Not Good Enough for a Military Marriage? The Beautiful Army Wife Opens a Factory and Raises Pigs Chapter 14

Chapter 14: Lin Shuqiao Is My Wife

Lu Zheng was in the military office, wrapping up his duties and preparing to head home when Wang Yong suddenly rushed in, flustered and panicked.
“Brother Zheng, whatever you do—don’t go home right now!”

Lu Zheng glanced up slightly as he packed up. “What’s going on?”

Wang Yong leaned in and whispered, “You remember that strange bunch of in-laws your wife has? They’re back! Last time, when you had just gotten married, they stayed in the family compound and caused such a ruckus that the entire place was in chaos. Completely unreasonable people.”

Lu Zheng’s expression darkened. He remembered it all too well.

Right after his wedding, he’d gone out on a mission, and Lin Shuqiao’s family had taken the opportunity to move in. A group of idle freeloaders, they ate and drank at others’ expense and bragged everywhere about being related to him—claiming he was their brother-in-law who could get them connections.

His reputation had nearly been destroyed, and he’d almost faced disciplinary action because of them.

If he hadn’t returned in time and used both his status and commanding presence to drive them away, those insufferable relatives might’ve never left.

“And what do they want this time?” Lu Zheng’s brows furrowed deeply.

“Most likely after money again,” Wang Yong guessed. “Honestly, you should just avoid going back. I’m telling you, with that wife of yours and her bizarre family, if you get tangled up again, it could cost you.”

“I can’t.”

Lu Zheng had planned to sleep at the barracks, but then remembered Lu Ziqi was still at home. He had to go back and check in.

After bidding Wang Yong goodbye, he immediately headed back to the residential compound.

Before he even stepped inside, he heard a loud commotion. A crowd had already gathered outside to watch the drama.

As soon as people spotted Lu Zheng approaching, they quickly scattered.

“Aiya, Lu Zheng, I’m telling you,” Auntie Wang said, pulling him aside, “you really should keep your wife in check. She’s acting out of line every day.”

“Exactly. You’re an outstanding young officer—don’t let some domestic dispute ruin your future.”

Auntie Wang whispered conspiratorially, “It’s about your wife, Lin Shuqiao! Honestly, you should just divorce her while you still can.”

Lu Zheng’s face was expressionless, but he didn’t resist as he was pulled aside.

Looking around, Auntie Wang lowered her voice again. “I know that Lin Shuqiao well. Her whole family is a mess. Just listen to what’s going on inside right now!”

Lu Zheng lifted his eyes, and sure enough, inside he heard Lin’s sharp, shrieking voice:
“You think you’re so great? If we weren’t counting on you marrying into the Lu family, we’d have kicked you out long ago!”

Lu Zheng’s expression turned thunderous, his dark eyes fixed on the front door. He was just about to step forward.

Uncle Wang quickly tried to dissuade him, “Just listen to what they’re saying. You know what kind of person Lin Shuqiao is. The smart thing to do is divorce her. You’re a good guy—you’ll have plenty of chances to find the right match. Why put yourself through this?”

Lu Zheng replied in a low, steady voice,
“Thanks for the concern, but I’ll handle it myself. Lin Shuqiao is my wife. No matter what, I’ll deal with it.”

The message was clear: stay out of it.

Seeing how firm his attitude was, Auntie Wang didn’t push further. “Well, if you say so. Just remember, sometimes it’s better not to get too emotional. Take care of yourself.”

With that, she gave up and left, realizing she wouldn’t get through to him, especially with how grim he looked.

Lu Zheng stood there, lips pressed tightly into a hard line.

He dispersed the remaining onlookers at the door. From inside, the argument was getting even more heated.

Then, he heard Lin Shuqiao’s icy voice:

“Fine. If that’s the case, then let’s all just die together as one big happy family!”
