Chapter 2: She Pushed Me!
There was no doubt about it—Ning Wanwan had been thrown out of the room, wrapped in a bedsheet, by He Yunshen!
After all her inexplicable antics, she had only managed to push He Yunshen further and further away. Now, he didn’t even want to come home and had even asked someone else to take care of her—just to avoid unnecessary encounters with the original host of this body…
Ning Wanwan: “I have to say, this plot is seriously melodramatic…”
He Yunshen looked at the dazed Ning Wanwan with a dark expression, restraining his temper as he asked again, “How did you fall down?”
It was only then that Ning Wanwan snapped out of her thoughts and took a serious look at He Yunshen.
This man had sharp eyebrows and starry eyes, broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs. In that crisp military uniform, he absolutely radiated a cold, abstinent charm…
And at a glance, it was clear he came from a prestigious family. Everything about him exuded noble arrogance, as if it came naturally.
Ning Wanwan couldn’t help but sigh—this man really did have the looks to make women swoon. No wonder the original host had shamelessly insisted on marrying him.
Then, her gaze shifted abruptly to Xu Lili, who was standing nearby looking guilty.
She raised a delicate finger and pointed straight at her. “It was her. She pushed me.”
“Ning Wanwan, don’t talk nonsense! Y-You… You fell by yourself!” Xu Lili shouted back, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
Ning Wanwan looked at the woman in the floral dress, now red-faced with shame and fury, and sneered.
“Xu Lili, didn’t you say I was seducing your dear Captain Zhao? That’s why you pushed me down and even said you wanted me dead.”
Gasps of shock rippled through the surrounding military wives. Suspicious glances shifted between Ning Wanwan and Zhao Hongjun—no one had expected such a scandal.
Then hushed murmuring began to spread.
Zhang Yun frowned, clearly disapproving. “Xiao Ning may be a bit temperamental, but accusing her of seduction? Lili, don’t talk nonsense.”
She continued, “Besides, Commander He is young and handsome. Why would Xiao Ning go for someone like Captain Zhao, who’s old enough to be her uncle?”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
At the back of the crowd, a skinny, dark-skinned military wife scratched her head awkwardly and squeezed her way to the front.
She muttered, “These past few days, I did see Captain Zhao going to the He residence around lunchtime…”
Someone behind her gave her a subtle shove. She got the message, clammed up, and backed off into the crowd.
Xu Lili folded her arms and snorted with a smug, “caught-you-red-handed” attitude.
He Yunshen’s face darkened like the bottom of a scorched pot. He turned to look at Zhao Hongjun with a cold gaze.
Zhao Hongjun panicked. He grabbed Xu Lili and started dragging her away.
“You crazy woman, what kind of nonsense are you spewing? Get home with me right now—you’re embarrassing us!”
Xu Lili stumbled as she was pulled along, her face turning pale, then red, and back again. She shouted while yanking at Zhao Hongjun’s hand:
“Who’s spewing nonsense? I saw you sneaking off to take care of Ning Wanwan at lunchtime! Do you have no shame?”
“What does she have other than a seductive face? Even a cripple like her gets your attention—Zhao Hongjun, you’re disgusting!”
Ning Wanwan frowned. Seductive face? Lady, this is just a strong-featured beauty, okay?
Ugh—no makeup really is terrifying!!!
But she wasn’t the original host—and she definitely wasn’t someone who would take abuse quietly. Getting scolded for no reason made her visibly angry.
Her face turned cold as she barked, “Stop right there!”
He Yunshen also stepped in, “Captain Zhao, bring your wife back and explain everything clearly.”
“I only asked you to help deliver a few meals to my wife. How did it turn into this?”
The surrounding military wives immediately turned to glare at Xu Lili with disapproval.
So it turned out Commander He had been too busy and asked Captain Zhao to help out—and Xu Lili, in her jealous frenzy, completely misread the situation and even tried to push Ning Wanwan to her death.
Wow… that’s one seriously toxic mindset.
The couple flinched at Ning Wanwan’s outburst. Zhao Hongjun, face flushed, dragged Xu Lili to stand before He Yunshen and Ning Wanwan.
“Commander He—”
Just as Zhao Hongjun started to speak, He Yunshen raised a hand to cut him off.
“Let your wife explain first.”
Xu Lili snorted and shook off Zhao Hongjun’s grip.
“Fine! Commander He, I just want to know—did you know that Ning Wanwan has been flirting with my husband every day?”
Before He Yunshen could respond, Ning Wanwan’s temper snapped.
Taking advantage of Xu Lili’s inattention, she pushed herself up using her left arm and slapped Xu Lili square across the face.
As she delivered the slap, she couldn’t help but grumble internally, Being in a wheelchair really makes slapping people inconvenient…
Still, she’d erased the original host—what was one slap in return?
Then she spat fiercely on the ground.
“Xu Lili, I won’t allow you to insult Captain Zhao like this. He was just being kind and helped deliver lunch a few times on Commander He’s behalf. What’s wrong with your brain? Why are your thoughts so filthy?”
Everyone was stunned by Ning Wanwan’s bold move. A disabled woman slapping someone without warning? No one saw that coming.
He Yunshen, too, looked at her in confusion. Something felt… off about her today.
She’d always been spoiled, yes, but at least she used to act refined. Why was she suddenly so outspoken and aggressive?
Before he could think too deeply, Xu Lili, now publicly humiliated, lost it.
“Ning Wanwan, how dare you hit me! I’ll kill you!”
She clutched her face and lunged at Ning Wanwan with a howl.
Ning Wanwan panicked, eyes going wide as the furious woman charged at her. She instinctively raised her arms to shield her delicate face.
Thankfully, He Yunshen reacted quickly. With one long arm, he pulled Ning Wanwan’s wheelchair behind him.
Zhao Hongjun also grabbed Xu Lili from behind, trying to restrain his shrieking wife.
Xu Lili had always been prideful and unwilling to suffer loss. Not being able to land a single hit made her livid.
She turned her fury on Zhao Hongjun, clawing at him like a wild animal.
“Zhao Hongjun, you coward! Your wife’s being bullied and you don’t even fart in her defense! Are you even a man?! Let me go! I’ll deal with her myself!”
Then she began scratching at him with her sharp nails.
Several military wives nearby tried to calm her down, but she was beyond reasoning. She cursed them all until they walked away.
Zhao Hongjun couldn’t hold her back anymore. Furious, he began to wrestle with her.
Ning Wanwan was a little shaken. Watching Xu Lili’s bright red face, she thought, She’s probably about to explode—or faint from rage…
Then—SLAP!—a loud smack rang out, and a second, even larger handprint appeared on Xu Lili’s face, right over the one Ning Wanwan had left.
She toppled to the ground.
Now her face was so swollen it looked like a pig’s head. She gasped and wheezed, huge tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Wuwuwu… Zhao… Zhao Hongjun, you hit me! I’ll fight you to the death!!!”
