“Divine Doctor Military Wife: Married the Wildest Officer and Had Babies” Chapter 10

Chapter 10: The Act Went Too Far…

An hour later, two trays of steaming hot pork-and-cabbage dumplings were ready.

Ning Wanwan thought to herself, If you want a good meal, you’ve got to cook it yourself—just the smell is enough to make one drool!

“One tray for dinner, one for breakfast. Perfect.”

Just as she was moving one tray of freshly cooked dumplings to the table, He Yunshen walked in with a lunchbox in hand.

The fragrant aroma of meat dumplings filled the room, and He Yunshen’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly—he’d secretly swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

He couldn’t help it—he was a born carnivore.

Watching Ning Wanwan struggle slightly with the tray, he strode forward and pushed her wheelchair to the dining table.

Ning Wanwan frowned. This damn man keeps staring at my dumplings—what’s he up to?

If he dares try and steal my dumplings, he’s dead meat.

“…Thanks.”
Her tone was distant. She didn’t bother acknowledging He Yunshen any further and began eating with her chopsticks.

He Yunshen also sat down, opened his lunchbox, and snuck a glance at her dumplings.

The braised tofu and cabbage he’d brought suddenly tasted like cardboard.

“Ahem… uh, are there any more dumplings? I don’t want them for free—I’ll buy them from you.”

He pulled three yuan from his shirt pocket and neatly placed them beside Ning Wanwan’s hand.

At the sight of real RMB, her little head finally responded, her big eyes locking onto He Yunshen.

She hadn’t planned to pay him any attention, but money… well, that changed things.

After all, she was a total money-grubber, and now that she was getting divorced, she’d need even more money to support herself. Every penny counted.

“There’s another tray in the kitchen. They’re yours. Dumpling soup is free—help yourself.”

He Yunshen quickly dashed into the kitchen, grabbed two big bowls, filled them with dumpling soup, and brought everything back.

He placed one bowl next to Ning Wanwan, then happily began eating.

Ning Wanwan ignored him and quietly sipped her soup. The dumplings were delicious, but a bit greasy.

As a medical professional, she always watched her figure. After eating half a plate, she put down her chopsticks.

He Yunshen, on the other hand, had already polished off his entire plate.

Ning Wanwan: Is he secretly a pig or something…?

He Yunshen had no idea what she was thinking. After happily eating the last dumpling, his eyes drifted over to the remaining half plate in front of her.

She sighed inwardly. Well, he did pay three yuan for these dumplings. Let him eat his fill, I guess.

So she pushed the plate over. “If you don’t mind, go ahead.”

He Yunshen’s lips curled into a smile. He pulled the plate over and resumed eating with satisfaction.

Then he noticed the bits of flour still clinging to her hands—his sharp instincts kicked in.

Wait… did that bowl of egg noodles from lunch and these dumplings… were they all made by Ning Wanwan?

The realization struck him like a bolt of lightning.

He had the sudden urge to tug on her cheeks, just to make sure this was the real her and not a swapped-out clone.

Otherwise, how do you explain this total personality overhaul?

The old Ning Wanwan used to do nothing but throw tantrums and lust after his body. She never did anything remotely useful.

But now? She could diagnose illness, perform acupuncture… and cook?

Most bizarre of all, she no longer threw fits or ogled him. In fact, he could keenly sense that she was actively rejecting him—eager to get divorced and rid herself of him.

As He Yunshen pondered all this, even the dumplings in his mouth started to lose their flavor.

His eyes locked tightly onto Ning Wanwan.

She noticed his gaze and looked up at him, her clear eyes unwavering.

“If you want to ask something, just ask.”

He took a sip of soup and carefully considered his words.

“You seem… very different. Why?”

Ning Wanwan: Because I’ve been body-swapped, duh…

That was the truth—but of course, that’s not what she said.

Ning Wanwan: Dear audience, it’s time for a dramatic performance!

She lowered her gaze and spoke in a sorrowful tone.

“Because I’m tired. I’ve reached my limit of disappointment… So I’ve decided to let go. Let you go. Let myself go.”

“You only remember me as a mess—causing drama, losing my mind—but do you even remember what I was like before we got married?”

Her eyes turned red, and she lightly dabbed at the corners with a handkerchief.

He Yunshen was stunned. That’s right… the old Ning Wanwan wasn’t always like that. She’d been spoiled, yes, but she hadn’t completely lost her mind.

He had always treated this arranged marriage with indifference. Apart from attending to her daily needs, he had never invested a single ounce of emotion.

He had never truly understood Ning Wanwan. His coldness had crushed her spirit and twisted her personality into what it had become.

That actually made sense. But… something still felt off.

Ning Wanwan noticed his conflicted expression and knew she was almost in the clear—but she needed to push further to completely erase his doubts.

So, she started sobbing.

Tears fell without warning—and landed hard on He Yunshen’s cold, hardened heart.

“He Yunshen… ever since I found out I wasn’t the real daughter of the Fang family, I began secretly learning to cook. I wanted to survive after I left the Fang household.”

She wiped away tears and continued.

“Back then, I was arrogant and ignorant, but once I discovered the truth of my identity, I started studying medicine. I wanted to be someone like you—someone who serves the country and helps people.”

“I was scared you’d look down on me. I couldn’t bear seeing that disdain in your eyes.”

“But in the end… I still became the version of me you hate the most. That’s why we should divorce. I was never good enough for you…”

He Yunshen’s brows furrowed tightly. Seeing her cry like this completely shattered any lingering suspicion he had.

Guilt gnawed at him like a thousand ants.

He Yunshen: Goddammit… I’ve been such a bastard! I’m worse than scum!!!

“Enough. Stop. Ning Wanwan—I’m sorry. I mean it. But I won’t agree to a divorce. Please, give me a chance to make it up to you.”

The moment he said that, Ning Wanwan’s tears stopped dead. She looked shocked.

Oh no. Crap. I overacted…

“He Yunshen, I don’t want your compensation. I… I just want a divorce. Please, just say yes.”

But He Yunshen couldn’t hear her anymore. The crushing guilt had swallowed him whole.

Divorce? Impossible.

He had to make it up to her—he couldn’t let her go.

Letting her go would be irresponsible.

Letting her go would make him worse than a beast.
