Chapter 16: Deliberately Targeting
When Han Xian suddenly called to ask where he was, Jiang Jingchu sensed something was off. This night owl was usually in bed at this hour; he wouldn’t be checking up on him. Seeing Qin Huan earlier, he understood: she couldn’t find him and had asked Zhou Tiantian to find out his whereabouts.
Han Xian received the message while leisurely riding a cable car with Zhou Tiantian.
“Brother Jing’s tone sounds like a surprise turned into a fright?”
Jiang Jingchu: Traitor.
Han Xian put down his legs.
“…I’m innocent. Zhou Tiantian suddenly wanted to find you. I only found out Qin Huan was with her when I picked her up.”
Han Xian texted then asked Zhou Tiantian,
“What did Qin Huan want from Brother Jing? He seems unhappy.”
Zhou Tiantian, already upset about Jiang Jingchu’s treatment of Qin Huan, glared at Han Xian.
“A sincere apology!”
A sincere apology? Han Xian was even more confused. He knew Jiang Jingchu’s mood swung wildly whenever Qin Huan was involved. Afraid of angering him, he texted:
“Can I make amends? I did get some information.”
After a long wait, Jiang Jingchu replied:
Jiang Jingchu: Tell me.
Han Xian: Qin Huan probably won’t leave this time.
Jiang Jingchu: That’s it?
Han Xian: I also found out about her job. She’s a designer.
Jiang Jingchu: You wasted two minutes.
Han Xian scratched his head. He needed a stronger tactic.
Han Xian: She said she’s single.
Jiang Jingchu’s eyes darkened. The doorbell rang again.
This time, Jiang Jingchu answered, only to find Gao Fei.
“Mr. Jiang, it’s almost time. You haven’t eaten all day. I’ve prepared some…”
Jiang Jingchu interrupted impatiently, frowning.
“Is it just you at the door?”
Gao Fei: …
“No.”
“There’s a waiter.”
Jiang Jingchu scoffed, looking at Gao Fei coldly.
“Are you trying to be funny?”
Gao Fei shook his head.
“No, I brought a waiter to serve you dinner.”
Jiang Jingchu licked his teeth, pushing past Gao Fei to the hallway, looking for Qin Huan. His heart sank. She had so little patience?
He was about to call Han Xian when a cold voice came from behind.
“Mr. Jiang, were you looking for me?”
Qin Huan had waited a long time, then felt unwell and went to the restroom, realizing her period had started early. She didn’t have any sanitary pads and borrowed one from a waiter. Coming out, she saw Jiang Jingchu looking around.
Jiang Jingchu was stunned, then replied calmly,
“You’re mistaken.”
He entered the room. Qin Huan quickly followed.
Gao Fei was watching the waiter serve Jiang Jingchu. Seeing Qin Huan, he froze. She had been at Jiang Corporation, and now she was here? He realized what his boss had meant earlier.
Gao Fei checked the time.
“Mr. Jiang, it’s 40 minutes until 8:00 PM. Please eat. I’ll wait downstairs.”
He nodded at Qin Huan and left.
Jiang Jingchu looked at Qin Huan.
“Who let you in?”
Qin Huan: “You didn’t tell me not to.”
Jiang Jingchu sat on the sofa, legs spread wide.
“Is this your apology?”
Qin Huan took a deep breath.
“Tell me what you want.”
Jiang Jingchu leaned forward, looking at Qin Huan playfully.
“Whatever I want.”
“So, if I want to take advantage of you, I can?”
Qin Huan frowned, stepping back.
“Mr. Jiang, please respect yourself.”
Respect? Jiang Jingchu’s playfulness vanished. He stood up, unbuttoning his robe, and walked to the bedroom.
“I thought you waited outside with sincerity. I was wrong.”
Qin Huan knew he wouldn’t actually do anything. Her patience was wearing thin.
She followed him.
“About your wedding house with Ms. Ji, if you’re unhappy with my design, you can work with Song Yali. Please don’t punish the company.”
Jiang Jingchu didn’t turn around.
“I don’t mix business with personal matters. I’m simply dissatisfied with your design.”
“What’s wrong? I can change it.”
“Everything.”
Jiang Jingchu threw his robe on the bed, turning to look at Qin Huan intently.
“Satisfied? Get out. I need to change.”
Qin Huan was furious. He was deliberately making things difficult for her, enjoying her desperation.
“You’re doing this on purpose! You’re getting revenge for five years ago!”
Jiang Jingchu went to close the door. Qin Huan, still angry, stopped him. The door slammed on her fingers.
The pain made her gasp, clutching her hand.
Jiang Jingchu hadn’t expected this. Hearing her cry out, he turned and saw her pale face. He instinctively grabbed her hand.
“Let me see!”
Qin Huan, still in pain and angry, slapped his hand away.
“No.”
“Qin Huan!”
Jiang Jingchu was truly angry. Seeing her red eyes, he knelt down, scooped her up, and held her.
Qin Huan was startled, struggling.
“What are you doing? Put me down!”
“Jiang Jingchu!”
Jiang Jingchu ignored her, his jaw clenched, holding her tightly as she thrashed in his arms.
