Chapter 1
“Quick, quick—it’s almost our turn!”
“We’ve waited so many years. We can finally reincarnate as humans!”
“Qingge, who are you going to be born as?”
Su Qingge looked down at the card in her hand: a wealthy daughter of a rich family. She had once been a powerful ability user who survived a hundred years in the apocalypse.
Because of a major war, she had accidentally been swept into the Underworld, and after waiting decades there, she finally got the chance to reincarnate.
“Su Qingge, cross the Mirror of Rebirth, and you can begin your new life,” said the underworld emissary.
Following the instruction, Su Qingge stepped forward—and everything went black.
“Mom, I didn’t mean to sign Qingge up for the countryside program. If she really doesn’t want to go, I’ll go instead.”
“Wan’er, don’t cry. We raised Su Qingge for so many years—it’s time she repaid us. She must go to the countryside.”
As Su Qingge regained consciousness, she heard two women speaking outside the door, and a rush of unfamiliar memories flooded her mind.
The original host was also named Su Qingge—and she now realized she had transmigrated into a book. Looking at the reincarnation card: “rich daughter” was correct, but she was actually a fake heiress.
The real daughter, Su Wan’er, had shown up half a month ago, and the Su family finally realized they had raised someone else’s child for seventeen years.
From then on, Su Qingge, who already had little presence in the family, lived even more miserably.
Su Wan’er didn’t like her and deliberately signed her up for the countryside labor program. When the original Su Qingge found out she’d be sent to suffer in the countryside, she resisted—and hit her head in the struggle. That’s when Su Qingge (from the afterlife) arrived.
Before she could process things, a cloud of smoke appeared and the underworld emissary reappeared—his previously stern face now friendly and apologetic. That’s when Su Qingge realized something serious had happened.
“Miss Su, I made a mistake with the reincarnation records—you were sent into a novel. Now you’ll need to complete the storyline before you can reincarnate again. I’m giving you this pearl to help. Once the plot is done, it will ensure your safe passage to the next life.”
Seeing the emissary practically coughing blood, Su Qingge knew this pearl wasn’t ordinary. She agreed—she had no other choice.
The pearl required a drop of blood to bind. Once the blood was absorbed, it vanished into her consciousness.
Inside the pearl was like a miniature world. It included a usage manual and a map. Looking at all the food spots on it, Su Qingge couldn’t help but swallow.
Chengdu’s spicy rabbit head, Chongqing’s butter hotpot, Heilongjiang’s sweet and sour pork, Guangxi’s snail noodles, Shandong’s scallion-wrapped pancakes, Guangdong’s white-cut chicken, Xinjiang’s whole roast lamb, Henan’s spicy soup, Hunan’s stinky tofu, Gansu’s spicy skewers…
She could instantly teleport to any of these places with her mind.
And it wasn’t just food. The mini world included all aspects of life—travel, clothing, housing, even medicine and spiritual spring water. It allowed her full travel freedom and survival essentials.
With this pearl, her initial panic from transmigrating disappeared. She even treated the bump on her head using the spring water.
Just as she was about to explore further, she heard someone calling her from outside and exited the space.
“Su Qingge! I’m talking to you—don’t forget about the train the morning after tomorrow!”
Liu Meilian looked at her with disgust. If Qingge didn’t go to the countryside, Wan’er would have to. They couldn’t bear to send their real daughter.
When Su Qingge was born, Liu Meilian had suffered major bleeding, and the resulting hysterectomy meant she could no longer have children.
Because of that, Liu Meilian had always hated Su Qingge and blamed her for everything.
Now that their biological daughter was back, she wouldn’t allow Su Qingge to stay in the Su family any longer.
Su Qingge stared coldly at her. From childhood to now, she had never felt any parental love from them—and didn’t expect any now.
“Fine, I’ll go to the countryside. But I have two conditions:
One, give me 2,000 yuan.
Two, sign a document severing all ties—going forward, I, Su Qingge, will have nothing to do with the Su family.”
Liu Meilian was furious at the outrageous demand, but when she thought of her daughter, she had to endure it.
She knew Su Qingge had a position in the publicity office—once Qingge went to the countryside, the job could be given to Wan’er.
As for cutting ties—that was even better. The Su family didn’t want anything to do with a countryside girl like Su Qingge anyway.
“Fine. I agree.”
Liu Meilian acted quickly. That same evening, Su Qingge received 2,000 yuan and a signed, fingerprinted letter cutting ties.
The next morning, once the Su family had left, Su Qingge headed out with her household registration booklet. She wanted to visit the Educated Youth Office—knowing Su Wan’er’s personality, she definitely wouldn’t have sent her somewhere nice.
Neighbors in the housing compound who saw the injury on Su Qingge’s head were all outraged. The Su family had completely abandoned her the moment their real daughter returned. But since it was their “family matter,” they could only show Su Qingge a bit more kindness in private.
At the office, the staff looked at her with excitement and asked, “Serving the people! Young lady, are you here to register for the countryside program?”
“Hello, I’m Su Qingge. I’m here to check which area I’ve been assigned to.”
The staff quickly looked it up and then frowned, “You’re assigned to the far northwest. What a harsh place… What was this girl thinking?”
“Since you’re here, take your relocation subsidy. It’s 180 yuan for the northwest.”
After receiving the subsidy, Su Qingge asked if she could change her destination. The staff looked helpless.
“Young lady, destinations can’t be changed easily… Unless you find someone to switch with you.”
He was clearly sympathetic.
So Su Qingge registered Su Wan’er instead. With the staff’s help, the two successfully switched places.
Su Qingge would now go to the northeast, and Su Wan’er to the far northwest. Both received their respective subsidies.
Before leaving, Su Qingge gave the staff five boiled eggs—she had prepared them before heading out.
After leaving the office, she visited the recycling station. It was 1974—still three years away from the reinstatement of college entrance exams.
It might seem far off, but it was never too early to prepare. She wanted to gather some high school textbooks, as she planned to keep studying in the countryside.
At the gate, the old caretaker recognized her.
“Qingge, back for more books?”
The original Su Qingge had been a very diligent learner. Her adoptive parents never let her go to school, so she taught herself. She often came here to look for books, and the old man had even taught her a lot.
Now she had already self-studied the entire high school curriculum—but her adoptive parents had no idea.
“Yes, Grandpa. I’m leaving for the countryside soon. I want to take some textbooks with me.”
The old man, well aware of her situation, nodded and let her in.
The recycling station was located in an abandoned courtyard. Su Qingge was very familiar with it by now, and quickly began her search.
She didn’t miss a single book. While she was fully immersed in searching, the pearl in her consciousness gave off a signal.
She walked directly to a flashing desk. Though the desk’s surface was broken, the key was hidden inside one of its legs.
Once opened, what she saw stunned her—Su Qingge was completely blown away…
