“Before Being Sent Down, the Capitalist’s Daughter Took Her Whole Family to Join the Army” Chapter 9

Chapter 9: The Old Man Is Willing to Testify

Jiang Tangtang did a quick calculation in her head — this only cost six yuan in total. It was a great deal.

So, without a second thought, she immediately confirmed the purchase.

Moments later, the small medicinal herb she had selected began watering and fertilizing itself automatically, and a countdown to its maturity appeared on the large screen.

Jiang Tangtang glanced at it — it would take about an hour to mature.

That was good enough for her. However, she had only watered one herb. The rest still had to be bought from the herbal medicine shop.

To save time, she exited the space again. Since no one was home, she took some cash she had stashed on top of her wardrobe and rushed out to find a herbal medicine shop.

Her family owned a pharmacy too, but she was afraid of being found out, so she dared not buy anything there. She had to go elsewhere.

Having lived in this area for years, she knew exactly where the herbal medicine shops were, so it didn’t take long before she found one.

Arriving at the shop, Jiang Tangtang directly recited the prescription to the pharmacist.

“I’m just here to get some herbs for my family. I forgot to bring the prescription, but I remember all of it.”

“Five qian of licorice root, one qian of rehmannia, one qian of water buffalo horn…”

In total, there were fourteen herbs, and she rattled them all off in one breath.

The pharmacist was clearly experienced. As soon as she finished, he quickly started gathering the herbs.

“You’ve got a good memory, young lady! But I think you’re missing one — this formula sounds really familiar to me.”

The shopkeeper could tell right away — this formula was good for reducing fever and stopping bleeding, often used to treat marrow disorders caused by excessive heat and toxins. He pulled out a yellow sheet of paper and wrapped up the herbs.

“That last herb — we have it at home. My family member is a traditional doctor, so I know what’s what.”

Realizing the shopkeeper was an expert, Jiang Tangtang explained politely.

That last herb was rare and potent — it wasn’t easy to find in regular shops, so she had no choice but to grow it in her spatial field, hoping to stabilize the effect of the medicine.

“I see. Looks like your family really knows their stuff. That herb is definitely hard to find.”

Tying the herbs up with hemp rope, the shopkeeper handed the bundle to Jiang Tangtang, and she paid him.

“Yeah, my family once dug some up in Changbai Mountain — lucky, really, or we wouldn’t have been able to handle this.”

After that, she said goodbye to the shopkeeper and rushed home with the herbs.

When she reached the front door, she didn’t want to run into anyone, so she placed the herb bundle into her space first and then casually returned to her room.

Carefully locking the door behind her, she slipped back into her space and headed straight for the field control console.

She calculated the time she had spent buying herbs — just around an hour.

Sure enough, when she got to the field, the spot where she had planted the rare herb now had a fully matured plant, covered in dewdrops and glowing with a spiritual shimmer unique to rare herbs.

“It actually worked!” Jiang Tangtang grinned with joy and harvested the herb.

She gently pinched the plant and brought it to her nose to sniff.

“This space is amazing. I can’t believe it managed to grow this kind of spiritual herb. Perfect to combine with the others.”

Taking all the herbs, she returned to her three-story mini mansion and found a clay pot. She put all the herbs in, brought it to a boil over high heat for about ten minutes, then turned it to low and simmered for another half hour.

Eventually, all the liquid in the pot evaporated, leaving only a thick, black, sticky paste at the bottom. That’s when Jiang Tangtang turned off the heat.

“It’s done!”

She grabbed a spoon and removed the herbs, leaving only the thick paste, which she scooped into a bowl.

This bowl of medicine was her last hope to save Old Zheng’s grandson, so she carried it with extreme care.

To be safe, she went to Old Zheng’s house and waited until no one was around before bringing the medicine to the door.

After two knocks, Old Zheng hurried over to open the door.

“It’s you, Tangtang? The medicine… it’s already done? But why does it look…”

He hesitated as he looked at the dark, sticky substance in the bowl.

“Don’t worry, Grandpa. Trust me. This medicine will work. Let’s not waste time — treating the illness is more important.”

“Alright, alright.”

At this point, they’d already tried so many remedies. What was one more? He let her in and quickly locked the door behind her.

As they chatted, Jiang Tangtang followed him into his grandson’s room with the bowl in hand.

No one was sure if it was side effects from other medicine, but the boy had been sleeping all day, barely waking at all.

Old Zheng was constantly worried but helpless.

Seeing this, Jiang Tangtang quickly gave instructions.

“Old Zheng, please get a glass of water and help prop him up. Open his mouth too — I’m afraid he might choke.”

“Okay, I’ll get water right away.”

Strangely, just smelling the medicine made Old Zheng feel a spark of hope. Maybe it really would work. So, he followed all her instructions without hesitation.

After fetching the water, he sat on the bed, gently propped his frail grandson up, and leaned him against his shoulder.

As he sat up, the boy suddenly opened his eyes and became alert.

“Grandpa? What are we doing?”

His voice was weak and breathy, eyes only half open, looking pitiful.

Soft-hearted, Jiang Tangtang stirred the medicine and blew away the steam before scooping up a spoonful and holding it to his lips.

“This is medicine to help you recover. I even added some brown sugar to boost your energy. It may not look nice, but the effect will be great. Trust me. Go ahead, eat it.”

“My sweet boy, listen to Aunt Tangtang. Take the medicine — you’ll get better after this.”

Seeing his grandson like this, Old Zheng was choking back tears. He wanted nothing more than for this medicine to work.

The boy looked between his grandfather and Jiang Tangtang, then finally opened his mouth and swallowed the medicine.

It wasn’t too bitter — Jiang Tangtang had adjusted the taste with brown sugar. The boy behaved admirably and quickly finished the entire bowl.

Seeing him swallow the last spoonful, Jiang Tangtang handed over the cup of water from the bedside so he could rinse his mouth and wash the medicine down completely.

It was a bit tough to swallow, and after finishing, the boy lay back down to rest and let the medicine take effect.

Not wanting to disturb him, Jiang Tangtang dragged Old Zheng outside to play chess.

Though the medicine was good, it would still take time to be absorbed. She didn’t want the old man to worry by staring anxiously at his grandson.

But after only half an hour, the boy suddenly shouted from inside the room.

“Grandpa, Grandpa! I think I have strength again!”

While lying in bed, he could feel a warmth spreading through his body like a fire moving through his limbs and eventually returning to his belly before fading away.

And just like that, he suddenly felt strength in his body and was able to sit up on his own.

Hearing the long-lost sound of “Grandpa,” Old Zheng was so excited he dropped his chess piece and rushed into the room.

He was stunned to see his grandson, who hadn’t gotten out of bed in months, standing and drinking water.

“Xiao Ze… You, you really…”

His voice trembled. Overwhelmed with joy, he didn’t know what to do. He could hardly believe what he was seeing!

“You see? I wasn’t lying. My medicine really works,” Jiang Tangtang said with pride, looking even happier than the old man.

Now, not only did she have her witness — she also proved that the field in her space was a spiritually rich treasure land. How could she not be thrilled?

“I don’t even know how to thank you, Tangtang. Tell you what — whenever you need, I’ll go testify for you right now!”

“But… I’m afraid the medicine needs to be taken a few more times. Could I trouble you to prepare a few more doses…”

Old Zheng felt awkward asking for help again, so he spoke with hesitation.

“Don’t worry, Grandpa. He can’t take too much medicine at once. Let him absorb this dose first — I’ll bring more later.”

Sensing his anxiety, Jiang Tangtang reassured him with confidence.

“Alright, alright! I’ll pack up now and hide my grandson somewhere safe, then go testify for you!”
