Chapter 9
“Get out.”
Fu Jinghan’s voice was laced with anger, instantly silencing the two men in the room.
He was already frustrated upon hearing that Ji Xinxin had gone to Four Seasons Garden.
He was afraid that once he returned home, the girl in his house would revert to how she used to be—trying to run away, trying to steal confidential information for another man.
Just thinking about it made his heart ache. He couldn’t face it, so he chose to avoid it by coming here.
What he hadn’t expected was that these two idiots wanted to bring him other women.
“Boss, don’t be mad. We were just trying to cheer you up a bit,” one of them offered.
Seeing that Mo An was still dancing on Fu Jinghan’s last nerve, Lu Yifan quickly gave him a warning look.
“Boss, Mo An didn’t mean anything by it. He just thought you were heartbroken again and wanted to help you out a little.”
After a pause, Lu Yifan added teasingly, “But seriously, the mighty CEO of the Fu Group, drowning his sorrows in booze? That’s a new low.”
“You guys know nothing,” Fu Jinghan snapped.
“I’m willing to get hurt because of Nuannuan. Even if she lied to me, I’m still willing.”
“No—she told me to trust her one more time, and I believe she won’t lie to me again!” Fu Jinghan downed another glass of liquor as he spoke.
“You believe her just like that? After how many times she’s lied to you? For all you know, this could be another vicious trap! You’re going to destroy yourself over her!” Mo An exclaimed, clearly exasperated.
“Shut up!” Fu Jinghan glared at Mo An with a frosty expression. He wouldn’t allow anyone to speak badly of his Nuannuan.
“Okay, okay. I’ll shut up.”
After all, every time this man got hurt by Ji Nuannuan, this was the routine.
He’d come here, down a bunch of alcohol like a broken man, then go back home and let her walk all over him again. They were used to it.
They just couldn’t understand what it was about that woman that Fu Jinghan couldn’t let go of.
Outside the private room, Ji Nuannuan had heard enough. She pushed the door open without hesitation.
The room was dead silent after Fu Jinghan’s earlier outburst. When the door creaked open, Mo An looked up irritably.
He thought it was another drunk who had wandered in by mistake and was about to curse them out—until he saw Ji Nuannuan standing at the doorway.
“You?!” Mo An sounded unsure. The Ji Nuannuan he remembered always had outrageous outfits, but tonight she looked… different?
Hearing Mo An’s voice, both Fu Jinghan and Lu Yifan turned to look.
The moment Fu Jinghan saw her, he set his glass down in a hurry. His expression shifted—nervous, almost flustered.
The mighty CEO of Fu Group only ever looked like this when Ji Nuannuan was around.
“Nuannuan, what are you doing here?” he asked.
“You weren’t picking up your phone, and you didn’t come home. What choice did I have but to come find you?” Ji Nuannuan walked straight up to him and replied.
“They said your sister came to see you today. I thought you wouldn’t want to see me…”
Fu Jinghan’s voice was cold and slightly guilty.
And how could he not feel guilty?
He’d just promised to trust her, yet still had the house staff report her every move to him.
He’d seen her calls come in, but he couldn’t bring himself to answer.
Seeing how drunk he was, Ji Nuannuan got a little angry.
“So she comes to see me, and you decide not to come home?”
“That’s our home. Who cares if she comes or not?”
Fu Jinghan gave a bitter smile. “Every time she visits you, you end up trying even harder to run away. I didn’t know what would happen this time.”
Hearing this, Ji Nuannuan suddenly felt like a complete fool.
After everything she had done to hurt him, how could he possibly trust her so easily?
Her voice softened: “I’m sorry, Fu Jinghan. It’s all my fault.”
“But I didn’t let Ji Xinxin into our house today. I won’t listen to her anymore.”
“If you don’t believe me, you can ask Auntie Zhang and the others. They all saw it.”
Watching her scramble to explain herself, something inside Fu Jinghan melted. The gloom surrounding him vanished.
“No, I said I’d trust you.”
“It’s my fault for doubting you. Nuannuan, forgive me, will you?”
“Then since I came to get you, will you come home with me?” Ji Nuannuan softly held his hand.
“Home,” Fu Jinghan whispered.
He held her hand and walked out of the private room with her.
Back inside, Mo An and Lu Yifan were left stunned.
They stared at the now empty room, completely baffled.
Wasn’t the woman at Fu Jinghan’s house supposedly trying to escape every day?
Then what was this?
Mo An muttered, “Hey, do you think we just got completely ignored?”
Lu Yifan replied, “Seems… like it.”
Mo An rolled his eyes. “Go. Send those girls we got for Fu Jinghan to An Ye instead.”
…
Meanwhile.
On the way back to Four Seasons Garden, Ye Fan watched the couple in the back seat in disbelief.
There was no tension at all between the two—on the contrary, they looked like a couple madly in love.
But when Fu Jinghan had arrived at the bar earlier, he’d been full of anger and gloom.
Now that Ji Nuannuan was here, how had he gone from being a cold iceberg to a complete puppy?
Of course, Fu Jinghan didn’t know his assistant was thinking of him that way.
He was just overwhelmed by one thought: his Nuannuan had come to take him home herself.
And she came after Ji Xinxin had seen her. That had to mean… she really wasn’t lying to him this time?
She was really going to accept his love?
The thought made the smile on Fu Jinghan’s face uncontrollable—his lips kept curling up.
Ji Nuannuan glanced at him leaning back against the seat and quietly rested her head on his chest.
With her ear pressed against him, she could clearly hear the rapid thump of his heartbeat—it was racing, almost as if it was going to leap out of his chest.
Whether it was from the alcohol or because she was so close, the sound made Ji Nuannuan giggle softly to herself.
A bold idea suddenly popped into her head.
She wanted to tease this man who hadn’t answered her calls. She wanted to see his flustered expression.
Just as Fu Jinghan felt the warmth of her body start to pull away, he opened his eyes.
And there was Ji Nuannuan, her eyes shut, slowly leaning toward his lips.
Her face was exquisite—like a work of art—every feature perfectly placed, and her lips… those lips could drive him crazy.
A surge of heat coursed through Fu Jinghan’s body, impossible to control.
Right before Ji Nuannuan’s lips touched his, he suddenly pulled her tightly into his arms, pressing her against him, and seized the kiss himself.
