Chapter 1 Prologue
The little dragon cub still had no name. Her father had abandoned her when she was still an egg to descend to the mortal realm and save the common people.
Tens of thousands of years ago, the upper realm was home to immortals, the demon clan, the god clan, and all manner of small creatures who had just awakened their spiritual consciousness and knew a few minor magics.
Later, Nüwa saw that the lower realm was barren and created the human race. Once humans gained spiritual awareness, they began seizing territory and struggling for survival. As the humans stirred up increasing chaos, the common people at the bottom suffered lives worse than pigs and dogs, barely scraping by day after day. The gods grew concerned.
The divine dragon clan had always possessed the ability to ascend to the heavens and enter the earth, summon wind and call rain. They naturally took up the task of saving the common people and unifying the human race—a feat that would bring immense merit.
But at that time, turmoil arose in the upper realm. Over tens of thousands of years, the gods fell one after another until only a single dragon and an egg remained in the world—father and daughter.
The matter was of grave importance, so the divine dragon had no choice but to leave his still-unhatched cub in the upper realm. He erased his memories and descended to the mortal world as a human, taking the surname Ying and the given name Zheng. Later generations would call him the First Emperor of Qin.
The little dragon cub hatched all alone, with neither her father nor any playmates by her side—not even a talking bird. Though small, she had inherited the divine dragon clan’s talents, and she resolved to find her dragon father.
Her intentions were good, but she was young and weak, her magic often unstable. She attempted the journey four times, each time arriving at the wrong moment and causing quite a few mishaps.
The first time she traveled back, her father was only five or six years old, living in a foreign land where he was constantly bullied by Zhao children. The dragon cub was furious and secretly intervened several times to teach those humans a harsh lesson.
The second time, her father had just ascended the throne, but real power lay in the hands of treacherous ministers. With internal strife and external threats, he faced danger multiple times. The little dragon cub secretly protected him until he finally secured his rule.
The third time, she thought nothing much would happen—only to arrive just as the reincarnated Jing Ke launched his assassination attempt. This time, Jing Ke abandoned his plan to capture the Qin king alive and swore to cut him down with his sword. Caught off guard, Ying Zheng was in grave danger. In desperation, the little dragon cub had to reveal herself to block the blade and allow her father to escape. Thus, this attempt also failed.
The fourth time she traveled back, her father’s life had already reached its end. The little dragon cub witnessed firsthand the chaos that engulfed Qin after his death, with villains seizing power until the kingdom fell.
“…”
The first four attempts at finding her father were like the eighty-one trials of a pilgrimage to the Western Heaven—except she never reached her goal.
By the fifth attempt, the little dragon cub reflected deeply on her failures and diligently practiced her magic. This time, she finally arrived at the right moment!
Her dragon father had just unified the realm under his rule, proclaiming himself the First Emperor in the height of his glory. Arriving now meant she could enjoy the good life! After four exhausting attempts that left her spinning like a top, the little dragon cub was finally satisfied.
Keeping an eye on her hot-tempered dragon father and safeguarding the Qin dynasty were just side tasks—enjoying herself was the real priority.
