Chapter 10: Healing the Pigs

Lin Shuqiao quickly walked to the pigsty behind the man.

Zhao Dahai hesitated for a moment but eventually followed her.

Seeing this, the others followed too, though their expressions showed they didn’t take Lin Shuqiao’s words seriously at all.

“Look here.” Lin Shuqiao pointed at the pigsty. “Isn’t this place directly exposed to the sun?”

“The outside temperature is over 30 degrees right now. The pigsty is hot and poorly ventilated—the temperature inside is likely at least 40 degrees.”

“And look—the afternoon sun shines directly into the pen. Wouldn’t the pigs get sick because of that?”

As soon as she mentioned the sun, Zhao Dahai had already gotten up from the ground. Now, after listening to her analysis, his face showed disbelief. “Could it really be heatstroke?”

Lin Shuqiao nodded.

But others were skeptical. An older man immediately mocked, “What do you mean by heat and sunlight? We’ve been raising pigs for years—you think we can’t tell the difference between heatstroke and swine fever?”

“Just look at those pigs—they clearly have swine fever. And there are so many sick pigs in the pen—don’t tell me they all got heatstroke?”

“Little girl, have you even raised pigs before? Do you know how serious a swine fever outbreak can be?”

By the end, his tone had turned cold—clearly not buying Lin Shuqiao’s explanation.

Zhao Dahai quickly tried to ease the tension. “Uncle Wang, don’t get upset—don’t take it personally with a young girl.”

Then he sighed in distress. “Don’t worry, I’ll call someone to handle the pigs today. I won’t let them threaten everyone else’s livestock.”

Uncle Wang’s tone softened a little. He looked at Zhao Dahai and sighed. “Don’t be too hard on yourself. No one wants swine fever. You’ll get back on your feet eventually.”

Zhao Dahai covered his face and sighed deeply.

“What if I can cure the pigs?” Lin Shuqiao suddenly said.

Still frustrated, Zhao Dahai looked up and gave a bitter smile. “Girl, don’t mess with me. Just go home.”

But Lin Shuqiao’s expression was serious. “I’m being honest. Look, the pigs are already like this. If I manage to cure them, sell them to me at half price. If I fail, I’ll take care of disposing of them. You just need to cover the cost of the medicine. How about it?”

Zhao Dahai was doubtful. “You can really cure them?”

After all, there were 20–30 pigs. If he had to cull them all, it would be heartbreaking—this farm was his entire livelihood.

Lin Shuqiao walked to the entrance of the pigsty. “How would you know if we don’t try? Do you agree to the deal?”

Zhao Dahai sighed. “Fine.”

Either way, it was hard work dealing with them. Whether she succeeded or failed, he wouldn’t lose anything.

After giving a few instructions to Lu Ziqi, Lin Shuqiao stepped into the pigsty.

Inside, there were around 20–30 pigs. Roughly a third of them looked very weak. She inspected each one carefully and quickly developed a plan.

In her previous life, she had founded the Lin Group in South Province step by step. Back then, she had even studied veterinary practices specifically for treating pigs.

Facing away from the others outside the sty, Lin Shuqiao summoned the space in her mind and started rummaging through the livestock hospital section.

She had only glanced at the livestock hospital before, but now realized how well-equipped it was. Not only did it contain medicines and treatments, some even came with prescriptions.

She immediately opened the “Pig Heatstroke” section, spent some credits to buy the required medicine and injections, and began treating the pigs one by one.

After administering the injections, she asked Zhao Dahai to hang up a few sun-blocking cloths over the pigsty to reduce direct heat, while still allowing ventilation.

The pigs still didn’t look great after the injections—they lay unmoving.

Glancing around, Lin Shuqiao couldn’t help but notice how poor the pigsty’s ventilation was. Though Zhao Dahai clearly kept the place clean, he hadn’t factored in heat dispersion at all.

Clearly, basic pig-farming medical knowledge wasn’t yet widespread.

After thinking for a moment, she waited for Zhao Dahai to refill the water trough, then secretly poured a few spoonfuls of spring water from her space into it—costing her a few credits.

She winced at the thought of spending that money.

Still, the spiritual spring water had incredible effects. She had drunk quite a bit the night before, and woke up feeling refreshed, energized, and even her complexion looked better.

Giving it to the pigs might help too.

Soon, thanks to the injections, pigs slowly started recovering and moving toward the water trough to drink.

Within a short time, almost all of them had taken a sip.

Some even began rooting around their food troughs—they were hungry.

Zhao Dahai looked at the visibly recovered pigs, still in disbelief. “They’re actually okay now?”

Lin Shuqiao pulled off her gloves and smiled. “Not completely—but they’re getting there. Do you have food? Their appetite’s back a bit, so they’re probably hungry.”

Zhao Dahai quickly fetched feed from the storage room and poured it in.

His hands moved fast, eyes glimmering with excitement.

Lin Shuqiao double-checked the condition of the pigs that had been ill. After confirming they were gradually recovering, she finally stepped out of the pen.

“It really was heatstroke? Not swine fever?”

Just as she emerged, someone grabbed her hand—it was Uncle Wang.

Removing her gloves, Lin Shuqiao replied, “Yes.”

Uncle Wang looked surprised. “Then… they’re really fine now?”

She nodded. “They’ll still need medication and proper care—make sure to provide shade and keep it ventilated. There shouldn’t be a problem.”

Uncle Wang looked somewhat crushed. “Wait… are you really a vet?”

Lin Shuqiao shook her head. “No, just learned a bit in the past.”

Modern veterinary work required certification. While she had one in her past life, she could only claim “experience” now.

Uncle Wang looked even more disheartened. A young girl’s experience was better than his own.

And he wasn’t the only one—everyone else looked awkward and slightly ashamed, casting strange glances at Lin Shuqiao.

Zhao Dahai, however, wasn’t bothered. After checking each pig himself and confirming they were all eating again, he beamed and walked up to her. “Doctor, you really are something else.”

Lin Shuqiao shook her head. “I’m not a vet, just know a few things.”

Truthfully, by the prescription alone, the pigs were supposed to recover in three days—but she had added spring water, which sped things up dramatically.

The result was shockingly effective.

Zhao Dahai looked at her with admiration. “You’re too modest. Thank you so much. I really had no idea what I was going to do.”

“I normally sell these pigs for 160 yuan each. Per our agreement, I’ll give them to you at half price. How many do you want?”

Having just finished examining the pigs, Lin Shuqiao didn’t hesitate:
“Two breeding pigs.”
