Chapter 9
Why were they here?
Because the system refused to cooperate, she knew absolutely nothing about the original host’s past!
She hesitated and didn’t speak.
Lu Yancheng didn’t really want her to go back to the educated youth spot. “There’s a phone at the military district. Go call from there.”
Song Si: “Okay.”
Secretary Wang was just about to say something, but upon seeing their attitude, swallowed his words and nodded repeatedly, “That’s fine.”
Lu Yancheng said, “Secretary Wang, we’ll be leaving now.”
Secretary Wang smiled and nodded, “Alright, alright.”
Their village had benefited greatly from its connection to the military district—it had electricity and a telephone early on, one of the fastest developments in the entire country. Plenty of people were envious of them.
He watched Song Si and Lu Yancheng walk away, his expression a bit complicated.
Did Educated Youth Song really not like Educated Youth Gu anymore?
Although he didn’t want to say anything, it was true that she used to be quite fond of Gu Chen!
The bicycle that Gu Chen rode was said to be part of the bride price Lu Yancheng had given to Song Si back then!
Oh, and not just that—Gu Chen’s radio and watch were also rumored to be gifts from Song Si, which were supposedly part of Lu Yancheng’s original betrothal gifts too.
Of course, no one could be sure. No one had the guts to directly ask Song Si or Lu Yancheng.
But in those days, well-off families often included the “three rounds and one sound” as a betrothal gift. With Lu Yancheng’s background, he definitely could’ve provided those.
But to give away two rounds and one sound to someone else?
Only the sewing machine had no use for a man—otherwise, Song Si might have given that to Gu Chen as well!
Thinking of this, he shook his head, feeling that Lu Yancheng had been taken advantage of.
People heading to work in the village also looked toward Lu Yancheng and Song Si, clicking their tongues in wonder. Some nosy ones even watched Gu Chen’s reaction.
As an educated youth, Gu Chen had relatively light work. Seeing Song Si never even glance at him once made him feel sour. Standing under the scorching sun, his face looked grim.
Especially when he saw her arm wrapped intimately around Lu Yancheng’s waist—it was an eyesore!
Still, it was true that the Lu family had money. The only reason Gu Chen was living comfortably in the countryside was because of the monthly allowance Lu Yancheng gave Song Si.
Thinking about it, he snorted inwardly. So what if Lu Yancheng had a good family background, a promising job, and a bright future?
His wife was still thinking about him every day—always sending him good things!
…
Back at the military district, after putting their things away, Lu Yancheng took Song Si to the telephone room.
Song Si held the phone, feeling troubled.
She didn’t know the number!
Lu Yancheng, worried she might not want to speak in front of him, even stepped outside to wait.
Song Si looked at his back with her clear, sparkling eyes.
Under the sunlight, he stood there tall and straight in his Zhongshan suit. His posture was impeccable—he really had the body of a natural clothes model.
Even in her past life, those brothers of hers who prided themselves on their good looks couldn’t compare to him.
Desire is human nature!
She was only human! In her past life, when she returned to the Song family, looked down upon by the upper class, busy just trying to survive, the only time she indulged in anything was when she scrolled short videos to look at handsome men. Her virtue had only been maintained thanks to her poverty!
But now the man in front of her was her legal husband. Maybe it was time to toss aside that “virtue”?
He had said they’d consummate the marriage tonight!
Almost as if sensing her gaze, Lu Yancheng turned around and saw her staring at him. He asked in a low voice, “What is it?”
Song Si replied frankly, “I forgot the phone number.”
Hearing that, Lu Yancheng was clearly surprised and paused for a few seconds before reciting the number to her uncle’s house.
Song Si dialed, feeling a bit nervous. Once the call connected, she softly said, “Hello.”
She didn’t want to say too much—afraid of giving herself away.
On the other end of the line, Song Dalong and Li Li exchanged a complicated look, unsure how to start.
It was only just now that they had learned—Si Si was not their biological daughter!
“Dad, Mom?”
Upon hearing her voice, Li Li quickly responded, “Si Si, how have you been lately?”
Song Si: “Pretty good.”
Li Li paused, then hesitantly asked, “Si Si, how have things been between you and Yancheng lately?”
Song Si paused.
Why did that question sound… off?
Was she overthinking it?
Maybe it was because of the betrayal in her past life—now that she was reborn, she was extra sensitive.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Li Li breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
So, it seemed Si Si still didn’t like Yancheng. She let out another sigh, as if a burden had been lifted. “Si Si, your dad and I will visit you in the countryside in a few days. There’s something we need to talk to you about.”
Song Si felt a sense of dread.
Well, of course!
The system had failed with her—so it couldn’t just sit still, right?
Was the “real and fake daughter” storyline about to begin again?
She replied softly, “Okay.”
Li Li continued, “Your dad and I have thought long and hard…”
Song Dalong lightly cleared his throat, “Let’s not rush it, honey. We’ll talk when we get there.”
Li Li: “Alright, Si Si, you go back to what you were doing.”
Song Si: “Okay.”
Just as she finished speaking, the line disconnected. The sudden “beep, beep” sound was a bit harsh.
They did find out she wasn’t their biological daughter, didn’t they?
In this lifetime, she hadn’t planned on seeking out the original host’s biological parents, but clearly, not everything would go as she hoped.
She was still lost in thought when Lu Yancheng came into the phone room, a little worried. “What’s wrong? Did something happen with Uncle Song and Auntie Li?”
Song Si came back to herself and put down the phone. “No.”
The system wanted her to be a virtuous supporting character—but wasn’t Gu Chen the male lead in the book? They couldn’t just swap him out, right?
Since she wasn’t going to be the virtuous supporting role anymore…
She looked at Lu Yancheng and reached out to hold his hand. “Hubby.”
Lu Yancheng: “Mm.”
He looked at her.
Song Si’s attitude today was unusually affectionate.
He had exhausted some energy on their trip into the city and thought his restlessness had been relieved—but in this moment, just from her calling him “hubby” and taking his hand, his body responded again.
Song Si said, “Let’s go home.”
Lu Yancheng’s voice became hoarse, “Mm.”
The two of them walked back hand-in-hand. Along the way, many people greeted Lu Yancheng, calling her “sister-in-law” or “Comrade Xiao Song.”
Song Si greeted them all politely.
By the time they got back to Lu Yancheng’s single dormitory, it was already late.
Lu Yancheng instinctively closed the door and looked at Song Si, his dark eyes lighting up with a flame.
Song Si’s cheeks turned slightly pink. “Hubby, have we really never consummated our marriage?”
Lu Yancheng’s tanned skin immediately turned a shade darker. “Mm.”
Song Si’s voice became much softer, with a naturally sweet tone. “I think Uncle Chen and Auntie Qin are right. You’re not getting any younger. We really should have a child.”
Hearing that, Lu Yancheng couldn’t hold back anymore.
He was at the peak of youth, and with the afternoon’s medicinal aid, his strong arms suddenly pulled Song Si into his embrace and held her tightly.
Song Si felt a bit nervous.
Since heaven had let her be reborn and given her an outstanding husband, she absolutely wasn’t going to let the tragedy of her previous life repeat itself!
She was going to live well and fully enjoy her life!
She wrapped her arms around his waist. “Then let’s have a baby.”
Lu Yancheng’s breathing grew heavy. Even though he tried to restrain himself, he leaned down and kissed her on the forehead. His body was burning hot. “I heard it hurts a bit for girls the first time. Try to bear with it. I also prepared some lubricating oil ahead of time.”
Song Si: “Mm.”
Lu Yancheng lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Song Si could smell a faint mint scent on him—just like the one on his bed. It was refreshing and soothing.
But he seemed a bit clumsy, not very good at kissing, and even bit her lips, making them sore.
Of course, she wasn’t exactly experienced either!
While still kissing her, Lu Yancheng lifted her onto the bed. His strong body pressed down firmly against hers as he freed one hand to begin undressing.
Suddenly, he noticed the curtains hadn’t been drawn and stopped. “Let me close the curtains.”
Song Si: “Mm.”
She lay there and quietly took off her outer coat.
Of course, she didn’t take everything off—she’d leave a little for him to handle.
When Lu Yancheng turned around again, blood rushed to his head.
They had been married for a year—and this was the first time he had ever seen her like this!
