Chapter 11: The More She Resisted, the More He Wanted to Conquer Her
Li Qingqing changed her clothes and headed to the study. The door was slightly ajar, and through the narrow gap, she caught a glimpse of Lu Yan’s left hand—there was a bandage on it.
Turning around, she went to the cabinet in the living room and took out the first aid kit. She had just seen it while tidying up earlier that evening—she hadn’t expected to need it so soon.
She knocked lightly on the half-open door, glancing somewhat awkwardly at the man inside.
“Do you need something?” the man asked.
This woman still dared to step into his study.
“Um… it looks like you’re injured. I know a little about bandaging…” Li Qingqing spoke softly, unsure whether what she was doing was appropriate.
“Oh?”
Lu Yan glanced at his left hand. He must have scraped it on something while dealing with that group of thugs earlier. The cut wasn’t deep, so he’d just casually slapped on a band-aid.
“You sure know quite a lot,” Lu Yan said, a little surprised.
“I guess so…” Li Qingqing tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, feeling a little embarrassed by the compliment.
In the past, she was often beaten by the drunken Xie Hongde, so she’d grown used to treating her own wounds. Over time, she’d gained some experience.
Seeing that Lu Yan didn’t refuse, Li Qingqing walked directly over to him. She opened the medical kit and prepared to treat his wound.
She knelt down, gently took his left hand, and carefully peeled off the band-aid he had casually applied. Then she meticulously disinfected the wound, her movements gentle and precise.
Looking at this long, slender hand with well-defined joints, Li Qingqing couldn’t help but recall how that hand had once ignited sparks across her body, teasing her mercilessly. A flush quickly spread across her cheeks.
Lu Yan was still seated in his chair, gazing down at her movements from above.
He thought of how she had just smashed the photo frame at him—so resolute, so decisive, without the slightest hint of hesitation.
This woman was even more stubborn than he had imagined.
He had assumed that after sleeping together twice, a third or fourth time wouldn’t be an issue…
But he hadn’t expected her reaction to be so intense.
And yet—what could he do?
The more she resisted, the more he wanted to conquer her.
He had never once failed to achieve a goal he’d set his mind to since childhood, and this time would be no different.
Looking at the flush on her face and the small mole at the base of her neck—so captivating it haunted him—Lu Yan turned his head, forcing himself to control his desire.
She had already been through a scare tonight. He wouldn’t take advantage of her vulnerability. Besides, they now lived under the same roof—he had all the time in the world to win her over.
—
The next morning, when Lu Yan woke up, he found that Li Qingqing had already prepared breakfast.
Plain porridge, side dishes, and egg pancakes.
It had been a long time since Lu Yan had eaten such down-to-earth food.
“You’re awake, Young Master Lu? Come eat breakfast,” Li Qingqing greeted him with a smile. She was still grateful for his heroic rescue last night, so she had gotten up early to make him breakfast.
Lu Yan walked over and sat at the dining table. Looking at the warm dishes on the table and Li Qingqing’s virtuous appearance, a strange feeling of domesticity stirred in him.
He had to admit—it felt rather nice.
“Don’t call me Young Master Lu anymore,” Lu Yan said, clearly displeased.
“If not that, then what should I call you?” Li Qingqing was confused. To her, Lu Yan was her employer—it was only proper to address him respectfully.
“Just call me by my name. Didn’t you shout it fluently enough when you were cursing me last night?” Lu Yan teased her with a mocking glance.
“…”
Li Qingqing was momentarily speechless and lowered her head to bite into her pancake.
She had only cursed him because he was acting like a rogue…
And he still had the nerve to bring it up.
—
After breakfast, Li Qingqing left for university.
Today, Haihua University was hosting an on-campus recruitment event. Li Qingqing had agreed to meet Shen Lu there. Both of them were in the second semester of their third year, the perfect time to start looking for internships.
“Hey, Qingqing, why didn’t you come back to the dorm last night? I thought you already resumed classes?” Shen Lu suddenly remembered that Li Qingqing had quit her job at the Lu household, but her belongings were still at the dorm.
Caught off guard by Shen Lu’s sudden question, Li Qingqing panicked a little.
“Um… the part-time job I found provides dormitory housing. It’s closer to the workplace, so I’ve been staying there for now,” she replied nervously.
“What kind of part-time job is this? Not only does it pay better than being a nanny for the Lu family, but it also includes accommodations? Qingqing, don’t get scammed,” Shen Lu said, clearly skeptical.
“Oh, come on, Lu-lu, I’m not that gullible. Don’t worry about me,” Li Qingqing laughed awkwardly, trying to brush it off.
In truth, she didn’t feel so confident either. It all seemed too good to be true. But with Xie Ze’s medical bills looming over her, she had no time to think too much about it.
“Really? Why do I feel like you’re secretly dating someone? Are you sure those two red marks on your neck aren’t hickeys?” Shen Lu tilted her head, staring suspiciously at her neck.
Startled, Li Qingqing quickly let her hair down to cover it. A few days ago, in the attic of Lu Yan’s villa, he had left a trail of kisses all over her. She had already done her best to cover them up with high-collared shirts, but apparently some still peeked through.
“What are you talking about? Those are bug bites! Don’t jump to conclusions,” Li Qingqing said in frustration, feigning annoyance.
Shen Lu remained half-convinced. “Why are you so shy? Dating isn’t a crime. If you’re up for it, even a one-night stand is no big deal. These days, women advocate for autonomy over their bodies. Don’t burden yourself with unnecessary moral pressure. Men? Play with them if you want.”
Li Qingqing blinked in surprise and nodded slowly. Shen Lu had dated two boyfriends before—maybe she did have a point…
“But are you really planning to become a teacher, Qingqing? I remember you were more into traditional medicine. Weren’t you always reading those Chinese medicine books?” Shen Lu suddenly changed the subject.
“I… I just want a job that pays well right now. Whether it’s teaching or traditional medicine, neither seems like a profession where you can make quick money. And Chinese medicine isn’t something that works on theory alone…” The more she spoke, the more disheartened she felt. Her future seemed so uncertain.
The job market was bleak, and the competition for civil service positions was fierce. Even though Haihua University was the best in Haicheng, the teaching field was oversaturated, and job opportunities were slim.
Just as the two were deep in conversation, Li Qingqing suddenly felt someone tapping her on the shoulder.
She turned around to see a clean-cut young man.
