Coming out of the space, the sky was completely dark.
Huo Yishen brought the yacht close to the shore without making Jiang Ning rush to put it into the space.
This place is far away from the fishing village and the dock. It is impossible for anyone to be there at night, but out of caution, he still put on night vision goggles and observed in the dark for a long time to make sure there was no problem.
There was a distance from the coastline, and they feared that the sound of the motorboat would attract attention, so the two of them paddled the rubber boat to the shore.
Once ashore, there was a slope leading to the coastal road.
There was no path; only thorny bushes and reeds were taller than people.
Huo Yishen took out a machete to clear the way ahead, protecting Jiang Ning behind him and flattening the path in front of her before allowing her to walk. “Watch your step.”
It took the two of them some time to climb up to the coastal road. Jiang Ning took out a domestically-made SUV and sat in the driver’s seat, turning on the headlights. “Are you okay?”
Huo Yishen was fine, with a few scratches on his hands from the reeds and thorns, bleeding a bit but not seriously.
Jiang Ning disinfected his wounds with iodine and then applied band-aids.
In the darkness, the old car slowly moved along the road.
One driving, one keeping an eye on the surroundings.
Safely back at the villa, Jiang Ning was in a good mood and took out some hearty dishes from the space to celebrate.
With an extra yacht, if they were forced to survive at sea someday, having a boat would keep them calm.
The trip to the seaside was worthwhile. During this time, they had stocked up on a lot of dry goods, plus the 3000 kilograms they received today, totaling over 10,000 kilograms of seafood.
Even though dry goods are nutritious, they shouldn’t be eaten carelessly. This was a meal for managing gout, so it required a precise diet plan.
Jiang Ning thought about stocking up on fresh produce.
After dinner, the three of them and the dog sat on the rooftop, admiring the moon and stars while eating watermelon.
Doudou rested her chin on her hands, looking at the starry sky. “Brother, sister, this place is so beautiful. If we could live here forever, that would be great.”
Jiang Ning also thought this place was good. In terms of environment and survival resources, it was much better than Fengcheng.
After getting used to living in a big villa, it wouldn’t be easy to go back to a two-bedroom apartment.
Living next to wealthy people, their living standards were similar, and they didn’t have to constantly guard against others with malicious intentions.
Walking the dog was also convenient; it could run around on its own and get plenty of exercise.
Huo Yishen had no objections. “If you like it here, we’ll settle down here in the future. We’ll find a time to bring the rabbits over.”
Jiang Ning thought it was possible, but it wasn’t urgent right now.
She had saved a lot of dry grass, enough for the rabbits to eat for two or three months.
It wouldn’t be too late to decide whether to stay or leave after stocking up on enough goods.
After all, there was no absolutely safe place in the apocalypse. The more refugees gathered by the seaside, the more dangerous it became. If they were really driven to a dead end one day, the villa area would be like a tempting piece of braised pork, and dozens of security guards wouldn’t be able to resist a group of demons.
Over the next few days, they returned with 1200 kilograms of fresh produce every day, which was extremely satisfying.
Shrimp, squid, crab, salmon, salmon, squid, sea urchin, oyster, scallop, abalone, conch, and so on.
There were also many other varieties, some of which they hadn’t even seen before.
In addition to trading, they continued to stock up on delicacies. Since ingredients were abundant, they made everything they could, constantly flipping through cookbooks to research new dishes.
Before they knew it, almost a month had passed, and they had stocked up on enough food for several years. They wouldn’t need to cook again in the future.
They enjoyed the sea breeze, drank beer, and brought out the barbecue to the rooftop to enjoy themselves.
They had just taken a few bites when Qin Chuan arrived again. Doudou quickly hid, even wiping the dog’s mouth for fear of being discovered.
With oil shining around his mouth and the smell of cumin, he would definitely be found out!
The kids were so clever, Jiang Ning almost laughed and cried.
However, she still left some oysters for Qin Chuan.
She couldn’t risk giving him fruit; it would be too easy to be exposed.
Jiang Ning welcomed him in. “It’s rare for Brother Qin to come over. Do you have another big business on your hands?”
“Who says I don’t?” Qin Chuan was greedy for oysters and praised as he ate, “Your skills are really good. It tastes better than the barbecue restaurants before the apocalypse.”
“Thanks for taking care of us, Qin Ge. Is Mr. Tang looking for medicine again?”
Other than that, she couldn’t think of anything that would make Qin Chuan make a special trip.
“He is looking for medicine, but this time it’s not Mr. Tang; it’s the leader of the Haisheng Base.”
Jiang Ning was puzzled. “You’re helping Haisheng Base find medicine. Aren’t you afraid of offending the Tang Group?”
Qin Chuan explained, “Actually, in our line of work, we remain neutral. We only trade goods for goods, and as long as the benefits offered by the other party are sufficient, it’s fine. Haisheng Base is indeed not as generous as the Tang Group, but the larger the organization, the less likely we are to be cheated. They don’t lack trading materials. It’s the smaller groups that are more dangerous. In the face of this natural disaster, no one can guarantee that doing business is risk-free. If you have concerns and don’t want to cooperate with Haisheng Base, I’ll just leave today.”
Since he had come, he still had to maintain appearances. Jiang Ning was curious. “I wonder what medicine they’re looking for?”
“Insulin.”
Insulin is a commonly used drug for lowering blood sugar. The fact that it still needed to be administered even after so long into the apocalypse indicated a severe lack of insulin for patients who needed to inject it for life. If it were needed daily, it would be unaffordable for ordinary people.
Getting straight to the point, Qin Chuan said, “Haisheng Base recently kidnapped Mr. Tang Father, so Mr. Tang sent someone to raid their leader’s medicine. The Tang Group is heavily guarded, so it’s not easy for Haisheng Base to retrieve the medicine. They just mobilized their connections to find it.”
Jiang Ning pondered, “Without timely injections of insulin, one would also die.”
However, with the advancement of medical technology, the storage problem of insulin had been solved, and it no longer needed to be refrigerated in special refrigerators. In other words, insulin wasn’t as rare as tetanus vaccines. As long as one had a wide network of contacts, it could still be found. Otherwise, the leader of the base would have died long ago.
Of course, Jiang Ning couldn’t tell the truth. “Insulin is not easy to find. I don’t know what the other party can offer in exchange. My previous clients have big appetites and usually don’t settle for ordinary things.”
“Gems, jewelry, seafood, grains, anything can work. Perhaps you have some needs, and I can communicate as a middleman.”
He even made a gesture—weapons.
Sorry, these were all things Jiang Ning didn’t want. She had a vague feeling that the expansion of the space had come to an end.
Even if it hadn’t reached its limit, it was already large enough for her. She didn’t need to expand it temporarily. Seafood was easy to obtain; they had stocked up on a lot of grains, and the space could also grow crops.
As for weapons, if Haisheng Base had heavy weaponry, they would have obliterated the Tang Group long ago, so there was no need for intense conflict.
However, the two docks were not too far apart, and Jiang Ning had carefully observed and compared them.
After much consideration, she finally spoke, “Qin Ge, we’ve been working together for so long. I’m not afraid to tell you the truth. My previous clients are quite capable in the pharmaceutical field. Finding a few vials of insulin in an emergency shouldn’t be a big problem, but I need to ask around to be sure. All I can say is, if we can really find the medicine, my previous clients won’t settle for just a yacht. If you’re sure the other party is willing to trade, I can help negotiate.”
Qin Chuan seemed thoughtful. Besides yachts, Haisheng Base also had several large fishing boats and even cruise ships.
This was about saving the life of the base leader, and the other party had promised to spare no expense to find the medicine.
“There shouldn’t be a problem. If you are sure about the medicine, I’ll talk to them specifically. But it needs to be quick; they probably don’t have many vials of insulin left.”
Jiang Ning nodded. “Okay, considering your face, we’ll give you an answer tomorrow.”
Huo Yishen escorted Qin Chuan out, checking the gate and the electric fence before returning.
He sat down beside Jiang Ning. “Do you want a fishing boat?”
