According to the direction of the shot, Huo Yishen pushed aside the dense bushes and discovered two bodies lying on the ground.
Jiang Ning shone the flashlight over, only to see a red dot at the center of each person’s forehead.
Judging from their fallen postures, one was shot on the spot, while the other tried to escape in fright.
He was fast, but not as fast as Huo Yishen’s gun.
To be able to headshot in the middle of the night—what incredible shooting skills—and so steady too. It was a waste for her to be so nervous.
Pitch darkness, murder, and dumping bodies at night.
Huo Yishen threw the two bodies into the sea, then erased the traces at the scene and continued climbing up with Jiang Ning on his back.
Finally reaching the coastal road, Jiang Ning unexpectedly didn’t rush down.
She leaned her head over and kissed his cheek. “Thank you for today.”
If it weren’t for him, dealing with things like the cruise ship would have been impossible.
Huo Yishen paused. “Do we need to thank each other?”
Jiang Ning smiled, said nothing more, and took out a car from the space.
Her body felt inexplicably tired; she got into the car and sat in the passenger seat, eating an energy bar to replenish her strength.
Huo Yishen leaned over and helped her fasten her seatbelt.
On the way back, they cooperated in the same manner, one driving and the other on lookout duty.
After passing the security booth of the villa area, Jiang Ning finally relaxed her guard and said, “So tired, I’ll take a nap.”
When they parked at the mountaintop, she had already fallen into a deep sleep.
Huo Yishen turned off the engine and carried her out of the car.
The dog wagged its tail and approached, whimpering, its eyes anxiously looking at the poop scooper.
Huo Yishen gestured for it to be quiet: “She’s fine, just sleeping.”
In a daze, Jiang Ning was awakened by the light streaming in through the curtains.
Out of habit, she turned around and bumped into warm, solid arms.
Startled, she sat up, nearly grabbing a knife to strike, only to find out it was Huo Yishen.
Well, he really knew how to push his luck.
Huo Yishen was lightly sleeping, and he woke up as soon as she moved. “What’s wrong?”
What’s wrong? Jiang Ning put away the knife. “Why are you sleeping here?”
“Yesterday was too late; I was worried you might run into trouble at night.”
Trouble? If he slept in her bed, that would be trouble.
Thankfully, he didn’t get out of line; otherwise, she’d greet him with a container.
The blazing sun rose early, and its harsh light made it feel like noon already by six o’clock, with intense heat.
Even with the air conditioning on in the room, opening the door to the balcony for ventilation nearly made her faint from the heat.
She checked the thermometer; it was 59 degrees!
Not only was it hot, but it was also humid, making it difficult to breathe.
She closed the door and relied on the air conditioning to survive.
A new day, milk, buns, and fried eggs.
Both of them ate happily. Jiang Ning drank her milk. “Do we still need to give the rest of the medicine to the Haisheng Base?”
It was clear before the deal that if the other party sent someone to shadow them or attempted foul play, the cooperation would be off.
Huo Yishen thought for a moment: “Give it to them.”
Firstly, he didn’t want Qin Chuan to get caught in the middle. Secondly, even though the Haisheng Base breached the agreement first and their credibility was questionable, Without the ship and with people dead, they wouldn’t receive the medicine, possibly leading them to act out of desperation.
There was no need to stir up more trouble over 14 vials of insulin.
Jiang Ning didn’t want to give it, but Huo Yishen’s reasoning made sense.
They arranged to meet at ten o’clock for the transaction, but to be safe, they planned to leave early.
Acquiring the ship was one thing, but they couldn’t let their guard down, and they couldn’t remove the bulletproof vests.
As they drove out, when they reached the mountain security booth, Lao Luo greeted them, “Mr. Huo, your house has been rented for a month; do you want to renew for the next month?”
Unfortunately, there was some bad news: the rent was increasing by 50 kilograms of grain.
A 50-kilogram increase? Isn’t that robbery?
Lao Luo explained with a smile, “There’s no way around it. We’re just following orders from above. More and more people are coming to the seaside, and many wealthy people can’t find houses even with grain. Just the day before yesterday, a family came here and couldn’t find a house and had to rent one in the fishing village. As a result, they were robbed empty in the middle of the night, and they even got stabbed several times. I heard that an eight-year-old boy was stabbed to death, and even his body was taken away. It’s chaotic outside now. If you don’t renew the lease, there will always be someone else interested in the house.”
Rough words, but logical. Jiang Ning had been at the seaside for a month, and although she didn’t usually go out much, she could still feel that there were more people on the beach.
It was crowded everywhere, with fights breaking out at the slightest provocation, leading to bloodshed over resources for survival.
The villa had good surroundings indeed, but whether to renew the lease, Jiang Ning hadn’t considered yet. First, she wanted to see how the Haisheng base would react. If they don’t cause trouble over the medicine, renewing the lease would also be an option. After all, who would leave a seaside villa and return to a cramped apartment on the 18th floor in Fengshen?
Jiang Ning was about to say she would consider it when she suddenly felt like the sky was dimming and the light was not as piercing as before.
Natural disasters were unpredictable, heightening her senses to extreme levels.
She looked up into the distance; her pupils were suddenly shocked, and she quickly tapped Huo Yishen.
While it was sunny and clear on this side, at the end of the sea, dark clouds were suddenly gathering.
Countless white clouds were moving and turning black at a visible speed, gradually gathering into a mushroom shape.
The weather grew hotter, and Jiang Ning felt as if she could smell the burning air.
Huo Yishen looked at the mushroom cloud, his face changing. “This isn’t good.”
He revved the engine to the maximum, the godlike car drifting in place, then stepped on the gas and headed up the mountain.
Lao Luo, who got covered in exhaust fumes, “…”
The car sped along the mountain road, Huo Yishen’s expression serious. “Anning, the weather’s changing.”
Jiang Ning felt it too.
If the climate were stable, this might not be such a big deal, but now it was the end of the world, where even a butterfly flapping its wings could trigger an unimaginable disaster.
After a few turns, the dark clouds at the end of the sea grew larger.
Jiang Ning could see it clearly from afar, but those in the fishing villages or on the beaches were completely unaware.
Perhaps some had noticed but didn’t care, even hoping for the dark clouds to bring relief from the heat or rain and praying for deliverance from the heavens.
Huo Yishen’s driving skills were steady. It usually takes about ten minutes, but they reached the mountaintop in a few minutes.
Drifting and braking sharply, Jiang Ning jumped out of the car and said, “Doudou, Coke, pack up!”
As she ran to the rooftop, the distant black clouds had expanded to twice their size, while the sunlight at the seaside was weakening.
Without any hesitation, Jiang Ning quickly dismantled the solar panels, while Huo Yishen turned off the power and swiftly collected the electrical grid like lightning.
Doudou was puzzled, but seeing the change in her siblings’ expressions, she helped pack things up: kitchen appliances, clothes, bedding and other things that they can packed.
The dog was no exception, as it dragged mops, vacuum cleaners, and its bed into the living room.
Huo Yishen packed up the electrical appliances, went upstairs to help Jiang Ning dismantle the solar panels, and the two of them dismantled and assembled while occasionally glancing at the mushroom cloud.
Just as she looked up inadvertently, Jiang Ning seemed to see lightning. There was lightning in the mushroom cloud, and the dark clouds were constantly churning.
She took out her binoculars and saw waves rising at the end of the sea.
“A big storm is brewing,” Huo Yishen said gravely. “If we’re unlucky, there’s a high chance of a tsunami.”
Tsunami? Jiang Ning shuddered. She hadn’t experienced one personally, but she had seen it in movies.
Suddenly, her heart felt suffocated.
