Chapter 17: Pretending to be a Girlfriend
Jiang Jingchu carried Qin Huan out of the bedroom and tossed her onto the sofa.
“What are you yelling about? Do you want the whole world to hear how stupid you are for getting your hand caught in the door?”
Qin Huan struggled to sit up straight, her almond shaped eyes widening.
“You’re the stupid one! If you hadn’t slammed the door, would I have been so frantic that I used my hand to block it?”
Jiang Jingchu just then came over with a first aid kit, looking down at her.
“It doesn’t seem serious; you can still yell.”
Jiang Jingchu squatted down, ignoring Qin Huan’s protests, forcefully grasped her wrist, and gently spread her fingers.
He then saw that four of Qin Huan’s finger joints had varying degrees of purplish-blue bruises.
Her skin was already fair and delicate; a light pinch would redden it for hours. Now, with the injury, it looked even more alarming.
Jiang Jingchu unconsciously frowned, first disinfecting her wounds with iodine, then finding a suitable ointment, squeezing it onto a cotton swab, and gently applying it to her.
Qin Huan’s hand was numb with pain. She only felt a slight coolness spreading over the injured area, feeling a little better, so she let him continue.
After this incident, both of them calmed down.
Qin Huan looked down at Jiang Jingchu. He was shirtless, revealing his strong upper body. His raven-black hair was fluffy and stylish, making his features even more three dimensional and resolute.
Jiang Jingchu had just finished applying the ointment to Qin Huan’s last finger and gently placed her fingers in his palm.
“I know you’re very confident in your profession, and thought I was deliberately making things difficult for you.”
Qin Huan, “Otherwise?”
Jiang Jingchu curled his lips, raising his eyes to meet Qin Huan’s gaze.
“Actually, each of your designs is quite thoughtful, incorporating scenes I had once imagined, making me almost think you still miss our past.”
A hint of panic flashed across Qin Huan’s face.
“How could I, I…”
“I know you wouldn’t!”
Jiang Jingchu coldly interrupted her, sarcastically saying,
“How easily you let go.”
“But have you ever thought that the people who will live in that house in the future are me and Ji Jingya? How do you know what kind of future she and I have envisioned?”
Qin Huan was stunned for a moment, her expression stiffening.
Jiang Jingchu continued,
“In other words, you are not the mistress of this wedding house. The wrong person means everything is wrong.”
Qin Huan’s fingers, resting in Jiang Jingchu’s palm, trembled violently.
From yesterday until now, she had always thought that Jiang Jingchu was taking the opportunity to pick on her.
She had never considered that so much time had passed, and after he got together with Ji Jingya, his living habits and thoughts might have already changed.
And she was still stuck in the past, thinking she knew him well enough.
She was truly a self righteous clown.
After realizing this, Qin Huan’s face turned pale, and an unbearable pain surged in her heart.
She silently withdrew her fingers.
“I was prejudiced and didn’t get the situation right.”
Jiang Jingchu looked at his suddenly empty palm, a hint of loneliness flashing in his heart.
After Qin Huan said this, she stood up.
“If that’s the case, then I really want to sincerely apologize to you. You’re right; it’s my fault.”
“I’m sorry for disturbing you tonight.”
She turned to leave, but heard Jiang Jingchu suddenly speak behind her.
“Let’s go downstairs together. I have something to do.”
He couldn’t bear to watch her leave alone.
Jiang Jingchu said this, and without waiting for her to refuse, he walked straight into the bedroom.
There was a rustling sound from behind, and when Qin Huan saw Jiang Jingchu again, he was already dressed.
He was wearing a black minimalist shirt, his sleeves loosely rolled up, revealing a small section of his strong forearm.
The collar buttons were neatly fastened, unlike his usual casual looseness. His neck was already long, and it didn’t feel constricted at all, but rather added a touch of abstinence.
He lowered his head to fasten his watch and walked to Qin Huan’s side.
“Let’s go.”
He went out first, Qin Huan paused for a moment, and then followed closely behind.
In the elevator, neither of them spoke. Qin Huan looked down at her toes, while Jiang Jingchu’s gaze fell lightly on her.
When they reached the next floor, the elevator “dinged” and slowly opened, and a middle aged couple entered.
It was Liu Qi and his wife, the president of Xinda.
When Liu Qi saw Jiang Jingchu, his eyes darkened, he paused for a second, but his wife suddenly let go of his hand and stepped forward into the elevator.
“Miss Qin?”
Qin Huan hadn’t noticed at first, but when she heard someone call her, she looked up and saw the exquisitely made-up woman in front of her, her eyes flashing with a hint of confusion.
“It’s me. You don’t remember? You saved me at the airport last time.”
Qin Huan searched her memory carefully and finally connected the woman in front of her with a certain incident.
When Qin Huan returned from England, she happened to see a woman having a hypoglycemic episode when she got off the plane.
She was dizzy and unsteady on her feet. Qin Huan happened to notice and quickly helped her to the nearest rest area and gave her some chocolate to replenish her sugar levels, just barely making it until her person came to pick her up.
Cheng Shuyun smiled and explained to Liu Qi, pulling Qin Huan’s hand.
“Remember the Miss Qin who saved me at the airport? That’s her.”
When Liu Qi heard this, a look of understanding flashed in his eyes, and he looked at Qin Huan seriously.
“Miss Qin, thank you so much last time. My wife and I have always wanted to thank you, but unfortunately, we didn’t get your contact information at the time.”
Qin Huan smiled faintly; she didn’t really care.
“It was just a small thing; it wasn’t as exaggerated as this lady said.”
“We really must thank you. Last time, I was in a hurry and only thought about asking your name and forgot to get your contact information. Meeting you today is really fate.”
Cheng Shuyun said, then looked at Jiang Jingchu, who had been observing them beside Qin Huan.
“Is he your…?”
Qin Huan was about to say “client,” when Jiang Jingchu suddenly put his arm around her waist, speaking before her to Cheng Shuyun, nodding.
“Mrs. Liu, hello, I’m Qin Huan’s boyfriend.”
Boyfriend?
Qin Huan was stunned when she heard Jiang Jingchu introduce her like that, and looked up at him suspiciously.
However, Jiang Jingchu didn’t look at her, gently pinching her waist, calmly extending his hand to Liu Qi.
“Mr. Liu, I was planning to disturb you later, but unexpectedly, I met you earlier.”
Liu Qi naturally knew Jiang Jingchu’s purpose, smiled, and shook Jiang Jingchu’s hand.
“Mr. Jiang came all this way personally, which is truly flattering.”
When Qin Huan heard their conversation, she immediately understood. Combining the hints Jiang Jingchu had given her earlier, she guessed that Jiang Jingchu had some cooperation with this Mr. Liu and needed to temporarily use the identity of her boyfriend.
As they spoke, the elevator quickly descended to the first floor, and they all got out together.
Cheng Shuyun didn’t know Jiang Jingchu, and thought he was an ordinary businessman. She linked arms with Qin Huan and whispered in her ear.
“You have good taste. Your boyfriend is handsome and has excellent temperament.”
Qin Huan smiled, neither admitting nor denying it.
“Mrs. Liu is fortunate. Your husband is busy with work, but he still takes the time to accompany you on vacation.”
The two women looked at each other and then turned to look at the two men who were slightly behind.
“Hurry up, or we’ll miss the meteor shower.”
The four of them agreed to watch the meteor shower together.
They took two cars to the cable car station.
After Jiang Jingchu and Qin Huan were alone, Jiang Jingchu explained to Qin Huan.
“Can you stay and help me? Pretend to be my girlfriend for two days. I have a project to discuss with Liu Qi, and I need an opportunity.”
