Chapter 15: The Police Come to Your Door
“I’m here to buy some medicinal herb seeds and seedlings.”
Yu Jingchuan stated his purpose directly, without any politeness.
Wen Shubai was surprised. “What do you need these for?”
Yu Jingchuan looked at Lin Yitang beside him, his meaning clear: he was just a guide.
Wen Shubai looked at Lin Yitang, his gaze falling on her plain yet exquisite face, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
“This is…”
Seeing this, Lin Yitang quickly greeted him, “Hello, my name is Lin Yitang.”
Hearing her name, Wen Shubai knew her identity. She was the girl who had been staying at the Yu family’s home and had been clinging to Jingchuan.
“Wen Shubai.”
Wen Shubai nodded, stating his name, his attitude cold.
Lin Yitang wasn’t surprised. In her past life, she had met Wen Shubai a few times, but he had always been unfriendly towards her, believing she had tarnished his good brother.
He was only outwardly gentle; inwardly, he was arrogant and aloof.
“Just tell Shubai what herbs you want. His family has a large herb field behind the shop.”
Yu Jingchuan didn’t want to owe Lin Yitang anything. Since she had made this request, he wanted to fulfill it quickly to avoid further entanglement.
Lin Yitang was prepared. She took out a list from her pocket and handed it to Wen Shubai.
Wen Shubai took it, glanced at Lin Yitang in surprise.
“You’re buying so many medicinal herb seeds and seedlings. Do you plan to grow them yourself?”
Lin Yitang didn’t explain much, simply nodding.
“These herbs are difficult to grow. Most people can’t cultivate them successfully, and you probably won’t find a large enough space. If you need these herbs, you can buy them directly from our shop.”
“I just want to try growing some myself. The rest have other uses.”
Seeing Lin Yitang’s determination, Wen Shubai didn’t say anything more and took Lin Yitang directly to the herb field in the backyard.
The Wen family had been traditional Chinese medicine practitioners for generations and were very famous in Beijing. Behind Jirentang was a small hill, which the Wen family had leased for growing herbs.
Seeing the vast herb field, Lin Yitang was amazed. If only her space could be filled with these herbs.
Wen Shubai helped Lin Yitang dig up some seedlings and find some herb seeds. In the end, it filled a large cardboard box, which Lin Yitang couldn’t carry.
“Let me.”
Yu Jingchuan took the box, gave Wen Shubai two hundred yuan, and then left with Lin Yitang.
On the way back, Lin Yitang walked quickly, eager to plant the herbs in her jade bracelet space.
Yu Jingchuan sensed her joy, but he didn’t know why she was so happy, nor what she intended to do with the herbs.
Back at the Yu family’s home, Lin Yitang quickly pushed the box into her room.
After locking the door, Lin Yitang took the box of herbs into her space and began planting.
She didn’t know much about the habits of these herbs, but it didn’t matter. As long as they were planted in this space, they would definitely survive.
After more than two hours, Lin Yitang finally finished planting the herbs, exhausted and breathless. She drank some spring water before recovering.
Exiting the space, she saw it was almost noon. Lin Yitang quickly went downstairs to prepare lunch; she was very hungry!
Zhang had already prepared lunch, and Chu Peilan and Yu Jingchuan were sitting at the dining table. Lin Yitang quickly went downstairs and sat down, just as a knock came at the door.
“I’ll answer the door!”
Zhang was puzzled; she didn’t know who would come at this time.
She quickly went to the door and opened it to see two policemen standing outside, instantly dumbfounded.
“Who are you looking for?”
“Is Lin Yitang here?” the leading police officer said seriously.
Zhang nodded. “Yes, is there something wrong?”
“We suspect Lin Yitang of intentionally harming others and need to take her to the police station for questioning. Please have her come out immediately to cooperate with our investigation.”
Hearing this, Zhang was stunned. Intentionally harming others?
“Officer, are you sure you have the right person?”
“We need to investigate further. Please let us in.”
Zhang could only make way, watching the two policemen enter.
When Chu Peilan learned that the policemen were looking for Lin Yitang, she frowned. She didn’t believe Lin Yitang would do such a thing; there must be a misunderstanding.
Chu Peilan was about to ask when Lin Yitang said, “Okay, I’ll go with you.”
She knew it was Liu Xiaotong’s doing, but it didn’t matter; she had anticipated this and had a solution.
Watching Lin Yitang leave with the policemen, Yu Jingchuan stood up.
“I’ll go and see what’s happening.”
He shouldn’t get involved, but he couldn’t control himself. After all, Lin Yitang was treating his mother’s legs; he couldn’t just watch her get into trouble.
When Lin Yitang arrived at the police station, she saw Liu Xiaotong sitting inside, along with her uncle, Liu Dayong, and aunt, Wang Xiulian.
After a few days, Liu Xiaotong looked very haggard, her eyes swollen like walnuts, and her face bruised.
The moment she saw Lin Yitang, her eyes turned fierce, her hatred unconcealed, her face contorted.
“Lin Yitang, you Bitch! You ruined me. Are you very happy?”
Liu Xiaotong wished Lin Yitang were dead. She didn’t dare to recall what she had experienced that day, but it had happened, and she couldn’t change it.
She couldn’t forget the feeling of Wang Wenqiang’s greasy body on hers, his foul smelling mouth kissing her.
Drugged, she hadn’t resisted but had responded enthusiastically. They were like beasts, doing unspeakable things in the deserted alley.
Fortunately, before anyone saw them, they regained some sense, quickly dressing themselves, saving face; otherwise, they would have been ruined!
But that wasn’t the worst. The drug was too potent; they almost lost control again, going to Wang Wenqiang’s house and indulging in their primal desires.
Wang Wenqiang’s mother came home and saw everything, grabbing Liu Xiaotong’s hair and beating her severely, accusing her of seducing her precious son.
During a fierce argument, Wang Wenqiang finally came to his senses, realizing how much his hand hurt, and insisted on going to the hospital.
Wang Wenqiang’s mother thought her son had been injured by Liu Xiaotong and beat her, dragging her to the hospital.
Liu Xiaotong fainted at the hospital and woke up to learn that she had been injured and would likely have difficulty having children.
The news was like a bolt from the blue. Liu Xiaotong couldn’t accept it and cried.
But Wang Wenqiang’s parents didn’t let her off.
