Chapter 42 Sister, what do you want?
Who would have thought that while applying the medicine, Cen Bowen suddenly seemed bewitched. He noticed Kang Ying looked much more beautiful than before. Previously, Kang Ying was always carefree around him. But this time, as he applied the ointment, she suddenly showed a shy expression, her cheeks flushed red, and she even tucked her hair behind her ear. At that moment, Cen Bowen suddenly thought Kang Ying was kind of pretty. A strange heat surged inside him, and impulse took over in an instant. What happened next followed naturally. Cen Bowen regretted it deeply.
It was precisely because he wanted to avoid suspicion that he didn’t ask Kang Ying to close the door. Who knew it would turn out so inconvenient!
The crowd was inflamed, and the situation was quickly spiraling out of control. Kang Ying shrank back silently, while Cen Bowen stood there dazed. Neither of them had any idea how to resolve the problem.
Finally, Cen Yue stepped forward. “Take her to my office and wait.”
Cen Bowen looked confused. “Wait… for what?”
“For punishment,” Cen Yue replied.
Rationality returned like a cold splash of water. In the heat of summer, Cen Bowen trembled all over. Just thinking about what was coming made his head clear and no longer dizzy, but his whole body started shaking.
After speaking, Cen Yue shoved a suitcase into Cen Bowen’s hands. “Give this back to your mother.”
Before leaving, he glanced back at Cen Bowen and said coldly, “If you go to my office willingly today, you’ll receive punishment. If you don’t…” Cen Yue didn’t finish the sentence, but Cen Bowen immediately understood.
After the scene ended, Song Yiyi naturally left with Cen Yue.
As soon as they left, Cen Bowen’s mother came back carrying a basin. The crowd at the door slowly dispersed. Some whispered as they left, “You really can’t judge a book by its cover. That guy from Room 201 looked so handsome but played around like that.”
“Yeah, who was that just now?”
“That’s their unit’s political commissar.”
The young front desk man passed by, looking drained and foggy-eyed, muttering nervously. He was very anxious, worried that this incident would ruin his work.
Two people nearby looked at him in shock. “What?! Then that kid’s done for. Getting caught doing that alone is bad enough, but being watched by the commissar the whole time?”
“Exactly. You only have yourself to blame.”
Cen Bowen’s mother brushed past the young man but thought she had missed some excitement, so she quickly grabbed him.
“What happened?” Her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Seeing Cen Bowen’s mother, the young man immediately perked up. “Big sister! Where have you been?”
She looked confused. “I went to take a bath. Why?”
The young man’s gaze was strange, which made Cen Bowen’s mother a bit angry. She had just finished bathing and smelled fragrant all over. But this brat looked younger than her own son.
Just as she was about to get angry, the young man snapped, “Big sister, you owe me an explanation today! Who allowed you to bring so many people upstairs? Our guesthouse clearly forbids guests from bringing visitors. You brought people, that’s bad enough, but in broad daylight, you let them be alone in a room doing that kind of thing! Get out now! Our guesthouse can’t afford your big attitude. Pack up and leave!”
After they left, the commissar wouldn’t see him anymore and might forget about the money he took.
But Cen Bowen’s mother was not one to be messed with. She shook off the young man’s hand and scolded, “Who made that rule? Let them come out and say it! This lousy guesthouse—I wouldn’t even want to stay here if it weren’t close to my son’s unit! Bringing people upstairs is no problem, that’s my own son! You just want money; I’ll throw money at you till you drown!”
She kept ranting, holding the basin in one hand and putting her other hand on her hip, glaring fiercely at everyone around.
The young man at the front desk also got angry. “This is outrageous! Everyone come see! There’s actually a mother who lets her own son cheat behind his fiancée’s back! And she made room for them herself!”
“Cheating is one thing, but cheating in a military district guesthouse? Do you think this is allowed? Doesn’t he care about his future?”
When Cen Bowen’s mother heard the words “cheating,” she looked up and saw Kang Ying still standing in the corridor. At that moment, Cen Bowen and Kang Ying entered the room one after another.
In a flash, with the young man’s words just now, Cen Bowen’s mother immediately put two and two together.
With a bang, she threw down the basin and charged toward the room. The door slammed shut behind her.
The people outside hadn’t left yet and tried to lean against the door to listen.
Soon, loud crashing noises came from inside, mixed with the shouts of a middle-aged woman.
Chaos erupted inside the guesthouse.
Cen Bowen inevitably endured another “battle.” His lips were nearly worn raw from explaining things to his mother and protecting Kang Ying behind him.
Kang Ying, usually tough, could only cry this time.
When Cen Bowen tried to mediate, he was accidentally hit by his mother’s punch.
After they finally sat down and told the whole story, the three of them were silent for a long while.
Then Cen Bowen’s mother suddenly stood up. “I’m going to make a phone call!”
…
Cen Yue drove them back to the compound. Because they had waited so long, Gu Chengze and Song Minghui were already asleep in the back seat.
Song Yiyi had no choice but to sit in the front passenger seat.
Cai Mengjun asked, “Why did it take so long upstairs? Did she cause trouble again?”
Song Yiyi glanced at Cen Yue.
Cen Yue focused on driving, showing no intention of answering.
Song Yiyi thought for a moment and decided to tell the truth.
Cai Mengjun, usually gentle and soft-spoken, couldn’t help raising her voice. “What?!”
Song Yiyi said, “If we hadn’t gone up there, those two might have taken things even further.” Cai Mengjun was so upset her eyes turned red; she reached over and gave Song Minghui a hard pinch. Song Minghui was dreaming and was suddenly jolted awake. He opened his eyes, looking confused at his wife. “Are we home?”
Cai Mengjun’s tears started falling immediately. Seeing her cry, Song Minghui instantly sobered up and sat up straight. He reached to hold Cai Mengjun’s hand, but she shook him off for the first time. “Old Song, you… you’ve really lost your mind!”
Song Minghui was even more bewildered.
As they bickered, Gu Chengze also woke up. He hadn’t been as drunk as Song Minghui and opened his eyes right away, asking, “Yiyi, did the Cen family bully you again?”
Cen Yue spoke calmly, “Roll down the window to get some fresh air, rest a bit, then head back to the military district.”
With Gu Chengze and Song Minghui both awake, Song Yiyi finally told them the full story of what had just happened at the guesthouse.
Song Minghui’s face darkened as if stained by ten years of soot. Gu Chengze clenched his fists tightly until they cracked.
“Yiyi, why didn’t you call out to your big brother just now?”
Song Yiyi comforted him, “Big brother, it’s okay. There were so many people at the guesthouse—they wouldn’t dare bully me.”
Gu Chengze’s eyes grew dark and gloomy.
Cen Yue was driving, his gaze fixed straight ahead as he spoke evenly, “Little sister, what do you want?”
Song Yiyi’s heart skipped a beat. She turned to look at Cen Yue’s sharp, refined profile, trying to read any clues on his face.
“What?” Song Yiyi asked cautiously.
A gust of wind blew, tousling her hair.
