In the darkness, Qin Chuan’s voice rang out, “Jiang Ning, Brother Huo?”
The two looked at each other. What was he doing here so late at night?
Doudou reflexively began to hide things again, as quick as lightning.
Green vegetables, chicken, pork, and more—all of Jiang Ning’s stash disappeared into her space, leaving only seafood barbecue.
Qin Chuan was invited in, and his nose kept sniffing. “You guys are living a good life, and you’re even eating barbecue.”
Jiang Ning ushered him onto the rooftop. “Want some garlic oysters?”
The darn barbecue smell got the best of Qin Chuan for a moment. “Sure.”
Jiang Ning handed him a bottle of beer. “Qin Ge, why did you come over so late? Is there something urgent?”
“It’s urgent.” Qin Chuan took a few sips of beer, sighing in contentment. “It’s also a great opportunity to make money, depending on whether you guys can seize it.”
Who wouldn’t want to make money?
Jiang Ning became interested immediately. “Go on.”
“The Tang Group and the Haisheng Base have been at odds, openly and secretly. You guys know about this, right?”
They had heard but weren’t interested. She came to the seaside to stockpile goods.
“The Haisheng Base has always wanted to swallow up the Tang Group, but the Tang Group isn’t weak either. Both sides have been deadlocked. Then, the Haisheng Base, not playing fair, kidnapped Old Man Tang to force Mr. Tang to submit.
Who knew Mr. Tang was a tough nut too? He hired a bunch of bodyguards and forcibly took Old Man Tang back. But the old man was clumsy, fell during the escape, and got pierced by a rusty nail.”
Anyone who had experienced a disaster knew that tetanus was no joke; it’s best to get vaccinated within 24 hours.
But in the two years since the apocalypse, pharmaceutical companies were destroyed by the disaster, hospitals were paralysed, and life-saving drugs were more expensive than gold.
The Tang Group was wealthy and powerful. If it were any other life-saving drug, it would be manageable. But the tetanus vaccine was special. It required refrigeration at 2–8 degrees Celsius, and once it left that environment, it could easily degrade.
Finding the vaccine was as difficult as reaching the heavens.
So, the Tang Group mobilized all its connections to find it.
Qin Chuan thought his network was extensive, but even after running around, he couldn’t find it, which led him to Jiang Ning.
“Tetanus vaccine?” Jiang Ning looked surprised. “That’s not easy to find.”
“Who said it was? My legs are almost broken from running around.” Qin Chuan drank his cold beer. “Do you have any leads? If you do, let me know quickly.”
Although Mr. Tang had a strong personality, he was a filial son through and through.
If they could find the vaccine, the reward would definitely be substantial.
Jiang Ning nodded in agreement. “Alright, since Qin Ge has asked, we’ll try to find some connections, but we can’t guarantee we’ll get the medicine.”
“Okay, but you need to be quick. Can you give me a message by eight tomorrow morning?”
Qin Chuan still had to search elsewhere. He finished his beer and didn’t forget to take some grilled squid as he left.
As he left, Jiang Ning continued to barbecue and stock the goods.
She liked eating grilled squid tentacles, so she had to stock up.
Huo Yishen was thoughtful. “Do you have the tetanus vaccine?”
“Yes.” And quite a bit.
Before the disaster, she specifically asked Zhang Chao to stockpile it, and later, she took it all when she searched the office buildings.
“Do you want to trade?”
“No rush.” She was just thinking, What should she ask from the Tang Group?
Fresh and dried seafood were stocked daily, and her space was already quite full. Coarse sea salt was even cheaper. It wasn’t worth exchanging the tetanus vaccine for.
Despite having it on hand, who knew what would happen in the future? It’s always good to be cautious.
Since she promised Qin Chuan, she had to go through with the act.
Jiang Ning continued to barbecue and stockpile goods, while Huo Yishen went out for a drive.
After returning in the early morning and not sleeping for long, Qin Chuan came again.
Jiang Ning checked the time; it was just past five.
By noon, it would be over 24 hours. Many had been sent out to find the medicine, but all returned empty-handed.
Qin Chuan, having no other options, came back to Jiang Ning. “So, have you found the medicine?”
Yawning, Jiang Ning replied, “Yes, I found it, but the person we need to get it from is not simple. They’re willing to part with the vaccine, but knowing it’s for the Tang family, they’re asking for something significant in return.”
Qin Chuan’s eyes lit up. “As long as it’s within Mr. Tang’s capability, we can negotiate.”
Jiang Ning hesitated. “They want a yacht.”
He had expected a high price, but this was extreme.
Before the apocalypse, a tetanus vaccine was only a few dozen yuan, while a yacht was worth seventy to eighty million.
Seeing his troubled expression, Jiang Ning added, “I also think it’s not worth it, but it’s the last dose they have. They didn’t intend to sell it at all. We had to persuade them a lot for them to even consider it.
“If you think it’s not worth it, we can decline.”
Qin Chuan, having seen much of the world, quickly responded, “No, a yacht is expensive, but it’s nothing to the rich. I’ll ask right now; you wait for my news.”
With that, he left hurriedly.
Jiang Ning lost her sleepiness. She stood on the rooftop with a night vision binocular, examining the few yachts docked at the distant port, all belonging to the Tang family.
Whether they were originally owned by the Tang family’s or found after the disaster didn’t matter to Jiang Ning; she just needed one.
Someday, if the land turned to sea, it would be their lifeline.
She had to plan ahead and prepare for the future.
Of course, if the Tang family refused to trade, Jiang Ning wouldn’t force it. She would find another way.
More than an hour later, Qin Chuan rushed back. “Mr. Tang agreed, but we must have the vaccine by noon, and it has to be effective.”
“I can guarantee that, but how can you guarantee they’ll give us the yacht?”
“This matter has already spread. If Mr. Tang goes back on his words, it will harm his reputation. Who would dare to do business with him after that? Haisheng base would love for him to break his word, just to kick him while he’s down.”
To be safe, Qin Chuan cautioned, “You should quietly retrieve the vaccine and avoid being noticed by people from the Haisheng base. I’m afraid they might sabotage things.”
Jiang Ning agreed and arranged to meet at the dock at ten in the morning.
After Qin Chuan left, Jiang Ning leisurely had breakfast, cleaned the house, and took the two out.
Just as she left the security booth at the foot of the hill, Huo Yishen said, “We’re being watched.”
Jiang Ning was surprised. “People from the Haisheng base?”
The car windows were tinted, so she carefully scanned the surroundings and indeed saw movement in the roadside bushes.
After driving about a kilometer, the movement ceased.
“It’s probably just an ordinary robbery gang,” Huo Yishen explained. “We go out to load goods every day, so it’s normal to be targeted.”
Who doesn’t want to catch the big fish in the villa? It could feed them for three years if they succeeded.
This gang had roles: the dock, seafood market, and fishing village, and after preliminary observation, they finally locked onto their target.
After detouring, they arrived at the dock ten minutes late.
Qin Chuan was worried and thought something had happened to them.
Jiang Ning hurriedly apologized, “Sorry, we’re late. We were being watched and had to lose them.”
Learning the vaccine was successfully obtained, Qin Chuan drove ahead, leading the two to the Tang family’s villa.
