Chapter 16
The two children running quickly in front were very thin, with mud-stained clothes hanging loosely on their bodies, like a tattered flag flying in the wind, miserable but stubborn.
A group of older children behind them were obviously stronger than the two children. They slid down from the grass between the big trees and hurriedly chased after the two children. Each of them waved his little fists as he ran and kept shouting loudly.
Because they were too far away, the sound was blown into pieces by the wind, and the people on the ox cart could not hear what they were shouting.
“Are these all children from the village? Why are they so dirty?” Tian Xiaomei’s artificial exclamation came from the carriage, and she looked at the rags wrapped around their bodies and the shoes with holes with disgust.
“They are all kids running around in the fields, they are definitely not as good as the children in the city.” Yang Dashan already looked down on Tian Xiaomei’s shyness, and now that she was a person who was always complaining about everything, his impression of her was even worse.
Soon the two children were caught up, and a large group of people surrounded them not far in front of the ox cart. Mo Yutong looked at them and made out that the two children who were surrounded with their backs to her were a boy and a girl.
Tian Xiaomei didn’t seem to notice the displeasure in Yang Dashan’s words. She glanced at the children standing by the roadside and frowned, saying, “Why aren’t those two kids wearing shoes? What are they stepping on? It’s not cow dung!”
After saying that, she covered her mouth and pretended to retch. Her only three points of beauty were reduced to half by her ugly imitation.
The three male educated youth looked at the coy Tian Xiaomei and couldn’t help but roll their eyes silently.
Liao Qingyun, who seemed the most distant and indifferent, said calmly, “If there are children with disabilities who cannot take care of themselves and need care, one of them can stay and does not need to go to the countryside.”
What did that mean? Tian Xiaomei didn’t understand what Liao Qingyun said, but Mo Yutong, Ma Xinguo, and Lian Haiguang all understood. This was a roundabout way of scolding her for not being able to take care of herself and needing care. She didn’t need to go to the countryside to bully others. What a talent!
However, Tian Xiaomei was a junior high school student after all, and she quickly realized from the expressions of these people that Liao Qingyun was scolding her. She felt embarrassed and annoyed in an instant, and immediately looked at Ma Xinguo with weak eyes.
Ma Xinguo knew very well what kind of personality his classmate’s cousin had. She was as sticky as taffy and would pester him endlessly once she got involved. He had only helped her because he was afraid that she would waste everyone’s time. Now that they were about to arrive at the team headquarters, he would not pay any more attention to her.
If I dare to support her, even if it’s just a “hmm” or a barely perceptible nod, she will interpret it as him being interested in her and immediately regard herself as his object. Think about it, I really can’t afford such an object as her.
Just as there was an awkward silence in the carriage, the children on the roadside had already started a tense standoff. A boy who was stronger than the other children rushed to the little girl viciously and began to snatch the small basket that the little girl was holding in her arms.
“You are not allowed to snatch it. My second brother found it. My second brother found it.” The little girl’s voice, obviously with crying tone, was clearly heard by everyone.
Are they going to fight? Everyone in the oxcart couldn’t help but look at the children who were getting closer and closer to the oxcart.
It is normal for children to have conflicts. For food or toys, you push me and I slap you. As long as it is not too serious, most adults will turn a blind eye.
After all, they are just kids who haven’t grown up yet! Everyone has been through fights and quarrels as a child. Back then, I never saw any parents fighting with their children. They only went to the other party’s parents to seek justice when they had really bullied them.
So the educated youth just watched and had no intention of intervening, and Yang Dashan did not stop the ox cart, but continued to move forward slowly.
“I’m going to grab it. Can you beat us? Two little bastards…” The strong boy gritted his teeth with a ferocious look on his face. He pulled the basket hard with both hands, and his mouth was full of dirty words.
The rich vocabulary of curse words was so amazing that the educated youth were amazed. Mo Yutong, Ma Xinguo and Liao Qingyun frowned even more, but this was a village matter and it was not easy for them as educated youth to interfere.
“Li Tiezhu, you are not allowed to steal my sister’s things.” Yan Mingcheng, who was surrounded by other children in another small circle, shouted angrily. He was too young to break free from so many people and could only watch his sister being bullied.
“I’m not a bastard, not a bastard. You are a bad boy, a bad boy.” The little girl Yan Mingxue was still pulling with Li Tiezhu until the straw basket could no longer withstand it and a big hole was torn in it.
The four or five pheasant eggs that were carefully placed in the basket fell to the ground with a crackling sound, and all of them were broken into pieces.
“Wow…” Yan Mingxue looked at the egg yolk stuck on the yellow mud and gravel road and burst into tears. Her pheasant eggs were found by her second brother. They had agreed to give them to her eldest brother. Now they were all gone, not a single one.
“I told you not to give it to me, so I will not give it to me.” Li Tiezhu looked at the broken pheasant eggs and pushed them towards Yan Mingxue angrily.
“Uncle Yang, won’t something happen to them like this?” Mo Yutong looked at Yan Mingxue who staggered backward, and her hands holding the backpack couldn’t help but clenched tightly.
At this moment, Yan Mingcheng was filled with helplessness and anger. They could bully him, but they could not bully his sister. He was furious and pounced on the children beside him with his teeth and claws bared.
Several boys were fighting in a group over here, and Li Tiezhu’s raised palm was about to hit Yan Mingxue’s pale face.
Hitting someone, and even hitting them in the face, that was enough. Mo Yutong, who had been watching the whole thing, finally couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Hey…” Before Yang Dashan could say that these were the two children of the Yan family, Mo Yutong no longer cared about the moving ox cart and jumped off with a stagger.
“What do you want to do?” Mo Yutong grabbed the frightened Yan Mingxue and protected her behind him. With a cold face, he shouted at Li Tiezhu, who was wide-eyed and furious.
“You dare to meddle in my business? Believe it or not, I will beat you to death.” Li Tiezhu waved his fist and shouted at Mo Yutong, as if he was about to pounce on Mo Yutong and beat him up at any time.
Now the educated youth in the car could no longer sit still, especially Ma Xinguo, who jumped out of the car and walked to Mo Yutong after saying “I’ll go and take a look.”
“You are the new educated youth.” Li Tiezhu looked at Mo Yutong and Ma Xinguo arrogantly. His father was the custodian of the brigade headquarters, and he was not afraid of the educated youth.
Mo Yutong ignored Li Tiezhu and walked towards Yan Mingcheng, who was still being besieged by several children. She grabbed the collar of one of the children and threw him aside, with a small flame of anger in her beautiful eyes.
“Come here.” Throwing aside those kids who were bullying the weak, Mo Yutong waved to Yan Mingcheng who was curled up on the ground with his head in his hands.
Yan Mingcheng let go of his hand and looked up at Mo Yutong. He was surprised to see that the facial features on that gray little face were about 60% similar to those of Yan Mingli.
This face? Is this Li Ge’s younger brother?
