Chapter 12
“In my heart, he’s not even worth a strand of your hair, not even one tiny body hair.”
“He’s nothing but a piece of crap. Just the sight of him makes me sick. The old Ji Nuannuan is dead. The one standing here now only loves Fu Jinghan.”
What Ji Nuannuan said was certainly exaggerated, but it came straight from her heart.
And for Fu Jinghan, it hit the spot. After all, he never expected Ji Nuannuan to speak that way about Wei Yang.
That man had been the one Ji Nuannuan openly liked before.
So hearing her say all that, Fu Jinghan was inwardly overjoyed—but on the surface, he still wore his cold, aloof expression.
“Mm, I’ll let you go out for now. But…”
“I promise I’ll behave, and come back home early,” Ji Nuannuan quickly added, her mind racing to figure out what else Fu Jinghan might still be worried about.
Just as she was deep in thought, Fu Jinghan spoke in his usual cool tone.
“I’ll have a few people go with you for protection. Don’t take it as me spying on you, alright?”
“Okay, send more if you want,” Ji Nuannuan grinned, completely carefree.
“Mrs. Fu stepping out—it has to be with a proper entourage!”
She looked like she didn’t have a single worry, totally missing the trace of concern in Fu Jinghan’s eyes.
And how could he not worry?
After all, his precious Nuannuan had only just changed. If someone like him managed to brainwash her again, and she reverted back to how she used to be—what then?
After breakfast, Fu Jinghan left for work.
Meanwhile, Ji Nuannuan, having woken up so early, headed back to the bedroom for a nap right after eating.
Perhaps because of the phone call she had taken from Ji Xinxin that morning, Ji Nuannuan had a nightmare about what happened in that warehouse.
In the dream, she saw people prying off her fingernails one by one, then soaking her hands in chili water. The pain was unbearable.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
She cried and cried, then jolted awake in terror.
Now that she could finally go out again, the first thing she had to do was make sure her grandmother was safe. She would never let Ji Xinxin hurt her again.
Thinking of her grandma, Ji Nuannuan picked up her phone and called Fu Jinghan.
Inside the president’s office.
Fu Jinghan was deeply focused on reviewing some documents when his phone rang. He frowned slightly at the interruption, but when he saw it was a call from Ji Nuannuan, the corners of his mouth lifted involuntarily.
“What is it, Nuannuan?”
“Hehe, I miss you.” Ji Nuannuan replied sweetly.
Just then, Ye Fan walked in and saw Fu Jinghan smiling brightly—he was stunned.
Was this really the same Fu Jinghan who usually snapped at people to shut up and get out?
Noticing Ye Fan had entered, Fu Jinghan quickly composed himself, wiped the smile off his face, and returned to his usual cold demeanor, shooting Ye Fan a frosty glance.
Ye Fan saw the phone in Fu Jinghan’s hand and immediately understood—he made a quick exit without even saying goodbye.
Staring at the now-closed door, Fu Jinghan spoke warmly into the phone:
“I miss you too.”
“Hehe, actually… I wanted to ask you for a favor.”
Fu Jinghan’s heart tightened.
“Oh? What is it?”
His voice was still gentle, but inside, he was anxious—Please don’t ask for something I can’t give… please not another wild request…
While he was caught up in his thoughts, Ji Nuannuan continued:
“You know my grandma, right? She’s still living alone in the countryside. I’m getting worried about her.”
“Could you send a few bodyguards to protect her for me?”
So that’s what it was. Thank God, he thought.
As long as it wasn’t divorce—he could handle anything else.
Fu Jinghan asked with concern:
“Did something happen? Is she feeling unwell? Do you want me to bring her here right away?”
“No, no, she’s fine. I just worry about her. I haven’t visited her in so long. I want to go see her in a few days.”
“Alright, I’ll go with you when the time comes.”
Hearing his response made Ji Nuannuan feel incredibly warm. He didn’t just treat her well—he also cared deeply for her family.
“Thank you, Fu Jinghan.”
“Silly girl, don’t thank me.”
“Okay then, I’m getting ready to head out now.”
“Mm. Use the card I left for you by the bed. Spend as much as you want.”
“Then I won’t hold back~”
After hanging up, Fu Jinghan called for Ye Fan.
“Send ten bodyguards to Nuannuan’s grandmother’s house. Keep them there for protection—discreetly.”
At Four Seasons Garden.
Ji Nuannuan also called her grandmother. Ever since marrying Fu Jinghan, she’d been obsessed with escaping and had barely kept in touch.
The moment her grandma answered, tears welled up in Ji Nuannuan’s eyes. Her voice grew choked with emotion.
“Grandma, I miss you so much.”
During the call, she learned her grandmother was doing well. Ji Nuannuan quickly told her she and Fu Jinghan would be visiting soon, and her grandmother was very surprised.
She only knew that Ji Nuannuan had been forced into marriage with a man she didn’t want. She never expected that the two of them would actually come visit her together—but she was delighted and readily agreed.
That afternoon.
Dressed in a loose dress and white sneakers, Ji Nuannuan arrived at the high-end shopping district where she had arranged to meet Ji Xinxin.
Ji Xinxin wasn’t there yet, but Ji Nuannuan didn’t care. She told the bodyguards to keep their distance and started browsing the shops on her own—she had originally planned to shop anyway.
Her gaze casually swept past the storefronts until a particular display caught her eye.
The clothing in the window had a style and elegance that really spoke to her, so she paused and prepared to enter the store for a closer look.
Just as she was about to step through the door, a shrill and snide voice rang out.
“Hey, not just anyone can afford the clothes we sell here.”
Ji Nuannuan turned to see a young woman with a face full of disdain, staring her down with a look of contempt.
“Oh? And how do you know I can’t afford them?” Ji Nuannuan responded with a slight smirk, her tone calm and unbothered.
The woman sneered and said,
“I never said you couldn’t afford them. Just giving you a friendly warning—if you break something in there, you might not be able to pay for it even if you sold everything you own!”
“Besides, just look at the cheap trash you’re wearing—who do you think you’re fooling by walking into our store?”
“This is a premium brand for the upper class! You can’t even fake it right!”
Still smiling, Ji Nuannuan remained perfectly composed and replied,
“Whether or not I can afford it isn’t for you to decide. And I believe a person’s clothing doesn’t determine their worth or status.”
“Take you, for example—you’re dressed to the nines, trying hard to look like someone from the upper class, but in reality?”
“You’re nothing but a ‘low-class’ person who judges others solely based on appearances.”
