Chapter 85 : This is the only use my daughter has
“General Huo wants me to discuss the wedding date with your father?”
This was Huo Zhen’s first time formally dealing with Song Jinzhuo. He was a bit nervous, but since Song Ying had given him the go-ahead, he came.
But once he was actually face-to-face with the man, Huo Zhen started to worry ‘Can this really work?’
“Uh, yes. Aying and I want to get married as soon as possible. We checked the dates and found that the 26th of this month is a good day.”
Song Jinzhuo didn’t respond. He just sat there sipping tea.
Huo Zhen grew impatient. After waiting for a moment, he asked, “What do you think, Marquis Song? Is that date acceptable?”
Song Jinzhuo chuckled, “Of course. After all, it’s your marriage to Aying if you think it’s a good date, that’s all that matters.”
‘Song Ying was right,’ Huo Zhen thought.
Hearing such considerate words, if Huo Zhen didn’t already know what kind of person Song Jinzhuo was, he might’ve really believed he was a kind and supportive elder.
“What about my father…?” he asked cautiously.
Song Jinzhuo gently set his teacup down and said in a friendly tone, “Since this is a good thing for both families, it’s only proper for me to go meet my in-law.”
After thanking him, Huo Zhen went back to find Song Ying.
“See? What did I tell you? If it benefits the Song family, my father will always agree.”
But Huo Zhen didn’t say anything. He just frowned.
Song Ying waved a hand in front of his face. “What’s wrong? Are you still dazed from being scared by my dad?”
Huo Zhen took her hand and replied, “Who’s scared of him? I just don’t like dealing with him.”
Song Ying said, “Me neither.”
Liu Lingyan’s family was still there. When they saw Huo Zhen return, the two children ran toward him.
“Uncle, let’s climb the mountain!”
Huo Zhen reached out to protect them, letting the two kids climb all over him.
While the children were being entertained by the two men, Song Ying and Liu Lingyan went to sit inside the house.
“Let me guess,” Liu Lingyan said. “Song Shihe offended Huo Zhen by being a jerk?”
Song Ying nodded.
She had asked Huo Zhen about it earlier. Apparently, Song Shihe didn’t recognize him and assumed he was just another guest there to offer congratulations. He kept bad-mouthing Song Ying, repeatedly calling her a divorced woman, until Huo Zhen couldn’t take it anymore and punched him a few times.
The guy was completely stunned.
Then Huo Zhen introduced himself: “Listen to me. I’m the husband of Princess Changyin. If I hear one more disgusting word out of you, I’ll knock out all your teeth!”
Liu Lingyan burst out laughing with glee. “What a pity! I wish I had seen that.”
Song Ying laughed too. “Same here.”
After some time, Huo Zhen and Yang Hu, Mo Qi left to return to the military camp. Liu Lingyan also took the children home. Around that time, Xiaomi mentioned that Master Yu had asked Song Ying to return to Xiaohanju, so everyone went their separate ways.
Song Ying was still the same as always. She returned to Xiaohanju by carriage, only to find Yu Liang leaning against the carriage, waiting for her.
“Guard Yu?”
Yu Liang greeted her. “Hello, Princess.”
Song Ying asked, “Did you escort Master Yu back?”
Yu Liang replied, “Yes.”
Yueshao had arranged for this because he feared Master Yu might never return again so he sent Yu Liang to ensure he did.
Song Ying entered Xiaohanju, and Master Yu greeted her first with congratulations. “Congratulations, Princess.”
“You asked me to come back, are you planning to give me a gift?”
Her relationship with Master Yu was more like that of master and disciple than friends.
“The Princess is clever,” Master Yu said, handing her a book.
When she saw the familiar handwriting on the cover, Song Ying’s hand trembled with excitement.
It was Master Yu’s research notebook!
It contained all of Master Yu’s pharmaceutical research findings.
Back when she had just started learning from him, she had wanted to read it so badly. She had begged him countless times before he finally let her glance at it a few times.
Master Yu said, “The Princess has no shortage of gold and silver jewelry, so I thought you would appreciate this more.”
“Of course I do! Thank you, Master !”
Song Ying hugged the book like a treasure.
Master Yu smiled, “As long as you like it.”
The two of them went to check on the winter grass again, but were a little disappointed.
Master Yu said, “It’s not the coldest part of the season yet. Just wait a bit longer.”
After chatting about pharmacology for a while, Master Yu was ready to return to the palace.
Before parting, Song Ying said, “If you ever want to come back and live here, you’re welcome anytime. And if you need any herbs, feel free to get them from my shop. I’ve already given instructions.”
Master Yu replied, “Since the Princess said so, I won’t stand on ceremony.”
Song Ying grinned, “I didn’t expect you to, anyway.”
Master Yu turned to Yu Liang and said, “Then let’s go to Pharmacy.”
Yu Liang answered, “Yes,” and drove the horse forward.
Faer couldn’t help but ask, “Princess, will Master Yu really stay until Miss Ruoer gives birth?”
She had been watching Master Yu’s expression earlier and felt he looked quite tired.
Song Ying replied, “If Song Ruoer hadn’t been so difficult, Master Yu might’ve stayed that long. Doctors hate it when patients won’t listen. If she keeps throwing tantrums, then it’s hard to say.”
“Master Yu has stayed this long because he wants to see how the winter grass turns out. But if he really gets fed up, he could leave and not care about anything else.”
Faer asked, “If Master Yu really gets angry and leaves, will the prince force him to stay?”
Song Ying said, “Do you know why Master Yu gave me his notes?”
Faer looked at the book in Song Ying’s hands. “Besides congratulating you, did Master Yu also want to pass his life’s work on to you?”
Song Ying replied, ” There is no need to compete with a traveling doctor. Master Yu gave me the notes just in case.”
Faer suddenly understood. “So that’s how it is. In any case, it all depends on Miss Ruoer. If she angers the master and he leaves, she’ll only have herself to blame.”
Song Ying said, “Exactly. Let’s head back.”
—
As Song Ying expected, Song Jinzhuo went to the General’s Mansion the next day. And there was another person traveling with him, that was Song Jinlan.
Song Jinlan arrived at the Marquis’ Mansion first, so Song Ying naturally went to greet her.
“Thank you, Aunt.”
Song Jinlan was in a foul mood as soon as she entered the mansion. She disliked everyone around, and even Zhou kept her distance.
Looking at Song Ying sitting calmly, she shook her head impatiently and spoke sharply: “You’re remarrying now. This time, you picked the man yourself. If things go wrong again, you’ll have to deal with it on your own. I don’t have time to worry about your third or fourth marriage.”
Song Ying lowered her eyes and answered meekly, “Understood.”
“Hmph.” Seeing Song Jinzhuo approaching, Song Jinlan stood up and walked out. “Let’s go.”
Song Jinzhuo said, “Go greet Father first.”
Song Jinlan resisted, “To Father, I’m a married daughter, spilled water. There’s no need to see him again.”
Song Jinzhuo frowned slightly, “Jinlan.”
Song Jinlan held back her temper and went anyway. When she saw Shiwu standing beside Song Yunshan, her lips curled in a cold smile.
“Your daughter greets Father.”
Song Yunshan said, “You know why I’m sending you to the Huo family.”
Song Jinlan replied, “Your daughter knows. That’s the only value I have.”
Song Yunshan asked, “Are you still resenting your father?”
Song Jinlan forced a smile. “No resentment.”
Song Yunshan turned his back and said, “Go on.”
Song Jinlan said, “Your daughter takes her leave.”
After Song Jinzhuo and his sister departed, Song Ying looked at Faer, who seemed eager to go, and asked, “You want to follow and take a look?”
Faer said, “Are you curious, Princess?”
Song Ying replied, “I’m curious. Go ahead. Be careful not to get caught.”
Faer gave a confident grin. “Don’t worry, Princess. I’m a professional!”
