Chapter 214: A Good Wife is Truly Wonderful (Fourth Update)
By chance, a woman wearing lavender-colored robes slowly walked over. Everyone paused mid-meal to look at her, showing a hint of surprise.
The woman appeared to be around thirty years of age, with features as fine as a painting, alluring, and carrying a mature woman’s charm. Yet, she was dressed very conservatively, giving off a sense of ascetic beauty.
She moved very appealingly; whether it was the sexy and charming Liu Churan, the gentle and elegant Ling Jue, or anyone else really, none of them could match the maturity that seemed to seep out from this woman’s very bones.
The epitome of motherhood, and the image of a good wife.
Following closely behind this married woman was a pretty, twelve-year-old girl, whose face quite resembled the married woman’s.
“Madam Yu, you’ve actually come out?”
“Madam Yu, please have a seat.”
They all seemed to be surprised, and Ye Wenxin watched with confusion. She honestly didn’t understand where this Madam Yu had materialized from.
Why had she never seen such a tasteful married woman throughout this entire Immortal Sect Grand Tournament?
“That’s Green Isle Manor’s Madam Yu.”
“Oh, the Manor Lord’s wife?”
Ye Wenxin immediately searched her memories and remembered that weird old man, the Manor Lord of Green Isle Manor (Lǜ dǎo shānzhuāng).
Ye Wenxin had fought against him before. His violent temper had left a deep impression on her. Among the Ten Great Immortal Sects, that old man was known to have a monstrous temper.
She had never expected that, after being single for so many years, he would finally get married and have a child.
However, by the looks of this Madam Yu, Ye Wenxin sensed she would die of old age within a few years, while the little girl seemed to have not inherited any talents.
This mother and daughter might appear well-regarded, but in reality, they led a hard life, with much more torment bound their way.
Ye Wenxin’s heart ached for them, and she couldn’t help checking their luck, only to see Madam Yu’s body mired with a black aura; strangely, this mother daughter pair turned out to have connecting black auras.
It seemed that if her mother died, that little girl would follow her in leaving the mortal world.
As a woman, Ye Wenxin naturally felt more merciful toward miserable women. She wondered if she should create opportunities to help Madam Yu live a few years longer, at least until that daughter of hers reached an age where she could become independent.
“Madam Yu is a pitiful person; sigh, everyone knows, but who dares to say anything?” Jin Xiaoqin sighed. She was also a woman, and recalling the rumors she had heard in the Martial World, she felt even more sorry for Madam Yu.
Ye Wenxin gave no answer, but hearing Jin Xiaoqin’s tone made her more sure to extend a helping hand.
Furthermore, with her proficiency in medical skills, she naturally needed to learn and practice it more, and strive to attain the tenth needle as soon as possible, so she could control the outburst of her Iceborn Constitution.
After weighing the pros and cons, Ye Wenxin made up her mind. She then saw Madam Yu subtly nodding at her, her movements graceful, and she spoke gently, with a low voice. She seemed to be an educated and well-rounded lady.
In contrast, the little girl appeared more introverted. She merely clung to her mother’s robes, unwilling to greet anyone.
Madam Yu was quite helpless, and wanted to advise her, only to start coughing. The girl, watching her mother cough, turned pale with fright, worried she would die.
“I’m fine. Still, I won’t bother everyone; I just came to dine.” Madam Yu showed a small smile to assuage her daughter’s worries, yet the girl remained afraid.
She didn’t even let her sickly mother carry her food, taking care of her every need.
The twelve-year-old girl looked extremely petite due to malnutrition. Additionally, she didn’t have any cultivation, and her physical strength was a little worse than a normal person’s.
Watching the little girl try her best to carry the plates precariously, everyone’s heart lurched.
Madam Yu was very concerned as well, but seeing the stubbornness in her daughter’s eyes, she still let the girl bear the plates, and stretched out a protective hand, so worried that her daughter would fall.
The mother and daughter walked slowly, each for the other’s sake, stirring a trace of emotion in the usually less affectionate Ye Wenxin. But seeing her daughter begin to falter, Madam Yu rushed to assist her, only to fall down together.
Ye Wenxin hurriedly got up from her seat, one hand grabbing Madam Yu’s waist and the other catching the daughter about to fall.
The man watching nearby immediately rushed forward to catch the plates.
Seeing this, all those present heaved a sigh of relief.
Only Jin Xiaoqin was dumbfounded, not knowing what kind of disciple she had picked up, who was able to move to Madam Yu’s side in an instant.
Madam Yu, without the slightest care for her own safety, conscientiously checked on her daughter’s condition. After determining her daughter was unhurt, she suddenly remembered the hand on her waist, and her body stiffened.
“Are you alright, Madam?” Ye Wenxin asked with a smile. She acted smoothly, first releasing the little girl, then pulling Madam Yu back to a standing position.
Madam Yu was stunned for a moment and sighed with relief when she saw Ye Wenxin’s face. She returned the smile, saying, “Thank you for the help, young heroine. This Lowly One is fine.”
As she spoke, she gave a slight bow to Ye Wenxin. Her etiquette was less like that of a Manor Lord’s wife, but more like that of an ordinary lady.
At this moment, everyone remembered that rumor, which evoked even more pity.
“Thank you, Sister.” The little girl, who had been very timid just now, also spoke up and smiled at Ye Wenxin, as if she wasn’t afraid of Ye Wenxin at all.
She even took two steps forward out of her own initiative, as if she had noticed some strange attraction coming off Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin, startled, took one step back, then forced out a trace of a smile, casually finding an excuse before returning to sit by Jin Xiaoqin.
“Disciple, how did you run off so quickly just now?” Jin Xiaoqin, recalling Ye Wenxin’s earlier move, increasingly felt that she was actually not as useless as she envisioned.
Ye Wenxin squeezed out a smile, clarifying, “I practiced it, of course. Otherwise, with my personality, I would’ve died a million times over.”
Although Ye Wenxin was just joking, Jin Xiaoqin looked like she had thought of something. She displayed a somewhat approving expression.
“You’re right. Later, I’ll find some manuals that could make you run faster. Practice them well.”
Jin Xiaoqin, as if already thinking Ye Wenxin had no aptitude for training, also gave up and stopped bothering.
Ye Wenxin had merely been cracking a joke, but seeing the joke becoming less and less funny, she could only keep the bitterness to herself.
Even though she had still been the world’s strongest a year ago, she was suddenly reduced to a pathetic little person, who could only run to save her life. How could she not loathe this? How!?
Perhaps because Ye Wenxin’s earlier actions had garnered a good impression with the woman, or Ye Wenxin’s immature face had evoked a sense of camaraderie in the girl, before Ye Wenxin could exchange a few sentences with Jin Xiaoqin, she saw Madam Yu and the little girl approach.
