Chapter 28: Catching an Affair
Seeing that Qin Ni didn’t take it, Lin Su understood the reason and said with heartache, “It’s really for you, go try it on quickly.”
Qin Ni suddenly felt her throat dry. She wanted to reach out and take it, but noticing that her palms were sweaty, she quickly wiped them on her pants. Only when her hands were clean did she carefully take the dress.
The dress was really beautiful. With her limited knowledge, she couldn’t describe it, but her mood was easy to describe: pure joy.
She quickly took the dress into the house to try it on.
Qin Yao was sweeping the floor, secretly glancing over as he swept.
His younger brother had overalls, and his younger sister had a dress. Would it be his turn next?
But until after dinner and bedtime, his stepmother didn’t give him any clothes.
Qin Sui felt the child beside him tossing and turning, and he became annoyed, “Do you have thorns on your butt?”
Qin Yao immediately quieted down.
Qin Sui rubbed his face and asked helplessly, “What’s wrong again? Speak!”
Qin Yao hesitated, wanting to say it but afraid that his father would think he was being dramatic. But if he didn’t say it, his father would definitely keep asking.
Reluctantly, Qin Yao had to speak, “She made clothes for my younger brother and sister.”
He thought he had been bullied again. So he felt that his stepmother was being biased.
“Didn’t you have new clothes before?” Qin Sui asked.
Qin Yao: “They have them too.”
Qin Sui was speechless, “If you put it that way, I don’t have any.”
That wasn’t how things were compared.
Qin Yao turned his back to his father, facing him with his butt.
Qin Sui chuckled, “If your stepmother gives you something, accept it. If she doesn’t, don’t give her a bad face. She’s not in good health and still remembers to make this and that for you three. You’re the older brother, so what’s wrong with letting your younger siblings have some things? Stop dwelling on these things and remember how good she is to you.”
Qin Yao felt a little guilty after being told off and turned to lie on his back, “I know.”
“Good that you know. Go to sleep, it’s late.”
“Okay.”
Qin Yao was able to fall asleep now, but Qin Sui couldn’t.
Lin Su had included everyone in the family, making beautiful clothes and such, except for him.
He hadn’t seen anything.
He turned over, unable to sleep. He turned over again, still unable to sleep.
Qin Sui suddenly sat up.
That’s right, why did she forget about him?
Lin Su hadn’t forgotten.
She just didn’t have any cloth to make clothes, and she had been busy altering clothes and dresses recently. She didn’t have time to remember them, father and son.
Qin Sui had walked around in front of her five times, and Qin Yao had walked around twice, but neither of them could divert her attention from the clothes.
The father and son looked at each other and sighed helplessly.
Evening.
Zhao Cuifeng came.
She deliberately chose a time when it was almost dark and no one was wandering around outside, so she wouldn’t run into anyone on the way back.
The purpose of this trip was to apologize to Lin Su.
She was very unwilling to do so, but her husband had threatened to send her back to her hometown.
She had already fallen out with her mother-in-law, and if she went back, she would definitely be treated like a slave again. She didn’t want to go back to her hometown.
In the end, Zhao Cuifeng had no choice but to come after weighing the pros and cons.
Her husband also came, afraid that she would be insincere and had to keep an eye on her.
As for her son, he couldn’t come because his butt was still swollen from being beaten.
Lin Su and the others had just finished dinner when they saw them coming. Lin Su was slightly surprised. After exchanging a glance with Qin Sui, she got up.
“What is this?”
Zhao Cuifeng’s husband pushed Zhao Cuifeng, who forced herself to squeeze out a smile and reluctantly handed over the canned fruit she was carrying, “I was being rude that day and shouldn’t have said those things to you. Don’t hold it against me. This is an apology.”
Lin Su raised her eyebrows and looked back at Qin Sui. Seeing Qin Sui nod, she reached out and took it, “I don’t have much of a problem, but Qin Yao was bullied by your son…”
Zhao Cuifeng was already annoyed that she had accepted it without any formalities, and when she heard her mention her son, she immediately thought of her son being beaten so badly that he couldn’t get out of bed. Just as she was about to get angry, her husband tugged at her.
As if afraid that she couldn’t control her temper, he pinched her hard.
Zhao Cuifeng hissed in pain, angry but unable to say anything. In the end, she could only give Lin Su a twisted smile, “Don’t worry, his father has already beaten him. He can’t get out of bed, so I have to feed him.”
Zhao Cuifeng’s resentment was very strong when she said the last sentence.
Lin Su heard it, but she pretended not to notice and only asked Qin Yao, “Do you forgive them?”
Qin Yao didn’t expect Lin Su to ask him specifically. He was silent for a moment before nodding, “Yes.”
Lin Su then smiled at Zhao Cuifeng, “Then this matter is over. I just hope your son remembers this lesson and doesn’t cause trouble for Qin Yao again.”
Zhao Cuifeng felt that she was about to lose control of her anger and didn’t want to answer her at all.
Zhao Cuifeng’s husband could only step in, “It won’t happen again. If he dares, I’ll beat him up again.”
Of course, he would feel sorry for his own child. Zhao Cuifeng was very dissatisfied with her husband’s ruthlessness, but she had to give him face in front of outsiders, so she could only shut up in frustration.
Zhao Cuifeng felt like she was suffocating if she stayed any longer. Ignoring her husband, who wanted to continue chatting with Qin Sui, Zhao Cuifeng turned around and left.
Zhao Cuifeng’s husband lost face and smiled apologetically at Lin Su and Qin Sui before turning around and chasing after her with a gloomy face.
The two of them would definitely have another argument after going home, but it had nothing to do with Lin Su.
She looked at the canned fruit and asked Qin Sui, “Can we eat it?”
Qin Sui walked over, twisted it open, and smelled it, “We can eat it. She wouldn’t dare to do anything.”
“That’s good.” Lin Su shared it with the three children and her grandmother, and finally handed the remaining two pieces to Qin Sui.
Qin Sui looked at her, “I don’t like these things, you eat them.”
Lin Su simply picked up a piece with chopsticks and put it to his mouth. This scene reminded Qin Sui of the intimate contact when she fed him cookies.
He opened his mouth to take the fruit, but then he saw Lin Su naturally pick up the remaining piece with the same chopsticks and put it in her own mouth.
Those chopsticks had just touched his lips…
So this was an indirect kiss?
“Cough… cough cough…” The more he thought about it, the more stimulating it became, and Qin Sui choked.
Lin Su quickly patted his back, “I told you to take both pieces, but you didn’t want them. Why are you in such a hurry to eat now?”
Qin Sui couldn’t speak and wanted her to stop patting him. In his urgency, he straightened up and grabbed her hand.
Lin Su’s hand was soft and boneless. Qin Sui couldn’t help but squeeze it, and then he was glared at by Lin Su.
Lin Su quickly pulled her hand back, looking speechlessly at the red mark on her finger.
Her skin was delicate, and he was too heavy-handed and didn’t know his own strength. It hurt a little.
Qin Sui also saw it and pretended to cough to hide the awkwardness in his eyes.
Was he that strong?
Or was her skin too delicate?
How could someone’s skin be so delicate and fair, as if she had never done any farm work?
For a moment, a thought came to Qin Sui’s mind: to keep these hands well-cared for forever.
…
When he had time, Qin Sui taught Qin Yao wrestling.
Lin Su made clothes while listening to Qin Yao’s cries of pain, occasionally looking up, and then her attention was drawn to Qin Sui.
Qin Sui wasn’t wearing his military uniform. He had on an old undershirt and black pants, simple and clean. Because he was sweating, the sweat droplets clung to his sexy Adam’s apple, his collarbone…
She didn’t know why he was sweating so much. His clothes were wet, and his chest muscles were accentuated, exceptionally obvious.
Lin Su stared blankly, and her fingertip suddenly stung. She instantly came back to her senses and quickly put her bleeding fingertip in her mouth.
When she looked up again, she met a pair of deep eyes.
He must have noticed her peeking.
Lin Su’s face turned red, and she quickly turned her head, pretending to be focused on sewing.
Qin Sui saw through her but didn’t expose her and continued to teach Qin Yao.
The next day.
After breakfast, Lin Su returned the finished clothes to the military wives. On the way back, she met a group of older women.
“Oh, I’m really impressed by Deng Lingling. She’s really doing everything she can to pester Deputy Commander Qin.”
“Isn’t this having a bad influence?”
“Don’t forget who her father is. With her father protecting her, the people above don’t care at all.”
“I feel sorry for Deputy Commander Qin’s wife. If she sees it, will it affect their relationship?”
“Who knows? She can only blame herself for marrying Deputy Commander Qin.”
“Shhh, don’t talk, she’s coming.”
“Who’s coming?”
“Deputy Commander Qin’s wife.”
Seeing Lin Su appear, the women instantly fell silent.
Lin Su pretended not to hear.
At this moment, a hurried shout came from behind. Lin Su turned around and saw that it was Gu Lin.
“Quick, quick, get in the car. I’ll take you to catch an affair, ah, no, to watch a show.”
Lin Su was confused. Before she could react, Gu Lin forcibly pushed her onto the back seat.
As she rode, Gu Lin explained to Lin Su, “Deng Lingling has come up with a new trick.”
“She planned it all out. She deliberately argued with Zuo Jing (a spoiled person), then deliberately got angry and fainted. Hey, she just happened to faint right in front of Brother Qin.”
“At the time, Brother Qin was the only male comrade there, so he had no choice but to carry Deng Lingling to the clinic.”
“Don’t overthink it. I heard he didn’t want to care about Deng Lingling at the time.”
Lin Su felt a sense of annoyance.
This Deng Lingling kept popping up to annoy her. Even though she and Qin Sui had a marriage of convenience, she shouldn’t care about these things, but she couldn’t stand Deng Lingling, a deliberate troublemaker.
Once or twice was fine, but three or four times was very annoying.
In this era that valued reputation, Deng Lingling didn’t even care about her reputation.
Did she like Qin Sui that much? Did she like him so much that she didn’t care about anything else?
Lin Su couldn’t understand.
In reality, Deng Lingling didn’t take Lin Su seriously at all. She believed that Lin Su and Qin Sui were destined to divorce sooner or later, so what was wrong with her interfering?
There was absolutely nothing wrong with it.
So she felt at ease grabbing onto Qin Sui, who was about to leave, and said sweetly, “Comrade Qin Sui, I think my head still hurts a little. Can you stay here and keep me company?”
Qin Sui frowned and avoided her hand, saying coldly, “Comrade Deng Lingling, please respect yourself.”
How could she catch someone if she respected herself? Deng Lingling felt that pursuing happiness required taking the initiative and being continuously shameless.
So she gave up her dignity and face, just so that Qin Sui would look at her more.
Seeing that Qin Sui was about to leave, Deng Lingling quickly got up and chased after him, “Comrade Qin Sui, aren’t you afraid that I’ll do something to your wife?”
This was a blatant threat.
Qin Sui’s expression darkened, and he looked at her coldly, “Aren’t you afraid of being reported?”
“Reported?” Deng Lingling seemed to have heard a great joke, “Do you know that because of my father’s relationship, everyone here, no, even the highest officials above are on good terms with my father. There are people protecting me everywhere. Do you think reporting will do any good?”
