Chapter 93
Song Si felt a little panicked.
[Ah, I’ve only been in the ’70s for a few days, and I’m already about to become a mom?]
[Is it happening this fast?]
She stared at Lu Yancheng.
Lu Yancheng’s chest felt tight with anticipation.
Was he really going to be a father?
He suddenly picked up Song Si and spun her around in the kitchen, kissed her on the forehead, and said, “I’ll go find a doctor this afternoon to check your pulse.”
Song Si replied, “No need. Just wait two more days, we’ll basically know for sure by then.”
Lu Yancheng nodded. “Okay.”
Even so, he was clearly anxious. He kept staring at her, those deep black eyes burning with intensity.
Song Si felt a little scorched by his gaze.
[The boatman is really this happy?]
She looked down at her own stomach.
[Could there really be a little life in there?]
Lu Yancheng said softly, “Go sit over there, I’ll make some fried eggs.”
Even as he spoke, he carried her over and gently placed her on the heated brick bed.
Song Si sat on the kang and watched Lu Yancheng’s every move.
He skillfully fried the eggs, sprinkled some chopped green onions, then brought over a kang table and placed two bowls of fried eggs on top.
She glanced at them — her bowl had two eggs, his only had one.
Lu Yancheng said, “You eat two.”
Song Si nodded, “Okay.”
He also brought over some steamed rolls.
Song Si took one and started eating her fried eggs.
Just after she finished eating, Grandma Lu, He Yunzhen, Lu Yuanzheng, and Song Jingyan came in.
The four of them saw her sitting there basking in the sun, their gazes falling on her with unusual significance.
Lu Yuanzheng said, “I’ll go kill a chicken.”
Song Jingyan added, “I’ll help.”
He looked at Lu Yancheng and said, “Take good care of Si Si.”
Lu Yancheng nodded, “Got it, big brother.”
Hearing the exchange, Song Si felt a little conflicted.
[This kind of conversation has happened more than once already. Does big brother think I’m still a baby?]
[Always asking the boatman to take care of me, as if I’m delicate and helpless.]
[In my past life, I was a strong, independent woman!]
Just as Song Jingyan was about to leave the yard with Lu Yuanzheng, he paused slightly.
That wasn’t it!
It was because he was afraid the system might harm her!
Si Si didn’t know they could hear her inner thoughts!
Still, even so, Si Si shouldn’t think of herself that way. How could she be as fragile as their third brother?
Grandma Lu sat down next to Song Si. “Si Si, when did your period come last month?”
Song Si replied, “Grandma, the 11th.”
The 11th?
Grandma Lu did the math — it was two days late!
Hearing this, He Yunzhen, Lu Yuanzheng, and Song Jingyan all felt their hearts heat up.
Could it really be true?
Though they were all thinking different things!
He Yunzhen and Lu Yuanzheng were thrilled at the thought of finally having a grandchild.
Song Jingyan, on the other hand, hoped this would make the marriage between his sister and brother-in-law even stronger.
Lu Yuanzheng, overwhelmed with emotion, went off to kill the chicken.
Song Jingyan cheerfully went to help.
He Yunzhen looked at her son. “Yancheng, come here, I need to talk to you.”
Since things had come to this point, there was something she couldn’t put off any longer!
Lu Yancheng glanced at Song Si, then walked over to He Yunzhen.
He Yunzhen also glanced at Song Si, still feeling a little uneasy.
With Yancheng gone, would the system suddenly target Si Si?
After a pause, she added, “It seems a bit chilly today. Yancheng, take off your jacket and put it over Si Si.”
Lu Yancheng: “……”
Chilly today?
Could Mom come up with a better excuse?
He glanced up at the blazing sun overhead but still took off his jacket and placed it over Song Si’s shoulders.
Song Si looked at Lu Yancheng.
Her mother-in-law clearly had something to say to him.
Afraid the system might act up, she obediently pulled the jacket tighter around her, still carrying his scent.
He Yunzhen pulled Lu Yancheng just outside the yard, not too far, and looked at her son with a slightly embarrassed expression. Her voice dropped low. “For the next few days, don’t sleep with Si Si.”
Lu Yancheng paused, looking a little uncomfortable.
His parents had heard Si Si’s thoughts before and knew the two of them weren’t exactly restrained in that regard.
He Yunzhen was worried. “You have to hold back, just in case you hurt Si Si or the baby.”
Lu Yancheng said, “We’re not even sure she’s pregnant yet.”
He Yunzhen couldn’t help scolding him, “Is it really that hard to hold back for a few days?”
Lu Yancheng: “……”
He Yunzhen said, “Alright, go keep her company. I’ll get a doctor to come this afternoon.”
Lu Yancheng replied in a low voice, “No need. She’s not mentally prepared yet. Just give it a few days — the answer will come naturally.”
Though she was anxious, He Yunzhen agreed. “Alright, I understand. But if you go back to the base and get good news, you must call us right away.”
Lu Yancheng nodded, “Okay.”
…
Lunch was braised chicken with flat white noodles.
Lu Yancheng kept picking chicken pieces for Song Si. “Eat more.”
Song Si: “……”
[Is he trying to fatten me up like a pig?]
[Even if I really am pregnant, it’s only a fertilized egg right now — it doesn’t use up that much energy yet!]
Grandma Lu, He Yunzhen, and Lu Yuanzheng all felt a wave of heat in their chests.
Should they just call a doctor already?
So anxious!
Song Jingyan was very pleased with how his brother-in-law’s family was acting.
He looked at Song Si. “You’re really two days late?”
Song Si replied, “Mm.”
Song Jingyan lowered his voice. “I heard Grandma’s been longing for a great-grandchild. Since you’re heading back to the base tomorrow, why not get checked out this afternoon? If it’s confirmed, you’ll know how to take care of yourself better.”
Song Si looked at him and nodded. “Alright then.”
[Ever since I mentioned that dream about the baby, Grandma’s been looking at me like I’m a lightbulb!]
[And now it’s not just Grandma — my in-laws are too!]
She glanced at Grandma Lu, Lu Yuanzheng, and He Yunzhen.
[Three lightbulbs!]
