The head nurse exchanged glances with several doctors who had just arrived, and all of them instinctively looked toward Yang Tianjiao.
Yang Tianjiao was so disgusted she felt like throwing up everything in her stomach. That mop Su Ying had shoved into her face just now—was the one used for cleaning the toilet. Worst of all, she had been shouting at Su Ying with her mouth wide open, and that filthy thing had gone straight in.
Seeing everyone staring at her, she quickly raised her head and explained:
“I just asked her to clean a little more thoroughly—she’s new, after all. I was only concerned she didn’t know how. How could I have expected her to have such a horrible temper and attack me like that?”
Su Ying leaned on the mop handle with one arm, staring coldly at her.
“Yang Tianjiao, is that really what you said? Why don’t we replay your words for everyone and let them decide who’s right?”
“Enough!”
An angry roar interrupted Su Ying.
Wearing high heels, Director Zhao marched up to Su Ying, giving her a once-over before speaking in a heavy tone.
“You’ve accepted this job, haven’t you? Then do it properly. What do you think a hospital is? Some place for you to fight and show off? Is this some rural field where you can brawl whenever you feel like it? What are you trying to prove? That you’re fierce? Or that you’re uncivilized and uneducated?”
Hearing this, Yang Tianjiao felt vindicated. She jumped up like she’d found her savior and clung to Director Zhao.
“Director, someone like her—with no manners at all—has no place in our hospital. She’s not even fit to clean the toilets! I say we just fire her now.”
The head nurse and a few other doctors greeted Director Zhao politely but then glanced at Su Ying with helpless expressions.
She had only just started work and already offended Yang Tianjiao, who was clearly under Director Zhao’s wing. Everyone knew it. If she was being targeted now, chances were, she was really going to lose her job.
Director Zhao wrinkled her nose and pushed Yang Tianjiao aside slightly, her expression clearly disgusted as she noticed the water still on Yang’s face.
She turned to Su Ying and said coldly:
“Don’t bother showing up tomorrow. Go file your resignation paperwork today.”
Su Ying asked calmly:
“Reason? You tell me to quit, and I just do it? I went through proper channels to get this job. Also—who are you exactly? What kind of director are you, and do you even have the authority to fire me?”
Director Zhao’s expression froze. Before she could speak, Yang Tianjiao jumped in:
“This is Director Zhao of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department! You’re just a janitor. You think a department director doesn’t have the right to kick you out?”
Su Ying raised an eyebrow. So she’s a department director? She’d already sensed there was something suspicious between these two, especially the way Yang Tianjiao had suddenly grown so bold.
She was starting to suspect her being targeted had something to do with this woman—but she couldn’t understand why. She didn’t even know Director Zhao. Why would she be after her?
Still, her domineering attitude didn’t seem to match her position.
“Oh, so you’re Director Zhao. Well, if you want to fire me, then please provide a written notice and go through proper procedures. Anything else? If not, I’m heading home. My family is waiting for me.”
She turned to leave. Yang Tianjiao was furious, grabbing Director Zhao and yelling:
“She’s way too arrogant! She completely disrespects you! You can’t let her off like this!”
Director Zhao gave her a disdainful look and narrowed her eyes slightly.
She was starting to realize Su Ying didn’t seem like some ordinary country girl. Bold, unapologetic, and clearly knowledgeable—she didn’t act like someone who knew nothing.
Just then, a nurse rushed over, followed by a man in a sleeveless undershirt, carrying a woman covered in blood in his arms. Blood dripped down onto the floor as he walked.
“She was giving birth at home—massive bleeding!”
The nurse looked anxious. Director Zhao shot Su Ying a cold glance before finally turning to check the woman who had just given birth.
“Severe postpartum hemorrhage. She’s already going into shock. Probably won’t make it. Take her to the operating room—let’s see if we can save her.”
The head nurse immediately organized people to move the patient, while Director Zhao took out a handkerchief and wiped the blood from her hands.
Noticing Su Ying staring at her, Director Zhao raised her eyes and said coldly:
“Following the proper procedure will just take a little time. You can stay a few more days and continue cleaning.”
Su Ying didn’t respond. She was staring at the trail of blood on the floor, her mind flashing back to the scene of the man carrying the woman past her.
Judging by the amount of bleeding, if they didn’t do a blood transfusion immediately, the woman really might die.
She quickly caught up with Director Zhao and said urgently:
“Have the nurse check her blood type immediately. She needs a transfusion before surgery to stop the bleeding.”
Director Zhao didn’t even look at her and replied condescendingly:
“I’m the doctor. You clean toilets.”
She walked away at a leisurely pace.
Su Ying was desperate. She didn’t have time to argue, so she grabbed a young nurse and said urgently:
“The woman who was just brought in—test her blood type right away and prepare blood. Based on her current blood loss, if she doesn’t get a transfusion now, she’ll die.”
The nurse looked troubled and shook her head.
“I don’t have the authority. The director is in charge—we have to follow her instructions.”
Su Ying was going crazy. That woman might die because of this! And she had just given birth—there was a baby waiting for her!
A doctor’s compassion—Su Ying had no choice but to run off in search of the head nurse from earlier.
She caught her just as she was about to enter the OR and quickly said:
“Check her blood type first! From her facial color and symptoms, it’s more than just hemorrhage—she might have retained placenta. You need to inspect the placenta, check the surrounding blood vessels. And for that, she needs more time—so give her blood now.”
The head nurse stared at Su Ying in shock.
“You… what did you just say?”
“I said test her blood type. The bleeding—”
The head nurse recovered, but now she looked at Su Ying with suspicion.
“Aren’t you just here to clean? Director Zhao is in charge of the treatment. This isn’t your place.”
Su Ying sighed, clearly frustrated.
“I don’t want to get involved. But my professional ethics won’t let me watch a patient miss their window for treatment. I’ve said what I needed to say. Whether you listen is up to you. But I’ll say one last thing: we all entered the medical field to save lives. That’s someone’s life in there. If you take it seriously and prepare ahead, you might actually save her.”
The head nurse turned back and watched Su Ying walk away. Her figure was tall and slender, dragging a mop behind her—an odd sight.
After a moment of hesitation, the head nurse called over a nurse.
“Check the patient’s blood type. Get the blood bank ready.”
Once inside the OR, she saw that Director Zhao was already starting the procedure. She rushed over and whispered:
“Director, maybe we should examine her uterus again. If there’s retained placenta, it could make the surgery more dangerous.”
