Chapter 1
Su Yuwei had just given birth when she received news that her husband, Pang Chuan, who was serving in the military, had been promoted to battalion commander.
The letter also mentioned that family members of battalion commanders could now live with them on base.
She was overjoyed, thinking that once she recovered, she’d head to the military base to join her husband.
But barely a few days after her confinement period ended, she received another letter—from Pang Chuan—asking for a divorce.
“……”
Furious, Su Yuwei fainted on the spot.
What she didn’t expect was that while unconscious, a sudden rush of foreign memories surged into her mind.
From those memories, she realized that they belonged to a woman from ten years in the future—a PhD in Traditional Chinese Medicine who worked as a chief physician at a major hospital in a big city.
And in her spare time, this woman had read a novel.
Speaking of that novel, Su Yuwei’s expression became a little strange.
Because the male lead in the novel was none other than her husband, Pang Chuan. And the female lead? The very woman he was currently entangled with—Tao Xue, the widow of one of his fallen comrades. They already had a child together.
As for Su Yuwei herself, she was written as the unreasonable, vulgar, hysterical cannon-fodder ex-wife.
The worst part?
Even after being divorced, her character shamelessly stayed at Pang Chuan’s parents’ house, caring tirelessly for his bedridden father, sickly mother, and two rebellious younger siblings.
…What the actual hell?! It was beyond infuriating!
In the end, the male and female leads found love and career success.
Meanwhile, the tragic ex-wife, after burying Pang Chuan’s parents, died trying to stand up for her sister-in-law, who was suffering domestic violence—stabbed to death by a gangster husband.
And her own baby girl, born from ten months of pregnancy? That bastard Pang Chuan had the nerve to “make a noble sacrifice” and gave the child away to his comrade’s family—because the female lead had lost her ability to conceive while saving him. A huge “favor” returned.
Su Yuwei: “……”
Seriously—
What kind of trash novel was this? Absolutely ridiculous!
She was already burning with rage, yet on top of that, her mother-in-law Liu Chunhua was shrieking next to her like she was mourning a funeral, making her head throb.
…
“Yuwei, I’m begging you. Please, just agree to divorce Chuanzi, okay? I’ll even kneel down if I have to!”
“I’ll kowtow to you if that’s what it takes. Just let him go, alright? The letter said if you don’t agree, Tao Xue’s pregnancy won’t stay hidden much longer. It’ll be a real mess then.”
“Yuwei, please…”
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH——
…Screw that!
Su Yuwei was about to explode. This old hag, who used to say she loved her like a daughter and treated her so well—now that she’d passed out from anger, all she could say was “stop making a fuss”?
…Go to hell!
Furious beyond belief, Su Yuwei suddenly jolted awake and opened her eyes wide.
“Oh, can’t keep up the act anymore? Finally awake?”
Her sister-in-law, Pang Wenli, standing beside the heated brick bed, immediately sneered in her usual shrill, sarcastic tone.
“I’m telling you, Su Yuwei, even if you play dead, it’s useless. My brother is a big shot now—how could he possibly spend the rest of his life with some dirty village woman like you? If you have any sense, sign the divorce papers already. Maybe then we’ll still show you a shred of mercy. Otherwise… hmph.”
She looked every bit like a petty villain drunk on power.
Liu Chunhua, sitting nearby, couldn’t help showing a trace of smugness upon hearing her daughter’s words.
But she quickly suppressed the smile and lightly smacked her daughter on the back, scolding her with mock concern:
“You silly girl, don’t say that kind of thing.”
Pang Wenli rolled her eyes, clearly unbothered, and scoffed as she added:
“It’s true though. Didn’t the letter say my brother’s new wife is a university graduate?”
This time, Liu Chunhua fell silent.
She actually agreed with her daughter deep down. Her son had made something of himself, become an officer, and even found a college-educated wife.
Under normal circumstances, this would’ve been a source of pride. But the problem was, he was already married—this made things a little tricky.
She sighed and looked into Su Yuwei’s cold, mocking gaze. A trace of guilt flickered in her eyes.
After all, they had lived together for nearly two years, and Su Yuwei had always been respectful and considerate. She never expected to be met with such a glare today—clearly, the girl had been pushed too far.
Ah!
In the end, it was her son’s fault for being too excellent!
Liu Chunhua sighed again, reached out and gently patted Su Yuwei’s hand, then began to coax her:
“Yuwei, just treat this as us owing you, okay? You’ve always been a good girl. After the divorce, I’ll still treat you like my daughter-in-law. You can keep living with us, just like now, alright?”
She’d originally said that just to placate her, but once the words left her mouth, a light bulb went off.
What a brilliant idea!
Keep her around as free labor to care for the family and avoid her chasing after her son to cause trouble on base. Two birds with one stone.
Liu Chunhua’s spirits lifted at once. She clung to Su Yuwei’s hand and continued:
“Yuwei, listen to me. All women go through hard times. I promise, even after the divorce, I’ll still love you like my own daughter. I know how much you’ve suffered…”
As she spoke, her voice suddenly faltered.
Not because she didn’t want to continue—but because Su Yuwei was staring at her with such a terrifying, unblinking glare that she looked ready to kill someone.
“What’s the matter? Why’d you stop talking?”
Su Yuwei gave a chilling sneer, yanked her hand out of Liu Chunhua’s grasp, and pointed straight at her, shouting:
“You old hag, with one foot in the grave already, you really think you’re clever, huh? All that nonsense you just spouted was just so I’d keep slaving away in your house after the divorce, right? So I can keep working for free, waiting on you hand and foot for the rest of my life?”
Her anger boiled over. Su Yuwei took a deep breath and snapped:
“Just how stupid do you think I am? What is this, the feudal era? You think your precious son can enjoy the best of both worlds, with a new wife and an old one serving his parents? Want me to carry the baby over to the village committee and help broadcast this lovely little family drama of yours?”
Liu Chunhua’s fake smile instantly collapsed.
Pang Wenli, standing beside her, also flew into a rage, shouting as she pointed at Su Yuwei:
“You bitch! What nonsense are you spewing?! Trying to get us all killed?!”
Even though things weren’t as strict as they used to be, everyone still watched what they said and did. If word got out that their family was “playing dirty” and acting like feudal tyrants, they’d be ruined—and Pang Chuan’s career would go down with them.
Liu Chunhua understood that too. Ignoring the scolding she’d just taken, she immediately forced herself to speak gently:
“Yuwei, don’t say things like that. If you ruin Chuanzi’s future, it’ll all be for nothing…”
Su Yuwei laughed in disbelief.
Why would she care about that bastard’s future now? If anything, she was planning to destroy it.
But first—she had more pressing matters to handle.
She turned to look at Pang Wenli, who was snarling at her like a wild dog—despite still wearing the dress and hair clip Su Yuwei had made for her.
Ungrateful brat.
Su Yuwei gently set the baby down at the foot of the bed, then got up—and before the others could react, grabbed Pang Wenli by the hair and slapped her across the face several times.
“AHH! YOU CRAZY BITCH—!”
Screams rang out, sharp enough to blow the roof off. Su Yuwei followed up with two solid punches to that foul mouth of hers.
Liu Chunhua shrieked and rushed forward to help her daughter.
But at that moment—BANG BANG BANG! A series of loud knocks slammed against the front door.
From outside, angry shouting erupted.
