Apocalypse Prepper Gone Lazy Chapter 101

Chapter 101: High Fever of 40 Degrees

Jiang Yuan followed over to take a look too. Being a woman, she was certainly more convenient than the other two men in this situation.

“Her forehead is really hot. Zhang Kaiyang, can you boil some hot water?”
“Alright, I’ll go do it now.”

No matter what, she would definitely need to take medicine soon. They had a liquefied gas tank, so boiling water was quite convenient.

Song Yi followed Zhang Kaiyang out. Ye Mianmian was still scared, tightly holding Grandma Ye’s hand.

Jiang Yuan didn’t say much—after all, she had been raised by her grandmother too, so she understood how deep the bond was.

And with the elderly being at such an age and the weather being so erratic, the risks were higher. Her concern was perfectly understandable, and Jiang Yuan empathized with her.

“Time’s almost up. Let’s see how it is now.”
“Okay. Grandma, I’m going to take the thermometer out. Be careful, okay?”

She spoke so gently, like coaxing a child.

“It’s already 40°C! Quick, give her the medicine!”

Jiang Yuan started searching for the medicine. Song Yi had brought a lot—many packages were already opened, with some pills separated into small bags.

But the boxes looked new, probably repackaged by him earlier.
Clearly, he was being cautious, and Jiang Yuan chose not to comment.

The fact that he was even willing to share medicine in such times was already a huge favor.

“This one’s ibuprofen. Let’s give her this—it works fast to bring down fever.”
“Okay.”

Ye Mianmian took the pills and poured water from a thermos cup to help Grandma Ye swallow them.

“Mianmian, does Grandma have any other symptoms?
Like coughing or a runny nose?”

“She’s coughing a little, not too badly. Earlier she said her throat hurt, and now her nose is kind of blocked—her voice has changed.”

“Then it’s clearly a cold.”

Jiang Yuan then found some cold medicine sachets and amoxicillin.

“Let’s give her these too—one is for the cold and the other is an antibiotic.”
“Okay!”

Just then, Zhang Kaiyang came back with the hot water. Jiang Yuan didn’t let Ye Mianmian do anything—she herself prepared the medicine and mixed it with the hot water.

Once Grandma Ye had taken all the medicine and was tucked in under the covers, everyone finally moved to the living room.

Ye Mianmian’s eyes were red and puffy, and she looked exhausted.

“Sorry for the trouble, Song-ge, about the medicine—let me give you some money!”
“No need. It’s just what I had left—keep it and use it.”

Ye Mianmian didn’t insist. At this point, all you could really remember was who helped you in your hardest times.

“Mianmian, be sure to check her temperature every hour.
And if she starts sweating, change her clothes right away—otherwise, she might catch a chill again.”
“Got it, I understand, Yuan-jie.”

Ye Mianmian noted everything down. Before, any minor sickness meant going straight to the hospital.

At worst, there were still small clinics around.

So she’d never truly had to take responsibility.

“Yuan-jie, how do you know so much?”
Zhang Kaiyang tried to lighten the mood with a casual question.

“I have kids at home. Small children get fevers easily, and they can’t express themselves well, so you have to pay close attention.
Mianmian, Grandma’s taken the medicine now—there shouldn’t be too much to worry about anymore, okay?”
“Mm. Thank you all. Yuan-jie, thank you especially.”

She even said a separate thank-you—how awkwardly polite.

“Going forward, we really need to be careful. Keeping warm isn’t optional anymore.”
“Kaiyang’s right. We should also start exercising to boost immunity—it’s the best defense.”

Song Yi agreed, putting the emphasis on physical preparedness.

What they said was all true—and the most pressing issue for now.

“Now that we’re not short on food at home, we really need to make physical fitness a priority.
Look, the wind has died down, and the rain’s a lot lighter too.”

When Jiang Yuan said that, everyone turned to look out the window. The lights weren’t on outside, and only two-thirds of the curtains were drawn.

“It’s true—not only is the wind calmer, the rain’s much lighter too.
There were even a lot of people out today. We really took the initiative.”

Zhang Kaiyang felt lucky. If they hadn’t gone out early, those places would’ve been swarmed by now.

By then, no one would give in to anyone—the scene would’ve been ugly.

They still remembered the chaos at the service area.
Two tigers can’t share one mountain. Killing had become disturbingly normal.

And even then, you might not get any food.

“I don’t think it’ll be more than a few days before the wind and rain stop altogether.”
“Really?”

A spark of hope lit up in Ye Mianmian’s eyes. If the rain stopped, would that mean this extreme weather might finally be ending?

Would life finally start to return to normal?

“I feel the same way. But since we can’t get online anymore, we don’t know what’s going on out there.
And we’re not exactly experts in meteorology either.”

Jiang Yuan was just being realistic. This situation wasn’t just a natural disaster anymore—it showed how powerless people were against nature.

“But the end of the rain might not be a good thing either.”

Song Yi’s tone was cold and emotionless.

“Why not?”
Zhang Kaiyang was naive and confused. No more rain sounded like a good thing, right?

This damned weather—wet, humid, inconvenient. He was sick of it.

“It’s winter. Once the water freezes over, we’re in trouble.
If the floodwaters don’t drain, our building’s lower floors will all freeze solid.”

Jiang Yuan’s words dimmed the flicker of hope they had just lit.

“That’s terrifying. People on the lower floors still won’t be able to return.”
“Yeah… If things are going to improve, it probably won’t be until spring.”

In her previous life, she never lived to see the warmth of spring—only the agony of the extreme cold that followed, even worse than now.

“Let’s not dwell on it too much. Things will only get harder.
We’d better start preparing ourselves, physically and mentally.”
“Song-ge’s right. We really do need to take action now.
Before, we just said we’d work out, but we were lazy. Now I want to train properly.
Oh, right! Song-ge, train us, will you?”

Zhang Kaiyang looked at Song Yi with starry eyes, like he was a piece of delicious braised pork.

His gaze was so intense, Jiang Yuan couldn’t help but overthink it.

“What’s with that look? Someone might think you’re secretly in love with Song-ge.”

Wow. This girl really dared to say anything. Jiang Yuan silently gave her a thumbs-up.

“Nonsense! My friendship with Song-ge is purely revolutionary and platonic!”

Song Yi, however, showed no reaction at all—no expression, nothing.

“I think Zhang Kaiyang has a good idea. Starting tomorrow morning, I’ll train everyone.”

“Uh, really?”

Jiang Yuan thought about it. This guy had a military background, and from what she had seen, his self-discipline was impressive.

Learning from him might actually be a great idea.

“Yeah. Tomorrow morning at 9:00. Meet in…”

He looked around the cluttered living room and closed his eyes for a second.

“…meet at the hallway on the 21st floor. Jiang Yuan, that okay with you?”
“Ah? Okay! No problem.
But since it’s a hallway, we shouldn’t do anything too intense—we don’t want to upset the neighbors downstairs.”
