Release the Female Lead Ch. 206

Chapter 206: Fallen Petals Are Not Heartless Things1 (First Update)

“Ye Meijing” quickly calmed down.

Upon careful consideration, it became clear that Zhao Teddy had been so easily dealt with, because he had already lost part of his luck value. Additionally, after suffering Shura Hall’s punishment, even if Zhao Teddy didn’t die, he would have lost his lead character qualifications.

As for this red python, it had very likely inherited part of Zhao Teddy’s fortune, which resulted in this golden-purple aura. Or perhaps, this red python inherently possessed a lead character halo.

“A snake can transform into a flood dragon2, and a flood dragon can become a true dragon; could this be a future member of the dragon race?”

“Ye Meijing” recalled records in ancient books, stating that a snake could transform into a flood dragon after a thousand years, and into a true dragon after ten thousand years.

If nothing unexpected happened, this little snake was currently in the stage of becoming a flood dragon, and would eventually turn into a true dragon.

Even though this world had a rich variety of races, the demon race was not very common due to regional reasons, let alone the more noble dragon race.

Thinking about how she had just given away this future dragon race member, “Ye Meijing” felt a cocktail of emotions.

“Miss, thank you so much for what you did last time.”

“What, don’t you remember me?”

Naturally, “Ye Wenxin”/Fairy Fengya on stage wouldn’t recognize Xi Mengxuan, and as “Ye Meijing” stood too far away, she couldn’t transmit her voice over such a distance, so she could only watch the interaction between the two……

The red python was a demonic beast, but because it had signed a contract with Xi Mengxuan, it could be considered a spirit beast.

Seeing the person in front of it, resembling the one who beat it up before, yet with a completely opposite aura, the red python made a hissing sound, as if it was trying to convey something to Xi Mengxuan.

Although Xi Mengxuan’s strength had increased significantly thanks to the red python and the Beast Taming Garden3’s manuals, she still didn’t understand beast language. Therefore, she naturally didn’t notice anything unusual about the red python’s warning.

Seeing that Xi Mengxuan was still somewhat reluctant, Fairy Fengya slightly frowned and said calmly, “We’ll talk later.”

“Alright, then please excuse me.” Xi Mengxuan looked at her benefactor, who had given her a second chance at life. She didn’t understand why her personality and tone had changed so quickly, but upon calm reflection, she could guess the reason.

The two of them had met in Shura Hall, a demon sect, and needless to say, they couldn’t be too conspicuous in an immortal sect’s territory.

They clasped their fists in greeting and finally entered the battle phase.

In an instant, Xi Mengxuan’s expression changed. Combined with the outfit of the Beast Taming Garden, she appeared quite valiant and formidable.

“Luo Hong (Falling Red)!” she called out the red python’s name. The red python moved swiftly, attacking Fairy Fengya. Fairy Fengya slightly shifted her body and used her Sword Qi Technique again, but instead of attacking the red python, she directed it straight at Xi Mengxuan.

Xi Mengxuan dodged awkwardly. The red python glanced back at Xi Mengxuan, showing a trace of human-like concern in its eyes. However, it quickly turned its gaze back to Fairy Fengya.

Its body began to expand, and the contract markings on its head became visible, making it look even more aggressive.

This was one of the Beast Taming Garden’s cultivation methods, which could enhance a spirit beast’s combat power.

“Luo Hong, bind!”

But for some reason, “Ye Meijing” felt like she had tuned into the wrong channel while watching this, as if Beast Taming Garden’s style reminded her of Pokémon.

“Luo Hong, tail whip!”

“Luo Hong, tackle!”

The two had seamless coordination, but nevertheless, all these attacks were ineffective against Fairy Fengya. “Ye Meijing” thought Fairy Fengya would continue to torment these people, but unexpectedly, she quickly lost her patience.

She used the Sword Qi Technique again. One sword, two swords—the number of golden sword Qi above her head increased, creating a grand presentation. It seemed that with just a slight movement of Fairy Fengya’s delicate hand, she could rain down destruction.

The spectators gasped in shock. “Ye Meijing” watched with a bitter smile, thinking that her alternate character, Ye Wenxin, was getting harder to play.

The mastery of the Sword Qi Technique displayed here had reached a state of perfection that she estimated she couldn’t achieve even after hundreds of years of effort.

However, Fairy Fengya accomplished it with ease. Yet she maintained that posture, showing no intention of releasing the sword technique.

Xi Mengxuan’s face had already turned pale. Looking at the red python beside her, she saw it shaking its head, indicating that it had no ability to resist at all.

“I concede.” Xi Mengxuan sighed and finally announced her defeat.

Seeing her concede, Fairy Fengya waved her hand, and the sword Qi she had summoned flew towards the spectator stands.

The disciples were all startled, thinking that Fairy Fengya had lost control. The sword Qi was already so close that it was impossible to dodge. But then something strange happened—the sword Qi stopped in front of everyone and did not attack.

At the same time, a miserable scream was heard. A disciple had been pierced through the heart by the sword Qi; he fell to the ground, and died instantly.

“Ye Wenxin, have you lost your mind?!” The Cave Master of Broken Dragon Cave roared from the high platform, making a move as if he wanted to step down and teach the murderous Fairy Fengya a lesson.

However, Fairy Fengya’s expression remained calm as she continued speaking in Ye Wenxin’s voice. “I present this person as a great gift to Sect Master; I hope Sect Master can grant me a request.”

Standing on the ring, despite the immense pressure from above, Fairy Fengya remained neither humble nor arrogant, using “Ye Wenxin’s” face to openly confront the Cave Master of Broken Dragon Cave.

“Ye Meijing” watched with a mix of emotions, knowing that Fairy Fengya was by no means a person who indiscriminately killed innocents.

Without needing to think, it was clear that the person Fairy Fengya had killed was likely one of the demon cultivators who had killed disciples of the immortal sects.

But the furious Cave Master of Broken Dragon Cave lost his composure. Seeing his sect’s disciple being killed made him want to fight Fairy Fengya to the death.

The Sect Master of Azure Wings Sect smiled wryly, but still stopped the Cave Master, saying, “Cave Master of Broken Dragon Cave, don’t be hasty. Let me find out the reason before deciding on any punishment.”

As he spoke, he also exerted his own pressure, giving the Cave Master no chance to act recklessly.

The Cave Master of Broken Dragon Cave was already furious and paid no heed to the Sect Master. While they were exerting pressure and competing against each other, the other disciples were suffering greatly.

“Ye Meijing” saw the people around her fainting to the ground and followed suit, plopping down and moaning as if overwhelmed by the pressure, imitating the others’ expressions of pain.

Fairy Fengya noticed “Ye Meijing’s” odd behavior but didn’t pay it any mind. She simply watched the Sect Master on the high platform.

To her, everyone else was as fleeting as clouds, with no sense of presence at all.

Footnotes:

  1. “落红不是无情物”/ “Fallen petals are not heartless things” (luò hóng bù shì wú qíng wù) is a line from a classical Chinese poem. It originates from the poem “己亥杂诗” (Jǐ Hài Zá Shī) by the Qing Dynasty poet Gong Zizhen (龚自珍). The full couplet is:

落红不是无情物 ,The fallen petals are not heartless things,
化作春泥更护花。They turn into spring soil to nourish the flowers.

This couplet conveys the idea that even fallen petals, which seem like discarded and lifeless objects, have a purpose and continue to contribute to the growth and nourishment of new flowers. It symbolizes the continuity of life and the idea that sacrifices or endings can lead to new beginnings and growth. The first line is often used metaphorically to suggest that things that appear to be failures or endings can have positive and meaningful outcomes.

Also, the first two characters, 落红 (luo hong), is the red python’s name, and after what Xi Mengxuan went through at Shura Hall, I get why she’d give it this name. ↩︎

  2. A flood dragon is a mythical dragon that controls rain and floods, with the appearance between a serpent and a dragon ↩︎

  3. Changed Imperial Beast Garden to Beast Taming Garden. As always, I’ve already edited all the relevant chapters. ↩︎
