Chapter 14 Hey~ Captain! I can’t wait to go home to see my sister-in-law!!
“… …” Jiang Wan felt that something wasn’t right.
No matter how much the kids hated those other women, why were they even nervous when it came to eating?
Why did both Fu Chen and Fu Xiaoyan only dare to eat after watching her eat first?
It was as if… they were afraid she might have put something in the food!
Or… were they just overly cautious and guarded?
Jiang Wan frowned slightly and scooped a bowl of rice for each of them. Then she said,
“Eat it all! No leftovers!”
She had measured the portions carefully—not too much.
“… Okay, okay!” Fu Chen tried another bite of the stir-fried cabbage and tofu.
Maybe because Jiang Wan had presented it as a “punishment,” it made him feel more at ease eating it!
He even comforted himself internally: This is the bad woman forcing us to eat!
It’s not like we asked for it!
And besides… it’s just one time eating meat. Should be fine, right?
That bad woman had eaten braised pork yesterday, and yet her face today was still smooth and pale—not at all like someone who got sick or had a stomachache!
And even those stray dogs she fed earlier had passed by the front gate again just now—they were totally fine!
The more Fu Chen thought about it, the more reassured he felt.
His chopsticks didn’t stop after that!
Fu Xiaoyan was the same. She was even less reserved about her feelings—her big eyes sparkled like stars!
She had never eaten food this tasty before!
It smelled and tasted amazing!!
Jiang Wan watched the two kids eat so eagerly and felt her own appetite pick up.
She ended up eating a full bowl of rice herself.
By the time they finished, the two kids had actually eaten everything—not a single grain of rice was left!
Then each of them let out a satisfied little burp.
Looking at their faces, they were like two happy little hamsters, completely full and content.
But still… as a stepmother, while food was important, she couldn’t indulge them too much.
She had to admit, Fu Jingchuan, despite being a rough-around-the-edges kind of guy, had the right idea when it came to parenting.
She also planned to help the kids develop good habits like helping with house chores.
So, using her “boss” identity, she let the two of them rest a bit, then had them help her clear the table and wash the dishes.
After that, she still felt the kitchen and yard were kind of messy. So she had the two little cuties help tidy up even more.
When they finally finished, she was speechless.
What exactly did Tang Feng do to earn her salary?
It was bad enough that the kids weren’t fed properly, but now even basic cleaning hadn’t been done?
Hmph! If she didn’t kick that ridiculous mother-daughter pair out soon, she’d write her own surname upside down!
After a long round of chores, Jiang Wan started feeling sleepy again.
The two kids also looked like they could barely keep their eyes open.
The sunlight was warm and perfect for a nap.
She glanced at the front gate—broad daylight, no need to latch it.
Yawning, she headed inside and called back,
“Your boss is sleepy. You two go do whatever you want!”
Fu Xiaoyan rubbed her eyes and mumbled, “Bro, I’m sleepy too…”
Fu Chen, holding her hand, also looked tired.
“Come on, big brother will take you to nap!”
“That woman naps forever, she’s definitely gonna sleep a long time!”
And with that, the two little beans toddled back to the side room to sleep.
Jiang Wan dug out a soft white cotton slip dress from her suitcase—it was just right to wear as sleepwear.
Fu Jingchuan is probably still at the base, she figured.
Even if he came back, he wouldn’t walk into her room.
So she even took off her undergarments underneath.
Strangely enough, this body’s original owner not only looked nearly identical to her but had a similar figure too.
Small frame, but with soft curves hidden beneath the clothes.
Her chest was full and plush, and it was really uncomfortable keeping them squished in clothes all the time.
She wanted to sleep well, so she loosened her long braid, snuggled into the blanket, and drifted off sweetly.
But unexpectedly… she started dreaming again.
—
Fu Jingchuan’s first task after arriving at the military base today was to get their marriage certificate issued.
Because Grandpa Fu had already contacted the higher-ups, it was processed very quickly.
However, Fu Jingchuan had arrived early and told them that the name had been incorrect—it should be Jiang Wan, not Jiang Shanshan.
The officer on duty was a little surprised but didn’t ask further.
They’re both surnamed Jiang—probably just a clerical error, he figured.
After receiving the certificate, Fu Jingchuan felt… oddly strange.
It wasn’t his first time getting married.
So why… was there this strange sweetness blooming in his chest?
…With this thin little piece of paper, Jiang Wan was now officially his wife.
No going back now.
He looked at the paper resting in his rough palm, and his deep phoenix eyes seemed to burn with a hidden intensity.
Then he closed the certificate gently.
In truth, he’d been married three times before, and every time, he couldn’t even remember where the certificate ended up by the time of the divorce.
But this time… he felt oddly uneasy.
After a while, he made a decision—he would go back home and put the certificate away safely.
Maybe… he could even show it to Jiang Wan.
After all, last night she…
Fu Jingchuan’s sword-like brows furrowed slightly as a few images flashed through his mind. It seemed that after he got drunk, he had mentioned Jiang Shanshan’s name—and he vaguely remembered a flicker of anger on Jiang Wan’s fair and delicate face.
Was she… upset?
Could she have misunderstood something?
A strange tightness gripped his chest before he could even react, and he had already walked out the gates of the military base.
The young soldier at the security post, knowing he’d just received his marriage certificate, boldly teased him,
“Yo~ Captain! Can’t wait to get home to see your wife, huh!!”
“Don’t forget to invite us when you throw the wedding banquet!!”
“We’re waiting to feast!!”
“…So much nonsense? Focus on your post!” Fu Jingchuan’s neck flushed with heat, and he quickly stuffed the marriage certificate into the pocket of his camo pants with his rough, calloused hand. Then, with long strides, he headed straight toward home.
But as he reached the door, he noticed something odd—
It was completely quiet inside. Not a sound.
Could it be… she was taking a nap?
Fu Jingchuan glanced up at the sun.
It was the kind of time that made people drowsy.
Still, now that he was already back…
If she really was asleep, he’d just quietly put away the marriage certificate and leave.
He softened his movements and slowly pushed the door open—almost no noise at all.
But the moment he stepped inside, his nose twitched twice.
???
What’s that smell??
Why does it smell so good?!
Fu Jingchuan’s throat bobbed slightly as he swallowed, frowning in confusion.
He had eaten plenty at the mess hall at noon, so why was he suddenly hungry again?
And more importantly…
How come he’d never smelled such delicious food here before?
Was today’s meal… also made by Aunt Tang?
