.

Gu Huaizhi noticed her gaze and walked over.

“Big brother was just secretly… ah…” Gu Baozhu started to speak but was cut off when a hand grabbed her by the collar, lifting her like a little chick and setting her aside.

“Big Brother!” Gu Baozhu complained pitifully.

Gu Huaizhi glanced at her indifferently.

And Gu Baozhu pouted then lowered her head.

A hint of helplessness flashed in Gu Huaizhi’s eyes. He cleared his throat softly, the sunlight highlighting his gentle features, and asked Su Wan in a low voice, “Are you done?”

Su Wan nodded. “Let’s go.”

They all left the restaurant together. Su Wan took them to a clothing shop, buying two sets of clothes and two pairs of small cloth shoes each for Gu Baozhu and Gu Jingyun.

Su Wan recalled Mother Gu’s physique, then picked out one dark-colored and one bright-colored outfit for her, and placed everything on the counter.

When paying, Su Wan paused, her gaze falling on a light blue and a bamboo green long robe. After hesitating for a moment, and remembering that Gu Huaizhi had bought her a roast duck, she decided to buy these two robes as well.

The two little ones’ eyes lit up instantly, happier than if the clothes were for themselves!

Su Wan handed all the bags to Gu Huaizhi, then went to hire a carriage.

Once everyone was on the carriage, Su Wan felt exhausted, then she leaned against the carriage wall.

Gu Baozhu handed Su Wan a cup of white beans jelly. “Sister-in-law, drink some to cool down.”

“Thank you, Baozhu!” Su Wan took a bite of the white beans jelly, the coolness spreading through her body, refreshing her.

She glanced sideways at Gu Huaizhi, and extended her slender hand. “Where’s the roast duck?”

Gu Huaizhi put down the bags he was holding, fixed his dark eyes on Su Wan. Noticing her tiredness, he took out a roast duck and handed it to her.

The aroma of the crispy duck skin made Su Wan’s stomach growl.

She was about to thank him.

Gu Huaizhi said flatly, “It’s from the restaurant.”

“I know.” Su Wan tore off a duck wing and took a bite, her eyes curving into a smile like a little fox, and emphasized deliberately, “You wouldn’t go out of your way to buy me a duck from a roast duck shop.”

Gu Huaizhi’s chest tightened, and his thin lips pressed into a hard line.

The restaurant didn’t have roast duck today.

She knew that perfectly well and was teasing him on purpose.

Seeing him flustered made Su Wan even happier.

Denial is a disease that needs curing!

The two little ones swung their legs, pretending not to understand the conversation, secretly amused.

The carriage stopped, and Gu Huaizhi got off first, carrying the bags.

Suddenly, he stopped, and looked at the man standing at the entrance.
