Apocalypse Prepper Gone Lazy Chapter 56

Chapter 56 – Discovering the Secret of the Space

Sure enough, Ye Mianmian’s house had a lot of stuff.

She had a sizable collection of beauty products, all heavy-duty.

By the time they finished packing, it was already 8:30 in the evening.

These past two days had been absolutely exhausting.

“Zhang Kaiyang, I saw you had a drone.”

“Yeah, I bought it back when we went on an outdoor shoot. If it weren’t for moving, I’d have completely forgotten about it.

Oh, right…”

He slapped his forehead.

“With the drone, if there’s danger later, I can use it to send you a warning.”

Hmm, not a bad idea. It might actually work.

“Alright, you guys go ahead and finish tidying up. We’ll head back for now.”

“Got it…”

“Oh, by the way—if you get the chance, try to scout out the situation next door,” Song Yi added casually just before leaving.

Zhang Kaiyang and Ye Mianmian didn’t dare take it lightly. They nodded repeatedly.

Living next to someone unknown could be a huge risk.

After returning home, Jiang Yuan felt completely drained.

“Mom, what are we having for dinner?”

“Tomato and egg noodles sound good? We also have sweet and sour radish…”

“Of course! How could I say no? Mom’s cooking is the best in the world.”

Seeing her daughter still had the energy to joke, Qin Yue felt reassured—it couldn’t be that serious, then.

She turned and went to the kitchen to make noodles for her daughter and husband.

She and Xiao Nuan had already eaten, and their home had quite a lot of supplies. She’d sorted through some in the afternoon, but there was still plenty stacked on the floor.

After eating, Jiang Yuan took her daughter to the bedroom.

Xiao Nuan usually went to bed around 9, and now her body clock had kicked in. It only took a few minutes to get her to sleep.

Jiang Yuan didn’t waste any time and hurried to the bathroom.

She needed to enter the space—and couldn’t risk the little one discovering it again.

Thankfully, she could still hear everything outside from inside the space.

Inside, it was a complete mess. Though the land was vast, there was so much stuff.

Staring at the lush green vegetables, she had a flash of inspiration. She grabbed an opaque black garbage bag, pulled up a bunch of greens, stuffed them in, and snuck back out of the room with a mysterious air.

Sure enough, Qin Yue and Jiang Zhizhi were still awake, sorting supplies.

There were a lot of tissue packs scattered around, many already opened and half-used.

“Dad, Mom—I have something amazing to show you.”

She held up the vegetables like a trophy.

Her parents were stunned. Such fresh vegetables—these days, they were more valuable than gold.

“Where did you get this?”

“Shhh!”

Jiang Yuan deliberately put on an exaggerated hush and lowered her voice.

“I found it in a lab at one of the offices. Inside a growth chamber. Not only did it not freeze, it actually grew really well.

No one else knew—I snuck it back.”

Forgive her the lie. If she didn’t come up with a cover story, and her secret ever got exposed, she’d be in big trouble.

“Oh wow, look how tender and fresh this is! This is perfect—Xiao Nuan has been having trouble going to the bathroom lately. She needs to eat more greens.”

Even now, her parents were still thinking about her and her daughter. Jiang Yuan felt a wave of warmth and emotion.

“You guys go ahead and eat these. I saw there were plenty more, and I’ve hidden them away. When things calm down in a few days, I’ll go check again.”

“Look at our daughter, so capable!”

Qin Yue said proudly to Jiang Zhizhi, who immediately pushed back.

“She’s my daughter too…”

“Dad, Mom, this stuff’s not good with the cold. Better store it away.”

“Right, right. Sweetie, go rest—I’ll get your dad to find a foam box.”

“Okay then, I’ll head to bed.”

Jiang Yuan was thrilled. Being able to openly eat fresh vegetables now—that was something to be happy about.

Once in her room, she quickly upgraded the space’s timer.

She also put the 20,000 yuan she just got inside, spreading it across the bed. That was over 6 million in cash.

Just imagine—if the bed weren’t sturdy, it might collapse under the weight.

She didn’t know the exact amount, but she could only convert it in batches.

After that, Jiang Yuan looked at the timer—695 hours, 40 minutes, and 31 seconds.

“My god!”

She gasped.

That’s 28 days, with a few hours to spare.

Almost a full month—unbelievable!

Still, she reminded herself not to get cocky. Even that much time wouldn’t be enough.

Now that the bed was cleared, she turned her attention to upgrading.

The display showed no more land was available. Those cobblestone paths also took up land—not worth it.

Oh, right—she remembered choosing the electrical socket before.

After a thorough search, she finally found a five-hole socket next to a cabinet.

She grabbed her phone and charger—sure enough, it worked.

Excellent! Even without fuel, she wouldn’t starve.

There were also a bunch of other icons, so she figured, might as well go all in and unlock them.

Since she couldn’t add land, she might as well max out everything else.

No need for tables or chairs—she already brought plenty back.

But she did have a lot of clothes, so maybe another wardrobe?

Thinking that, she clicked the wardrobe icon.

And something magical happened.

Two new icons appeared: both wardrobes—but one was four-door, the other three-door.

She was confused—wait, are the wardrobes different sizes?

Of course she picked the four-door. More space! She wasn’t dumb.

Once she selected it, the icon disappeared.

“Huh? Oh my god!”

Her worldview was shaken again—it wasn’t that a new four-door wardrobe appeared; the old three-door one transformed into a four-door.

She couldn’t believe it. She rushed over to inspect it—just a normal four-door wardrobe, no hidden compartments or buttons.

She wasn’t satisfied—had to test it again.

And bam—this time, three options appeared: three-door, five-door, and four-door with an overhead cabinet.

Mystery solved, sisters: it turns out the items in the space can be upgraded.

But only items from inside the space. Stuff brought in from outside doesn’t count.

Jiang Yuan had truly discovered a new world.

Each item had to be unlocked first, then upgraded based on its real-world version.

Although she still had plenty of “Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth” resources, she had to be frugal.

To save time, she started upgrading like crazy—until a strange icon appeared. It looked like a little house, with two windows.

With trembling hands and a racing heart, she clicked it.

Sure enough—even the house could be upgraded.

There were three icons: a one-room house, a two-room house, and one turned sideways—probably a side room.

Without hesitation, she picked the two-room version. Instantly, an additional room appeared next to the original one—though it was completely empty.

This was just like a game she once saw Xiao Nuan play—complete missions, earn rewards, upgrade your little homestead.

Jiang Yuan suppressed her excitement and began selecting all the upgrades she needed.

She was building her own personal utopia…
