Chapter 3: Anya is pregnant
“You’re right, I was useless before. But I’ll still put up with your antics in front of me. I really deserve to die!”
Jian Sining sneered, raising her hand to slap the other woman. But a powerful hand suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Huo Shizhou coldly scolded, “Sining, enough! You dare hit someone at the police station? Even I can’t protect you.”
“Slap!” The next second, a heavy slap landed on Huo Shizhou’s handsome face.
The man was stunned. Anya was also dumbfounded.
“How could I forget you? It’s against the law to hit someone at the police station, but hitting my own husband should be fine, right?” Jian Sining looked up, meeting the gazes of several police officers.
They all looked at Huo Shizhou with a mixture of sympathy and amusement.
Huo Shizhou struggled to control his anger, tightening his grip on Jian Sining’s hand.
“Jian Sining, what have you become? You weren’t like this before.”
“Before, I was muddle-headed and blind, but now I’m fine. I’ve seen through all your hypocritical faces.”
“What are you talking about?” Huo Shizhou showed no sign of guilt.
“Don’t pretend, Commander Huo. Your feelings for my cousin are truly profound. To prevent her from being punished, you even sacrificed your marriage just to get her a letter of leniency. How touching!”
Huo Shizhou frowned, as if he didn’t know what she was talking about.
If she hadn’t been reborn and known the truth, Jian Sining would have been deceived by his expression.
“The statement has been taken. If there’s nothing else, you can all leave,” a police officer in charge of questioning said.
Jian Sining frowned and pointed at Anya. “They haven’t even questioned this suspect, why are they letting her go?”
Anya innocently pouted. “I said I was innocent, but you had to make a scene. Are you satisfied now?”
“Satisfied? As long as you haven’t been brought to justice, I’ll never be satisfied!”
“Jian Sining, will you ever stop? Anya is your sister. Do you have to destroy this family?” Jian’s father roared.
Jian Sining roared back in the same tone, “What sister? Did you give birth to her? You’re so eager to be a father to your mother’s murderer? Your family’s happiness requires sacrificing your mother. Do you even deserve to live? If I were you, I’d kill myself!”
“Then go kill yourself! I’ll pretend I never had a daughter like you!” Jian’s mother trembled as she pointed at her and cursed.
“Didn’t you already get rid of me as your daughter? From the moment you kicked me out to live with Grandma for Anya’s sake, I’ve never had a mother like you. Why should I listen to you?”
(Host, do it! Confront this crazy couple until they’re the ones suffering. As long as you don’t get mentally drained, they’re the ones who’ll suffer!)
“You…you…are nothing like Anya’s obedience and well-behaved nature. If only she were my real daughter. You unfilial thing, you’ll receive retribution!”
“Then you better watch out, because the death of both parents is the biggest retribution for me!”
“Sining, how can you talk to your mother like that? Apologize immediately!” Huo Shizhou couldn’t bear it any longer and rebuked her sternly.
Jian Sining turned to Huo Shizhou, her eyes unwavering. “Unkind parents, unfilial children! This is her retribution. Why should I apologize?”
“Because you married me, you’re my wife, I’m your husband, I order you to apologize to your parents and Anya!”
“Huo Shizhou, I married you, I didn’t sell myself to you. You’re my husband, not my superior, and certainly not my boss. You have no right to order me around.”
“Jian Sining, don’t push me.” Huo Shizhou clenched his fists, anger swirling in his eyes.
Jian Sining fearlessly met his gaze. “Don’t try to threaten me with that ‘training new recruits’ routine. It won’t work! We can just get a divorce. You can openly compete with Lu Ye for Anya. I’ll let you have her.”
Jian Sining ripped the mask off Huo Shizhou’s face. Reborn once more, no one would have an easy time of it.
Huo Shizhou laughed angrily. “Divorce? We’ve only been married a month, and you want a divorce? Do you think military marriages are a joke?”
He’d trained countless soldiers, but Jian Sining was the first to lose control. This actually ignited his desire to control her.
Jian Sining poked his chest with her index finger. “It’s clearly you who desecrated the marriage! You clearly like Anya, yet you married me for her. While you’re here, feeling self-righteous about sacrificing yourself for love, did you ever think of me? Am I just supposed to become a sacrificial lamb for your love?”
“Ningning, you’ve misunderstood! Brother Shizhou, please don’t fight anymore. I’ll never have peace if you two keep this up,” Anya bit her lip, crying with self-blame and distress.
“This is between Sining and me, it has nothing to do with you. Xiaoya, you should go back,” Huo Shizhou’s tone softened when he looked at Anya.
His affection and concern for her were so obvious, yet he insisted on deceiving himself.
“No, she can’t leave! My grandmother was killed by her reckless driving. Whether intentional or not, shouldn’t she be punished?”
The police officer in charge of the case stepped forward and explained formally:
“Anya did indeed engage in reckless driving driving without a license. But the elderly person she hit was her own family member, and she has already obtained the family’s forgiveness. So, for her illegal actions, the punishment is a fine and compensation. As for detention…she’s pregnant…”
Pregnant?
Jian Sining looked at Anya in shock, meeting her defiant gaze.
That’s why she’d spoken to her like that earlier she had a get-out-of-jail-free card in her belly.
But in her previous life, she hadn’t gotten pregnant until six months later.
“Ningning, Lu Ye, you, and Brother Shizhou, we all got married on the same day. I found out I’m pregnant. You and Brother Shizhou should work on it. Don’t keep arguing about divorce over little things. You’ll be happy too.”
Anya stepped forward, taking one of Huo Shizhou’s hands and one of Jian Sining’s, placing them together.
Jian Sining disgustedly threw her hand away, sneering. “No wonder that dog Lu Ye changed brides at the last minute. You two were already together before you got married. That’s nothing to be proud of. I’m not as shameless as you.”
“Jian Sining, Anya is well-intentioned. How can you say such things about her?” Jian’s mother scolded.
Jian Sining sneered, looking at the well-dressed woman. “Whether she’s well-intentioned or not, I don’t know. But what are your intentions, Mom? Knowing that Lu Ye was my boyfriend, you still pushed him and Anya together. Do you even deserve to be a mother?”
Jian’s mother felt a moment of guilt, but quickly regained her composure. “Anya saved your mother’s life back then. She lost her mother and has a weak heart. You’re my daughter, what’s wrong with letting a man go to her? Now you’re married to Shizhou, isn’t he as good as Lu Ye? What are you not satisfied with?”
Anya painfully clutched her chest. “Ningning, Lu Ye doesn’t love you at all. I did this for your own good…”
Jian Sining pointed at Anya angrily, “Stop your self-righteous acts of kindness. Your retribution will come eventually.”
Anya was startled. “Ningning, you can hate me, but how can you curse my child?”
Jian Sining grabbed her hair. “Then I’ll help you…”
