Chapter 10 – He Hasn’t Even Held His Wife’s Hand Yet!
“There’s still a one percent chance, isn’t there? That’s way better than no hope at all!” Su Mujin replied without hesitation.
After all, she had spiritual spring water!
As long as Song Qinian turned out to be a truly good man, she wouldn’t mind letting him drink it.
Such a handsome man—it would be a shame if he had to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
Song Qinian had confidence in his ability to judge people.
He believed that Su Mujin was being completely sincere.
She really didn’t care about his leg!
A surge of emotion slammed into Song Qinian’s chest, making his whole body tremble slightly.
“You don’t have to worry. As long as you’re willing to stay with me, I’ll definitely treat you well!” Song Qinian said seriously.
Su Mujin smiled and nodded, “I believe you!”
There had only been vague mentions of Song Qinian in the original book, but based on their interactions over the past couple of days, he really seemed like a decent man.
He had been injured, and though his leg might not heal, he wasn’t bitter or negative. He didn’t wallow in self-pity. He respected her decisions while also trying to protect her.
On top of that, his looks and build were exactly her type. Marrying a man like this—she truly felt she’d made a great choice!
As they chatted, the jeep continued driving forward, and before long, it came to a stop.
An orderly first helped move the wheelchair down, then lifted Song Qinian into it.
Song Qinian looked up at Su Mujin, who was still in the car.
“There’s a set of clothes I prepared for you in the back. Change into them so we can take a picture later.”
He’d even prepared clothes for her?
Su Mujin looked into the backseat and sure enough, she saw a white blouse, a pair of green military-style trousers, and a pair of black leather shoes.
This was the most fashionable look of the era!
He was actually quite thoughtful!
Su Mujin pulled the curtain over the window and quickly changed into the outfit. She re-tied her hair into two neat braids.
Then she pulled out a mirror from her space, checked herself, and once satisfied with her appearance, put the mirror away and stepped out of the car.
As soon as she stood up, she noticed Song Qinian staring at her, wide-eyed and unblinking.
“What’s wrong?” Su Mujin looked down at herself. “Did I put something on wrong?”
“No,” Song Qinian’s face turned red. “You look… really beautiful.”
Su Mujin grinned, “I think I look pretty good too!”
Back then, the marriage registration process was very simple—just a piece of paper with a red official stamp on it.
It looked less like a marriage certificate and more like an award certificate.
Before registering, they had to submit documents and household registration info, which Song Qinian had already prepared.
Su Mujin’s household registration was tied to the factory—not the Su family—so they had no way to use it to control her.
After receiving the marriage certificate, the two of them went to take a wedding photo.
Both of them wore white shirts, military trousers, and black leather shoes, sitting side by side. They looked very well-matched.
The photo couldn’t be picked up right away—they’d have to wait at least three days. For now, they were just given a receipt as a claim ticket.
After leaving the photo studio, they got back into the jeep and headed straight toward the military compound.
The compound was located in a peaceful spot in the middle of the bustling city. At the entrance stood armed guards, providing a strong sense of security.
After entering the military compound, the car stopped in front of a courtyard not long after.
As soon as it came to a stop, Chen Yuehua came out of the courtyard to greet them.
When she saw Su Mujin get out of the car, she immediately grabbed her hand. “Mujin, you’re finally back! Everything went smoothly, I hope?”
Su Mujin showed her the marriage certificate. “It went great! Mom, we’ve already got our certificate!”
Hearing that crisp and sincere “Mom”, Chen Yuehua’s eyes immediately turned red.
She had once worried that her son, with his leg injury, would be alone for the rest of his life.
She never imagined that he’d end up marrying such a beautiful daughter-in-law!
“Good, good!” Chen Yuehua smiled and responded warmly, holding tightly to Su Mujin’s hand, unwilling to let go. “From now on, this is your home!”
Song Qinian, who had just been pushed over in his wheelchair, subconsciously glanced at their clasped hands.
His wife’s hand… he hadn’t even held it yet!
The group entered the courtyard and were led directly to a room on the first floor.
“Qinian’s room used to be on the second floor,” Chen Yuehua explained, “but since his leg isn’t convenient now, we moved his room downstairs. The furniture and wardrobe were all changed just last night. Mujin, take a look—if there’s anything you don’t like or anything that’s missing, just say so. Don’t be shy!”
Su Mujin looked around the room and smiled, shaking her head. “Mom, there’s really nothing missing. This is already amazing!”
There was a large double bed, a redwood wardrobe, a redwood vanity, as well as a clothes rack and writing desk.
Even more impressively, there was a private bathroom!
Su Mujin went to check—it was spacious, with a shower, sink, and even a flushing toilet!
She remembered reading in a research report that as early as the 1950s, government offices and foreign hotels in Beijing had started using flush toilets.
Now it was already the 1970s, and the Song family wasn’t an ordinary household, so it made sense they’d have one.
But for Su Mujin, having a flush toilet was a delightful surprise—it would vastly improve her quality of life.
Chen Yuehua didn’t stay long. “You two chat for a while. I’ll call you when it’s time for lunch.”
When she left, she even thoughtfully closed the door behind her.
The room’s window faced the west side of the courtyard, not the main entrance. Unless someone specifically looked their way, nothing inside could be seen, so their privacy was ensured—without sacrificing natural light.
While Su Mujin was still surveying the room, she heard Song Qinian’s gentle voice:
“There’s a box on the vanity. I prepared something for you. See if you like it.”
“What is it?”
Su Mujin walked over as she spoke.
On the vanity was a wooden jewelry box, carved and intricately detailed—it looked expensive.
She opened the top lid, and in that moment, was almost blinded by the dazzling shine.
Inside were numerous gold ornaments!
Su Mujin opened the lower drawers one by one, her senses gradually going numb from the sheer volume.
There were gold bangles, bracelets, rings, necklaces, hairpins—and in the very bottom drawer, twenty gold bars, each weighing 50 grams.
And that wasn’t all.
There were also several jadeite bangles and rings, vibrant green in color—clearly worth a fortune.
Su Mujin slowly turned to look at Song Qinian.
“All this… is for me?”
“Yes,” Song Qinian nodded. “Do you like it? These were all prepared by my mom. She said they’re for her future daughter-in-law.”
“I do like it,” Su Mujin said honestly.
Who wouldn’t like this?!
