Release the Female Lead, Leave Her to Me
Release the Female Lead Ch. 182

Chapter 182: More Face Slapping?

Just one sentence made the battle-hardened “Ye Meijing” break out in a cold sweat, feeling like Fairy Fengya had figured something out.

But then again, no matter how smart Fairy Fengya was, she could not read minds. As long as “Ye Meijing” did not admit anything, what could Fairy Fengya do?

With this thought, “Ye Meijing” calmed down, and tried to act as casually as possible.

“I’m just an ordinary person; how could I have anything to do with the Demon Lord?”

“This secret chronicle is detailed, but it doesn’t seem as comprehensive as you say,” Fairy Fengya said, quickly flipping the secret chronicle open again, pointing to a page.

It only vaguely mentioned the fact that the Demon Lord had disciples.

“You said it’s a secret chronicle, one about the Demon Lord and the Eldest Princess; how could it have recorded the Demon Lord’s life in such detail?”

“Ye Meijing” was confounded. The focus of this book was on the love-hate entanglement between the Demon Lord and Long Qingyue, although she did not know which talented person wrote such outrageous things, as entertainment, reading gossip about herself and her best friend was somewhat amusing.

However, judging by Fairy Fengya’s attitude, it seemed she had no intention of returning the book.

“Master, have you checked everything inside? Can you return the book to me now?”

“Ye Meijing” attempted to change the subject, but Fairy Fengya simply put the book into her bag of holding, declaring, “I haven’t finished reviewing it yet; I’ll return it later.”

That attitude, far from that of the world’s top beauty, seemed more like that of a bandit. “Ye Meijing” cursed inwardly, but could not help wondering what exactly Fairy Fengya was looking for.

“By the way, Master, what are your thoughts after reading it?”

“Ye Meijing” pretended to casually ask. She noticed that as long as her questions were reasonable, Fairy Fengya would usually answer.

“The Demon Lord deserves to die,” Fairy Fengya uttered just a few words, but they were enough to startle “Ye Meijing”. However, she remained calm and continued to inquire, “Why should she die? You didn’t even know about her before.”

Colossal blame dropped on her out of nowhere, leaving “Ye Meijing” puzzled about what details the secret chronicle contained to make Fairy Fengya think like this.

Fairy Fengya did not answer, and seeing her act mysteriously, “Ye Meijing” now just wanted to find Fatty and ask if he could get another copy of the secret chronicle.

However, five minutes had already passed since his match ended, and “Ye Meijing” still had not seen Fatty anywhere.

“Ye Meijing” activated her Divine Sense, quickly scanning her surroundings, searching for Fatty’s figure. But for some reason, not only was Fatty nowhere to be found, but even Su Mei and Gu Aotian were missing.

A new idea emerged in her mind, and “Ye Meijing” suddenly stood up. Fairy Fengya looked at her with confusion, unable to understand why her reaction had suddenly escalated.

At first, “Ye Meijing” planned to leave the mess to Fairy Fengya and go straight away. But after carefully considering Fairy Fengya’s actions just now, she decided to remind her, “Master, remember to keep a low profile when you slap faces, and don’t let your disciple’s edge show too much or you’ll draw trouble.”

Fairy Fengya was familiar with the term, but did not understand why “Ye Meijing” liked attacking people’s faces so much.

“Another face slap (da lian, lit. hit face, meaning to humiliate sb.)?”

“It’s an adjective term my family used. Anyway, just be gentle; Fatty hasn’t come back yet, and I’m a bit worried. I’ll go look around nearby. Remember, if strangers talk to you, don’t respond; don’t follow them, not even if they’re familiar. Right now, you’re Ye Wenxin. Don’t behave like your usual self as Fairy Fengya.”

In that moment, “Ye Meijing” felt like she had become Fairy Fengya’s guardian, worrying about what she might do here and there. But as the female lead, how could Fairy Fengya really keep a low profile?

“Ye Meijing” could not continue to watch over Fairy Fengya now. She was worried about Fatty’s safety, fearing that Su Mei might harbor murderous intentions towards Fatty because of the earlier showdown.

“Big Sister, where are you going in such a hurry?” On the way, “Ye Meijing” encountered other members of the Cozy Gang. After thinking about it for a moment, she decided to tell them about the possibility of Fatty being abducted.

Everyone knew Fatty’s importance to the Cozy Gang, so upon hearing the news, they immediately organized into search parties to locate Fatty. “Ye Meijing” did not stand idle either. She showcased her Phantom Step for the first time in front of others, swiftly scouring every corner.

Before long, she finally spotted Fatty tied up in an inconspicuous area, with Su Mei and Gu Aotian beside him.

“How dare you hit me! How dare you!” Su Mei kicked and stomped while Fatty remained silent, just glaring fiercely at his good brother, Gu Aotian.

Gu Aotian stayed silent, looking completely different from half a year ago. Gone was his former sunny disposition; his gaze had become shadowed and cold. Even though the person before him was his best friend, Gu Aotian’s eyes seemed to regard him as though he were already dead.

As the saying went, even the bravest hero could be seduced by a beautiful woman, but if the hero had fallen to a coward, brotherhood was destined to turn to enmity, with no chance of reconciliation.

“Fatty, are you going to submit?!” Su Mei’s hands grew tired from the beating. She pulled out a rattan1 stick from her bag of holding and fiercely lashed out at Fatty.

Fatty’s face paled, but he stubbornly gritted his teeth, refusing to cry out, just glaring fixedly at Gu Aotian.

Gu Aotian’s gaze began to waver, as he looked at his brother and then at his woman, seemingly showing signs of crumbling.

It was only for a few seconds, as Su Mei immediately sensed Gu Aotian’s heart softening. Leaning on his arm, she continued to manipulate him, saying, “This guy has already been seduced by that little slut, Ye Wenxin. Look at him, he turned from fat to skinny, he must have been drained dry by her.”

Ironically, Su Mei was the vixen, but now she was accusing Ye Wenxin of seducing people.

From afar, “Ye Meijing” watched speechlessly as she slowly emerged from the bushes. Without making a sound, she startled Su Mei and Gu Aotian, who immediately assumed a defensive stance. But upon realizing that the newcomer was not Ye Wenxin, they both breathed a sigh of relief, and a contemptuous smirk appeared on Su Mei’s lips.

Fatty also spotted “Ye Meijing” and struggled on the ground. He knew that “Ye Meijing” was his Big Sister and, of course, knew that the real Ye Wenxin’s cultivation could not stand up to Su Mei’s.

If Su Mei had not suffered a setback from Fairy Fengya earlier, Fatty would not have been able to deplete Su Mei’s Qi during their subsequent battle and win through sheer determination.

Now, he had completely exhausted his Qi, even standing was a struggle for him; protecting “Ye Meijing” was out of the question.

Footnotes:

  1. In Asia, rattan is most commonly used for making furniture and wicker baskets. Thicker ones are also used to make kali/escrima/arnis sticks, and some martial arts staves like the bo. Some schools used thin, short rattan sticks to discipline students (at least the Catholic-Chinese primary school I went to did) ↩︎
