In the following days, Huo Yishen stayed put. He either trained his dog or his sister and sparred with Jiang Ning.
Meals were delivered punctually three times a day.
When they were really bored, they played three-person Landlord. He was afraid that Doudou’s IQ was not enough, so he put the dog in a group with her.
As long as the people in the base did not invite him, the three people and the dog would not step out of the door.
After the apocalypse, this would have driven people crazy, but after surviving two years of natural disasters, they had grown accustomed to it.
In the apocalypse, those who could stay indoors were the true winners.
Meanwhile, the conflict between Qinggang and Leilong was intensifying. Feng Kunpeng, being paranoid and fearing death, was unwilling to gamble away his current good life; on the other hand, Leilong, with his bad temper and ruthless nature, appeared more aggressive.
Transitioning from frugality to luxury is easy, but going from luxury back to frugality is hard.
In the past, they received several truckloads of supplies every day and lived comfortably. Now, with the fierce fighting between the two sides, they were barely getting half a truckload daily, leaving the men under them struggling.
These men, who lived on the edge, were fine when living large, but now that they had to tighten their belts, dissatisfaction quickly spread.
They couldn’t understand why they didn’t just wipe out Leilong’s base and kept retreating instead.
“Damn it, why not just hand the base over to them?”
The underlings were anxious, and Feng Kunpeng was even more stressed.
He knew well that having supporters made one a leader; without them, one was nothing.
If this continued, not only would his men disrespect him, but they might also rebel or leave the base.
Whether he wanted to or not, a fight was inevitable.
Eventually, he chose to fight.
After monitoring for several days, he found nothing unusual about Huo Yishen’s behavior, except that their nightly activities seemed a bit short.
He didn’t expect someone so skilled to be a “three-minute man.”
Feng Kunpeng felt some sympathy for his outwardly strong but inwardly weak opponent, especially for the beautiful woman beside him.
Huo Yishen felt awkward too. “Is this really necessary?”
Jiang Ning replied, “What else can we do?”
This was a precious three-minute clip she had found among a mountain of videos that she have.
If they didn’t do something while sharing a bed every night, Feng Kunpeng would definitely get suspicious.
Would he be willing to do a live action on one side while there’s people getting excited on the other?
Even if he was okay with it, Jiang Ning would never agree.
Finally, Huo Yishen compromised but, not wanting her to misunderstand, he awkwardly explained, “You know, I’m definitely not just a three-minute man.”
Jiang Ning understood immediately and felt embarrassed. “Oh.”
He spoke as if he was very experienced, but in their previous life, he had never even had a girlfriend.
Back in the room, as she was about to play the video but there was a sudden knock on the door.
Feng Kunpeng could no longer hold back.
He came bearing good food and drinks and he even brought a whole roast chicken for the dog.
“Brother Huo, we’ve decided to fight to the death with Leilong’s base.”
Feng Kunpeng spoke humbly, “But as you know, my men are good at collecting protection fees, while the key figures over there are skilled fighters. This battle will be very dangerous. Do you have any good suggestions?”
Huo Yishen, not wanting to seem ungrateful, asked in detail about their numbers, weapons, and the geographical layout.
Leilong’s base, being newly established, didn’t have the advantage in numbers but had fiercely brave fighters. On the other hand, Feng Kunpeng’s side had more weapons and better knowledge of the surrounding terrain.
Huo Yishen considered for a moment and then said, “If we fight openly, neither side will come out well, so we must use some strategy.”
Feng Kunpeng agreed wholeheartedly. If all his people got eliminated, what good would it do him to remain the base leader with an empty title?
Jiang Ning suggested, “Capture the ringleader first; shoot the horse before the rider.”
Feng Kunpeng dismissed the idea, “I’ve thought of that, but their base leader is too cunning and never shows himself.”
Jiang Ning smiled slightly, “What if you invite him to a sit-down meeting?”
Feng Kunpeng was taken aback.
Jiang Ning explained, “You’ve been at a stalemate these past few days, with neither side gaining an advantage. If you keep fighting, it’s a lose-lose situation for both sides. If you can lure him out, things will get much easier.”
Feng Kunpeng was skeptical, “Just lure him out?”
“Brother Feng, don’t forget what my Ah Shen used to do,” Jiang Ning smiled confidently. “He often dealt with the most dangerous criminals and is an expert in ambush tactics. With a top-notch sniper rifle, even a target of 3000 meters away wouldn’t be a problem. Once their leader is taken out, the rest of their rabble won’t be much of a threat.”
This was exactly why Feng Kunpeng had been treating Huo Yishen so well. But he still had concerns, “I believe Brother Huo can hit the target accurately, but what about the scene afterward?”
If their leader died, there wouldn’t be enough time to escape before being gunned down by the others.
Jiang Ning glanced at the dog gnawing on a chicken leg, “Every leg it eats is earned. Brother Feng, do you know why the bomb that night didn’t hit us?”
Her words hit a sore spot, making Feng Kunpeng slightly embarrassed but also very curious.
“It’s a high-standard police dog we trained for two years. It can not only sniff out gunpowder but also carry explosives to blow up bunkers.”
The dog, upon hearing its mention, stopped gnawing the chicken leg and barked, “Woof.” No problem!
Huo Yishen then laid out the plan, “All you need to do is lure the leader out under the guise of peace talks to draw their attention. Coke will hide the explosives as close to them as possible. I will take out the leader with the first shot and trigger the explosion with the second. This plan minimizes casualties. Once they’re taken out, you can march straight to their base and take over.”
He concluded, “This is just my suggestion. It’s up to you whether to execute it or not.”
Jiang Ning added, “If you think the plan isn’t feasible, we lose nothing; but if you think it is and it succeeds, we expect a reward.”
This was the first time Feng Kunpeng had encountered someone negotiating right from the start. Though internally displeased, he maintained his usual courteous demeanor, “Sister-in-law, please speak. Our base has always rewarded merit generously. As long as we can eliminate Leilong’s base, there will be substantial rewards.”
Jiang Ning was straightforward, “We want a standalone villa and cattle and sheep.”
This took Feng Kunpeng by surprise. He expected them to demand a high-ranking position, at least for the thrill of power.
“We’re not interested in power; we just want to live comfortably and freely. We can help when needed but prefer not to be bothered otherwise. How does that sound?”
“Hahaha, not a problem at all.” He thought to himself, do they really treat the base as their own home? Coming and going as they please, indeed!
Once they take down Leilong’s base will also be the day these two meet their end!
