Chapter 51 – Dealing with the Scarred Man
“Yuan-jie, I was so scared just now. There were so many people—what will they do to Sun Yian?”
Jiang Yuan shook her head and looked at Ye Mianmian. This girl truly underestimated human nature.
“Mianmian, you need to understand—the scariest thing in this world is the human heart. When people go mad, there’s nothing they won’t do.
But Sun Yian isn’t some weakling either. Let’s just see whose methods are more ruthless.”
Ye Mianmian sighed. She wasn’t as fragile as people imagined.
“Yuan-jie, I get it. I grew up with my grandma, and in the village, there were plenty of nasty things. People who lived next door for over thirty years stopped talking to each other over a single egg or a vegetable.
And after I started working—as a livestreamer, it looks glamorous on the outside, but behind the scenes it’s a total mess.
It only got a little better later, because my boss here is a woman.”
Jiang Yuan now roughly understood Ye Mianmian’s background. Someone with that kind of upbringing naturally understood more about the way the world worked.
“Mianmian, you’re so pretty—I thought you were like a delicate flower in a greenhouse. I didn’t expect you to be so wise to the ways of the world.”
“After enough life experience, you just learn…”
The two exchanged glances and gave a bitter smile.
“Big sisters, let’s hurry and sort out the supplies, then divide them. I’m worried the longer we wait, the more things can go wrong.”
“Right, let’s get moving.”
Song Yi and Zhang Kaiyang hadn’t stopped moving since they returned, and now all five of them got busy.
“Mianmian, do you live with your grandma now?”
“Yeah, why? Yuan-jie?”
“Nothing. It’s just so cold these days. Make sure to keep warm. We can’t go to hospitals anymore, so getting sick would be a big problem.”
“Thank you, Yuan-jie. I understand.”
The two stopped chatting and focused on the task at hand.
With the first batch of supplies added, Zhang Kaiyang’s living room was almost full.
Thankfully, they had sorted everything into batches beforehand. Each box was marked with a number:
① for Song Yi, ② for Jiang Yuan, ③ for Ye Mianmian, and ④ for Zhang Kaiyang.
As for the rest, they just had to lay it all out, but it wasn’t too troublesome.
They opened bag after bag—if the contents could be split evenly four ways, they did so. If not, they moved on to the next bag until they could balance everything.
This method didn’t take up too much space, and all four people could see everything clearly. It worked out well.
Since Jiang Yuan was worried about Qin Yue being home alone, she had Jiang Xingzhi go back first and bring two boxes of supplies with him.
At this hour, most people were still busy and wouldn’t notice.
They agreed he’d message once he got home, and only then did Jiang Yuan join the rest in dividing up the goods.
Very soon, everything was sorted.
What was left over wasn’t much—just odds and ends that couldn’t be split evenly.
“Let’s give these to Song Yi—he provided the kayak and the fuel…”
Jiang Yuan suggested, and the others immediately agreed.
“No need, we should just split everything equally.”
He spoke calmly, as if he didn’t really care.
“The kayak aside, the gasoline is really important. You should take a bit more. Just accept it.”
“Yeah, Brother Song, you deserve it.”
After this trip, Zhang Kaiyang fully realized how strong Song Yi was in combat. If it weren’t for him, they might not have made it back at all.
What’s a bit of extra stuff, really?
Besides, he definitely contributed more than anyone else.
“Brother Song, take it. Fair is fair…”
“Alright then.”
Seeing everyone insist, Song Yi didn’t refuse.
With the supplies divided, the next task was transport.
Ye Mianmian lived on the 11th floor, so they decided to deliver hers first. Then it would be Song Yi and Jiang Yuan’s turn.
The elevator was out of order, which made things extremely inconvenient.
And all four of them had been working nonstop for a full day and night. Even after another half day today, they were completely exhausted.
Ye Mianmian’s place wasn’t far—just two floors up—so her delivery was quick.
But there were still two units on the 21st floor, which made everyone uneasy. Still, they couldn’t let their guard down.
The building was eerily quiet now, and sitting on that mountain of supplies made them feel vulnerable.
Sun Yian’s situation had likely been resolved. He had shouted out all their names and apartment numbers earlier, and now they were exposed—clearly marked targets. Incredibly dangerous.
The four decided to move together—no splitting up.
This time, Jiang Yuan led the way, and Song Yi brought up the rear.
When they reached the 17th floor, they heard something.
Jiang Yuan grew anxious and ignored the supplies, running upstairs.
The three below followed quickly—they feared the worst. Her parents and daughter were upstairs, after all.
By the time they reached the 20th floor, the noise was getting louder—it was definitely coming from the 21st floor.
Song Yi had caught up and was right behind Jiang Yuan.
At the turn on the 20th floor, they could already see what was happening.
It was the scarred man and the compass lady, smashing the door to their unit.
He was wielding a huge sledgehammer. The outer door was already warped and looked like it would collapse any second.
“Oh, you’re back. Got all that stuff, and you didn’t even think to share with your neighbors?” the scarred man sneered, thinking he could scare them.
The compass lady crossed her arms and looked down at them arrogantly.
“That old guy just now—he’s your dad, right? I talked and talked, but he wouldn’t open the door. So stubborn. Serves him right!”
Jiang Yuan was furious—absolutely livid. These two actually dared to say such shameless things?
They had risked their lives to get those supplies—why should he get anything just because he wanted it? What a joke.
The blade of her Tang saber scraped against the stairwell, sparking cold glints of steel.
Unaware of the danger closing in, the compass lady kept yapping: “If you’re smart, you’ll—”
“Smart your damn—”
Before she could finish, Jiang Yuan swung the blade straight at the scarred man.
“Ahh!”
A blood-curdling scream echoed as blood sprayed across the compass lady’s face before she could even react.
When the Tang saber was drawn, it always meant blood.
Unfortunately, Jiang Yuan wasn’t strong enough—otherwise, that blow could’ve cut him in half.
The scarred man, overcome with pain, first screamed and then bared his teeth at her.
The look in his eyes—he clearly wanted revenge.
Song Yi stepped forward and pulled Jiang Yuan aside.
With a swift move, he slipped past the man’s armpit and got behind him.
Crack!
In a flash, he twisted the man’s neck.
“Ah! Murder! Murder! Help!” the compass lady screamed, drawing the attention of a few people—one even peeked down from the 20th floor.
The bloody scene shocked them.
Jiang Yuan’s cold stare made the compass lady panic and drop to her knees, begging for mercy.
“Please let me go! It was all him! He was the one who wanted to come up here—it had nothing to do with me!”
“Let you go? Did you let us go?”
She didn’t even dare to imagine—what if Jiang Xingzhi had been stopped by them before making it back? What would’ve happened then…?
