Chapter 18: Can I Get a Monthly Plan?
Originally pure-hearted and ascetic, He Yunshen now had nothing but pink, romantic thoughts in his head. So much so that when he carried Ning Wanwan out of the car, his face was flushed red, making Ning Wanwan glare at him in annoyance.
What’s worse, this dog of a man was only wearing a shirt, and his burning body heat was seeping through the fabric, pressed tightly against her.
That made Ning Wanwan’s own face flush unconsciously.
She even started to suspect He Yunshen might have done something with Fang Lanlan earlier, which would explain why he was acting so much like a horny dog.
Yet this clueless man didn’t even spare a thought for the unexpected kiss they shared that afternoon. Ning Wanwan looked at him with a hint of disdain in her eyes.
After they got inside, He Yunshen pushed her wheelchair into the room and turned to leave without saying anything.
Ning Wanwan didn’t care. She wheeled herself into the kitchen, took a small piece of pork from her dimensional space, and got ready to cook dinner.
Ten minutes later, a fragrant bowl of shredded pork noodles was ready. Ning Wanwan took a deep breath of the aroma, feeling like all the bad moods of the day had been healed.
She carried the bowl to the dining table and began eating happily.
Right then, He Yunshen came back, holding a few dry, shriveled mantou (steamed buns). It was already late, and he had run far just to buy those.
But the rich smell of meat filled the house and hit him square in the nose. He sniffed and immediately spotted Ning Wanwan eating, her nose slightly sweaty from the heat.
Suddenly, the mantou in He Yunshen’s hands lost all appeal…
Ning Wanwan glanced at him indifferently, her gaze pausing for a second on the dry buns.
Then she started eating faster — she had to hurry up before this dog man tried to snatch her food.
He Yunshen was too embarrassed to ask for a share, so he poured himself a glass of hot water, sat down at the table, and started chewing on a mantou.
Every time he took a bite, he peeked at Ning Wanwan’s bowl, as if just looking could make the mantou taste better.
Ning Wanwan grew irritated under his stare. Puffing her cheeks, she turned sideways to block his view with her back.
He Yunshen looked aggrieved. Not only did she refuse to share, now he couldn’t even look. He nibbled on his bun and sipped hot water with pitiful eyes.
It was sheer torture for a meat lover like him.
After a long inner struggle, he finally got up and walked into the kitchen.
Seeing that there was still a fair amount of noodle broth left in the pot, along with bits of minced pork, He Yunshen couldn’t help but smile.
This little woman does have a conscience — she actually saved me some meat.
(Ning Wanwan, in her heart:) Bro, don’t flatter yourself. That was meant for the neighbor’s dog, Xiao Hei…
Holding a big bowl of broth, He Yunshen was clearly in a great mood, as if he’d just won a battle and seized the enemy’s supplies.
Ning Wanwan saw the broth in his hands and instantly fumed. Her slender fingers tapped the table lightly.
“One yuan,” she said, opening her fair palm in front of him.
He Yunshen looked utterly baffled. He pointed at the broth and asked, “This… one yuan?”
Ning Wanwan nodded while slurping her noodles. Then she shamelessly added,
“I’m disabled, so labor costs are high. Even if it’s just broth, it’s worth a yuan.”
He Yunshen was so amused by her reasoning that he burst out laughing. Gritting his teeth, he glared at her cute little face.
“Fine. If you’re charging, I’ll pay two yuan — for that broth and the half bowl of noodles you didn’t finish. I want both.”
He pulled two yuan from his pocket and slapped it down next to her hand.
Ning Wanwan looked down at her half-eaten noodles, thinking, This dog of a man really got a taste for my leftovers?
Well, she was already full. If he wanted it, he could have it — as long as she got paid.
Now that they were divorced, she had a business to build. You can’t build anything without money.
Thinking of this, she cheerfully pocketed the cash, then pushed the bowl in front of him and flashed a nearly obsequious smile.
“Dear customer, please enjoy. Let me know next time what you’d like to eat. As long as the price is right, I promise to keep you well-fed every day.”
He Yunshen didn’t respond. Ning Wanwan wisely shut her mouth too.
She had to admit, the food Ning Wanwan cooked really suited his taste. The only problem was — he never got enough. That’s because she never made extra for him.
Thinking of this, He Yunshen spoke up, his voice low and a little hesitant:
“Can I sign up for a monthly plan? Paying per meal is too expensive.”
Ning Wanwan raised her eyebrows — she hadn’t expected this dog man to take her joke so seriously.
Tilting her head thoughtfully, a sly glint flashed in her eyes.
“Of course. Two meals a day — lunch and dinner — sixty yuan per month. I can’t get up early, so breakfast is on your own.”
“If you only eat a few days, I’ll refund the rest by the day. In case we get divorced again, you know.”
He Yunshen nodded. “Deal on the meals. I’ll bring the money tomorrow. As for divorce — give up on that. We’re doing fine. Taking care of you is my responsibility.”
Ning Wanwan bit her lip. Looking at the man’s stubborn face, she realized there was no point arguing.
Once her legs healed, she’d just run away. He was the one clinging to her — that couldn’t be blamed on her.
After dinner, He Yunshen not only cleaned up the dishes but also boiled a big pot of hot water.
He knocked on her bedroom door.
“The bathwater’s ready. Do you want to take a bath?”
Ning Wanwan put down her medical book. Of course she wanted a bath.
But the memory of how the original host used to bathe was… uncomfortable.
Wearing just a vest and shorts, being carried by a man who was practically a stranger — even if it was due to her physical condition, she still found it awkward.
The original host, however, used to enjoy it. If she weren’t worried about saving face, she probably would’ve asked to be carried in fully naked.
After all, she had been actively trying to seduce He Yunshen. But he had incredible self-control and never fell for it.
Ning Wanwan couldn’t really avoid it. She’d been in this body for two days already — if she didn’t wash soon, she’d start to stink.
Thinking of that, she rummaged through the closet for a while before finally calling out, “Alright, come in.”
He Yunshen had helped the original host bathe many times, so he was used to it. He pushed her wheelchair straight to the bathroom.
Seeing her holding a bedsheet in her arms, a look of confusion crossed his dark eyes.
Once inside, before Ning Wanwan could say anything, he gently shut the door and stepped out.
Ning Wanwan undressed and pulled out the large floral sheet she had prepared earlier, wrapping herself tightly from the chest down.
Somehow, she managed to make this gaudy ’80s red floral bedsheet look like a fashionable wrap.
“He Yunshen, you can come in now.”
When He Yunshen walked in, he saw Ning Wanwan sitting quietly in her wheelchair, her black hair loose, wrapped in the large red sheet.
The rising steam made her moist eyes glisten, her lips naturally red, and her pale, flawless skin looked almost ethereal — stunning and seductive.
He Yunshen’s throat moved unconsciously.
He awkwardly cleared his throat, pretending to be calm as he bent down to carry her into the bath. Then, flustered, he fled the bathroom.
